I'll give credit where credit is due and most certainly geow2 has some of the best art direction going for it. But if you are going to tell me that you will encounter more than 5-7 enemies per firefight engaging you... i will heartily disagree. What they were able to push out with the Unreal 3 middleware engine is amazing. But one thing this engine does not seem to be able to handle this gen (maybe in unreal 4) is supporting more than 8-10 AI threads per any given encounter and that includes ur teammates. But enough with that.

I actually liked the trailer, looked really nice. It was hectic, and delivered the message. I'm not really familiar with the story about Gears, but it started to sound as if this was a trailer for R2. But I'm still leaning towards the Helghan trailer, way more badass.

I didn't like the dialogue in the Gears trailer though. Just sounds way too corny "HUMANITY FACES EXTINCTION, WE MUST END THIS WAR"... Sounded too robotic compared to "Our guns never tire, and we have beaten back the foe, sent them runnin"

..yeah and..where's the mo-cap in this game??? a true Next-Gen game should have mo-cap, in fact ALL games should have that by now. Watch Markus(GeOW2) talking next to Hale(R2) and you will see what I'm referring to.

if you are talking about facial animation...Epic outsources that, but so does Insomniac...it takes a pot of cash for the equipment to do it...and to my knowledge the only games where the developers have done it in house was Ninja Theory for Heavenly Sword, Kojima Productions for MGS4, and Guerilla Games for Killzone 2 (of which is the same SCE owned equipment used for HS)...

all 3 of those games also did all the character animation from the actual voice actors (MGS4 for the original japanese actors), which drastically helps how believable a 'fake' game character comes off...Insomniac played around with some of that this time around with Hale, but it was all done at a seperate studio with limited time, so its not going to be as ridiculous as MGS4 or HS in terms of acting...Epic did the same thing though...Gears 1 recieved pretty normal complaints about poor voice acting and relatively weak cut scene animation, as it wasn't correctly mo-capped...same with R1...but facial syncing, as in what HS and Heavy Rain do so well, neither game uses the tech to its fullest...its simply too time consuming and expensive...

seriously, most people who clicked on this article want to talk about Gears 2 and not R2. Take it to the R2 threads or the open zone.

fanboys think if you repeat a lie a thousand times then people will believe it. fact is that R2 doesn't hold a candle to Gears 2 and most of the free world agrees. it's only the plethora of sony fanboys on N4G with no games to play on their glorified Bluray players that feel the need to gang up and and try to convince people otherwise. listen, if you love R2 then go watch and comment on the numerous R2 trailers. no one here cares.

but I'm thinking R2 will still rock harder this X-mas. I will definitely buy Gears 2, and after I finish Gears 2 most of my time will be spent on R2 and LBP and maybe that Zombie game that's coming out later in November for the rest of the year. Honestly, this year has been all about Sony. It's looking like 2009 will be all about Sony also....

That's because R1 was an average game while GeOW was GOTY material, so when you have an outstanding game like GeOW why would they make big changes on the sequel. With Resistance franchise they need it to make the sequel better because the first one was crap.

Try comparing textures, lighting + animations. The enemies in Resistance 2 look like cardboard cut-outs compared to the ones you face in Gears 2. Also, notice how stiff the enemies in both Resistance 1 and 2 move. It looks like crap compared to Gears 2.

So are you saying that what was once good can't become better? What's so bad about change? I agree with what you said about R1 but you've got to acknowledge that it was indeed a launch title and from what I remember the 360 didn't really have any good launch titles. R1 was Insomniac's first title on the PS3 and this was also a time when making games on the PS3 was still confusing.

Here we are on the 2ND year and they've already accomplished so much (tons of content and replayability). Of course, with this being the Xbox's 3RD year, I didn't really see many changes between Gears 1 and Gears 2. I don't know which developer said this, but when you're making a sequel, you've gotta reinvent it a little to make it stand out. R2 has accomplished everything 360 man has said and I disagree with the gravity comment (doubt he's even played the beta).

Gears did add some new things to the game but to me, it'll just feel like the playing the first one. Pretty much the same multiplayer, same ending (we all know how that turned out), and plenty multiplayer glitches (they'll obviously have to fix those).

But Halo is a FPS. AI is not required for the to run for cover but to just run at you headlessly until you kill em all. Resistance 2 is finally catching up to where Halo 3 left us off at. Resistance 2 finally went intergalactic and its still can't top the Epicness of Halo 3. In Gears if 10 locust was to rush your @ss you would be dead. You see how long it takes to kill one right? Looking at the clips for Resistance the AI looks plain and simple. The have no major programing but to fire and strafe left to right. The visuals still looks like Sh!t for the Chimera. Skinny @ss Violators from spawn looking models with minimal details whatsoever.They try to make the bosses look like a brumak with the Multiple eyes and what not and stole the bubble shield from Halo lol! Resistance will be a good game but its not fuking with Gear 2 sorry. Matter of fact COD4 still looks better than Resistance 2 by a landslide and unlike Halo,Resistance and Gears its runs in Hi-Res without fram drop (atleast on 360).

BTW AS far as resistance 2 having 60 players with no lag.....Puhleeze.

No FPS or TPS has control lag online so please stop gettin it twisted.Its always bullet lag and Resistance 1 had it and this is no different. UT3 on PS3 had this sh!t worst than Gears did. Go head and Take my Bubble like this sight normally does when people voice they opinion. It won't matter to me i have a AAA title to play until Resident Evil 5 drops.
