PS4 vs Xbox One in the US – VGChartz Gap Charts – November 2018 Update

In November 2018 the gap in the US between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One grew in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 sold 164,596 more units than the Xbox One in the last month. The PlayStation 4 also sold 838,305 more units in the last year. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 3.79 million units.

The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Xbox One launched on November 22, 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 27.51 Million units, while the Xbox One has sold 23.71 million units.

The most interesting thing here is that they imply that over half of all Xboxes are sold in the USA but only about a Third of Playstation and yet it's still leading in the states.

Sony will remain on top next gen and this shows why. The biggest overarching factor for PS4s success is its appeal worldwide.

How does Microsoft increase interest outside of the United States?

Eonjay microsoft are aware of this and they know outside of the USA and UK it will be hard to catch up to Sony and there best bet is the pc. This is why we now see play anywhere games and gamepass on pc.

Microsoft know they don't have to sell the most consoles to make £ they need to offer the games across both platforms if they do that they don't have to look at both Sony or Nintendo.

I think Microsoft makes more money from selling more consoles than selling their games on windows. They get 3rd party fees on games and xbox live subs. Games like COD, Madden, 2k nba sell millions every year, but has any game MS released on pc recently sold even 1 million? Pc gamers actually petitioned to have games not be released on GFLW ( I don't think they ever did for any other service)

Not that i dont agree with you but, Last generation there were doom and gloom articles for PlayStation because it was 2 million behind WORLDWIDE, and the 2 million units were due to a 1 year headstart of xbox. 2 million was a big deal back then.

So the fact that Sony launched the ps3 at a huge price point and didn't have a lot of games at the start had nothing to do with it? Xbox 360 launched and was successful because it innovated and brought new ideas to the console market. Fanboys always want to point to the one year head start. When it was so much more than that.

No, when PS3 was launched 360 had sold exactely 2 million units in the prior year. Despite PS3 outselling the 360 in most months MS would make up some of the difference during holiday months by effective use of bundles. So yeah the difference was the same as when PS3 entered the fray, until PS3 slowly pulled ahead.

Also, not that i disagree but which innovation are you refering to? Live? Also, im not even getting into the affect of the RROD.

I think approaching 30 mil in the US is pretty good after 5 years if you take into account that it doesn't have a new movie format pushing it and that it was released as we were coming out of a depression and along side competition. Comparing it to say PS2, where that machine released during a better economy , directly after a generation Sony utterly dominated and featuring a DVD DRIVE (many did buy it for that feature) it is going pretty well to have sold half... And it's still going . I would bet we will see 40 mil sold in the US by the end of the gen .

Hmm, I'm no surprised. I'm an Xbox owner in Lebanon. Which is a country where people barely know it. Everyone refers to consoles as Playstation xD
Nobody even buys em for exclusives. They only buy the console for fifa or cod thinking it's the only console in the country. I'm not surprised tbh cause ps2 has been their childhood.

Same here in nigeria, its ps4 for Fifa and COD(not the new one), very very few play games like persona, spiderman and the likes.
