Today the company’s CEO seems to have decided what the final look of the platform will be.
Ok this just got really interesting, that design looks amazing, I'm not even going to lie.... wow
I mean... it's a neat mock-up but they couldn't even pencil in where they think the ports and connections are going to be? External power brick perhaps?
Are you kidding? It looks like it was designed by the same asshole that designs those triple-decker wings for import cars.
Are you referring to rice burners?
@KickSpinFilter, Well, some people refer to imports with that name, but having built pretty much everything automotive except a street rod or a motorcycle, I prefer to just leave it at import since I like just about all types of vehicles. But that said, anything can be taken too far and some of the wings and body kits that were designed at the height of the import craze were beyond stupid, but I have seen things just as ugly for Mustangs and similar domestic cars.
Who knows people bought in to the DXracer gaming chairs fad, and the ergonomics is not even really design for long hours, and its just fancier office chair.
@jelloaceomega, I actually own a DXRacer chair, but it's a Classic Series, which is an actual desk chair and not one of the Sparco knock-offs mounted on casters.
You guys are giving way too much attention to what could come out like the Ouya.
Fail or succeed, I think most people are just happy that we might see the emergence of a fourth alternative. Fanboys on the other hand...
It's definitely going to fail. All it has going for it is apparently power. It won't have much first party support, and it won't be cheap.
@King_Noctis Adding yet another platform isn't really beneficial. If the big developers really do support it then that just makes games even more expensive to produce, every platform added increases the costs, and we know who ends up paying for that. If a new platform could broaden the market so that they could sell more then those costs would be covered, but I doubt that adding yet another platform is going to do that in any meaningful way, if it sells it's just going to sell to the same group of people that already play on one or more of the other platforms.
That just makes the failure all the more impressive. Although, I'm still not sure what this "console" is supposed to be. Would be interesting if they actually make it into a viable, competitive console. But knowing most things like this with such ambition, it'll be too niche, and likely not go anywhere. If it ends up being like the PC-Engine was though, it could be a nice little system with some decent support you don't see elsewhere, but so far, this dev hasn't seem to really be in tune with how to make a consumer level product that can be mainstream enough to be successful.
That box is gonna need one hell of a secret sauce to e even get mediocre sales once it hits the market but I am intrigued. I wish them success and in the meantime I'll sit back pull out a long chair and a cold one.
Remember Steam Machines, it is going to go that route.
Ya crazy?! Put that glue down ...
I like the design, looks cool.
I think it looks cheesy. But more importantly, this is all just marketing, you don't design the case until you know what's going in it.
But how.. When xbox X dev kits were shown people freaked seeing the LED screen on front lol. Now its a problem because its not from a main company
That is a far better design than the other one. But, I'm still skeptical about the console overall.
Pretty sleek looking machine. Love that the front of the unit is a screen that displays what you are currently doing.
What is the official currency of Mad Box - Madbux?
project cars is not really something that will attract the masses. just sayin‘
Console is due in three years. There's time
Time, but money to create the games? Both Project car games were kickstarter projects. They didn't sell enough to really suggest they'd be able to create more studios. Even if they make an impressive game outside PC, it's not going to drive console sales. Unless they have some big investment partners, it won't get many games. This would be more interesting if a software publisher partnered with a hardware maker to release a console. Kind of like the PC-Engine, because then you have both sides of the coin covered.
If you actually look at the tweet there is another image that shows different games displayed I think they idea is that the front display can change based on certain variables "app, game. box orientation". So the Project Cars image is not static and would only show up if you were playing that game.
Looks cool, but I will wait until I see the games.
I hope Sony isn't going all in on VR. Just may meet their match here. Console looks sick.
Sony is totally capable of going all in on VR and having it not affect what they are already doung that makes them successful. And as for meeting their match? Madbox is unproven, has no console track record, three big companies competing against it. NO NAME RECOGNITION amongst average and casual gamers. Heck, I've been playing games since 1986 consistently through every generation cycle and I still don't know basically squat about this company other than Project Cars. I think SONY will be just fine.
The PS VR was trash. It flopped.
That's what I was thinking no credibility here, a company that few years ago needed croud funding for Project Cars, now all of the sudden they are experts in console gaming, what about online features, exclusive content, controller, os? That guy Ian is steering SMS to rock bottom, I mean from croud funding and now making your own console? And let's not forget how bugging PC was. And now he's telling me\us gamers buy my console, in what dream does he live in, If that was sega coming back then yea but this hell no
@fyiir23 It didnt flop, it ddnt set the world on fire either but it exceeded expectations and is outselling other VR units by a healthy margin. I personally did not enjoy it very much. Looking forward to PSVR 2, i just hope it isnt a pack-in and jacks up the price of ps5
So easy to bait you. He was just looking for a way to bash Sony.
This console is going to flop hard, that is if it ever even gets off the ground.
lol that's what you wish
I bet you pick who will win a football game by which uniform looks best? Am I right? Look here at the shiny little thing kind of logic. "ooohh sooo pretty, lights..."
I'm lost.. no wonder you're gumby, he was an idiot. You're speaking on choosing a winner. If Sony goes all in on VR with the ps5. It'll be a mistake.
fyiir23 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA - I hope MS will release and support some decent exclusives next gen. And that's one trashy looking console, nothing timeless about the design - looks cheap and will age horribly.
How the console looks is pointless. PS2 wasn't exactly all that pretty, but it's the highest selling console of all time.
Eh? Match? This is ONE game developer, who owns ONE game IP and who's trying to enter into the console market. They can't even compete with the big 3 in the console space, let alone steam/gog/epic. Sony have the resources for R&D on hardware, multiple dedicated 1st party VR teams for software, and an established biggest consumer budget friendly VR ecosystem currently among all platforms. The only thing Sony should NOT be doing is to show PSVR2 games during their PS5 reveal (like Microsoft did with TV TV TV) and hold a separate conference for that or maybe a direct to video presentation, because of bad PR.
So I haven't done any research, but will this be able to play PC games by chance? If so, technically it could play Microsoft console exclusives correct?
I don't think so. It's supposed to be a console just as much as PS and Xbox is.
Microsoft would want their software to sell xbox or no xbox I think but we'll see assuming it's a steam box type thing
You might be on to something there🤔
I believe so. They say it's going to run equivalent to a very fast pc. Supporting most current and upcoming VR headsets.
That's interesting. If it is basically a new take on the steam box (ie. a console that runs pc games) then it's basically able to match the Xbox for games right out of the gate lol. I'll stick with my PlayStation and Nintendo consoles regardless.
Well then you may as well just go build a pc and play it safe .
Yeah, It is a PC on a console-ish case.
It looks fine, but those cube shaped designs they posted were gorgeous.
By the time it comes out its going to be old news, hype is going to die out. Should of started talking about it a year or so before release
There are very few developers I would trust making a console, Project Cars was mediocre why would a console be any different?
That actually looks pretty sexy! 🤤 😋
So, they made their console, that will play fast car games, look like a fast car?
Now the second and third main issues: What are the specs, and what will the controller look like? Controller is key.
So, the first issue was what it looked like? Shouldn't that be the last issue anybody should care about? It is like jingling a key above a baby to me. It serves no purpose other than to distract. He says "slightly amended over time" No, what you see now will only have a faint resemblance to what it will be when they start realizing issues of the design will have to costs, part failure rates and other areas like cooling/heat displacement &overall design effectiveness, I can tell you now the display, that appears to take up the whole front of the console, will not be there when/if the product is released. Edit: "If the product is released"
They just showed the design. Hold your horses
I like it a lot, looking forward to what they offer games wise.
If they can bring in some exclusives, have a decent price, this thing can really take on Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.
Looks kinda dumb IMO. I guess it goes along with it's ridiculous sounding name.
The Madbox looks nice and sleek with that digi front. I just hope they don't go out like steambox. I remember the hype for that and then nothing!
Isn't this what everyone wanted a third box that does the same thing as the other 2 just with different games I don't get the hate.
Nintendo should have released something like this instead of the switch.
Why? Most people I've seen comment say their games are too kiddie for them anyways. So what difference would it make. You've got this, PC, Sony, and Microsoft. So your demographic is covered.
