Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force is a traditional RPG story that feels right in line with Hyperdimension Neptunia, mainly because it is from the same developers. While it is a quality game, it is a two year old port of a PS4 game itself a port of a two year prior PS3 game, so it shows it’s age. The portability of the Switch allows some of the deeper elements that hindered it (long story sections, very involved character stat modifications) more manageable and therefore worth the unfortunate “Switch Tax.”
A number of new deals are up and running on the North American Switch eShop. These include Disc Jam, Double Dragon & Kunio-kun: Retro Brawler Bundle, Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force, The Missing: JJ Macfield and the Island of Memories, and more.
The Humble Idea Factory Bundle is out now. It features games like Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart (Neptunia), Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force Complete Deluxe Set, Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls, and more.
Idea Factory International announced Limited Run Games will publish a physical release for Fencer F: Advent Dark Force on Nintendo Switch.
I've quite enjoyed this on PS4, love the smartass banter between the main guy and the fairy. I picked it up for dirt cheap during a sale. I never finished it and honestly am not in front of a TV much anymore, so the portability of this Switch version seemed tempting. I saw that $39.99 price tag though and was turned off, because it's an old game and I do own it already.
I will bring to attention that it's currently on a 20% launch sale though for $31.99 on the eShop, so people who haven't played it may be interested. That's closer to the price that I anticipated for it, around $19.99-29.99. I'll probably still wait for a deeper sale later on bc I have enough to play right now. Now is a good time to pick it up though if you're new to it and love JRPGs. It's a pretty good one.
*edit- sorry, the sale is mentioned in the review. Good review though, it echoes my thoughts. Most oldschool JRPG fans don't mind a bit of a grind, especially now that it's portable and good for pick-up-and-play, wherever you're at.
