Fortnite may be taking over the world, but nothing comes close to the formative significance of Epic Games' Xbox 360 debut.
Gears's cover mechanics and Horde mode were the most copied idea from last gen. I wonder if Epic will ever consider making a single player game ever again.
"but nothing comes close to the formative significance of Epic Games' Xbox 360 debut." Really? Nothing comes close? C'mon, who writes these articles every day that put a positive spin on anything and everything Xbox.
You don't think Gears 1 was a positive?
Is everything negative?
Yet you continue to read them and try and to find a way to put a negative spin on anything and everything Xbox.
@timotim Gears is a great franchise and a Gears 1 it's an awesome game, but from there to actually say that NOTHING comes close to it is a completely different thing
So you only want negative articles ?
I think there were certainly things that came close, or even surpassed it. COD comes to mind. Super Mario Bros 2 and 3. Zork(original). Halo. But Gears of War certainly had a major impact on the direction games went last gen, and that effect still persists to this day.
Gears 1 and Marcus' chainsaw lancer was a pop culture phenomenon.
you say that as if Gears was the first game to have such a cover mechanics.
Killswitch says hi
GOW was a blast. I didnt like the last fight with Raam though. I would have thought there would be tons of dead birds with how much lead was thrown.
Classic! Lots of devs drew inspiration from it and it defined a whole new type of shooter.
Still remember its first trailer. That's when I decided to buy a console.
Please correct error in headline, should read: "Developers look back on Gears of War, the shooter that kickstarted a bold, new era of cookie cutter sequels and copycats."
Gears of war started amazing! The first two games where awesome! The third was deacent and the judgement and Gears 4 sucked! I hope they go back to its roots with the fifth, but ill guess they doing it gaas style!
This game was incredible. It has also aged rather well. People forget too, that Gears of War had one foot firmly in the 'horror' genre with this game, parts of Gears of War were legitimately creepy.
