PlayStation VR is a Must-Own Console for 2019 - WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Todd Eggleston: "We talk constantly about how the current generation consoles don’t feel “next gen” enough, that we are getting the same experiences that we did with the PS3 and Xbox 360, just with prettier graphics, but now developers are figuring out the best ways to maximize VR potential. And because of this, PlayStation VR quietly became the best console of 2018 and a must-own for 2019."

Just got the Astro Bot and Moss bundle for Christmas. Can't wait to set it up and check it out when I get home. For now, just looking at the box is making me smile...

NecrumOddBoy2334d ago

You have two amazing games that are perfect for VR newbies. You will be in love soon my friend.

nowitzki20042333d ago

Stop with comments like this.. Making me want to go get a headset now smdh /s

bouzebbal2333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

I went to a tech shop 2 days ago to get something completely different and I saw they had astrobot demo.. I have never seen something like it before, so I left the shop with psvr as well.. I was so wow'ed by the immersion, comfort and precision of gameplay.
Came home, downloaded all psvr stuff I got through ps+ including demos... I tried Moss the day after, I was soooooo amazed by that game.. Tech is really on point I didn't know this cheap priced headset was capable of wowing a gamer veteran like myself.. Felt like the first time I saw sonic 1 or zelda 64 running... Cannot describe the feeling but it was the exact same!!!!!

Please guys, if u know some great software, I'm listening.

Marcello2334d ago

Cant play Astro as i have a Rift but i do have Moss & its just wonderful. You fall in love with the mouse the instant you see her in VR. VR is totally amazing, cant understand all the negative comments about it. Not a single day has passed that i havent played in VR since i bought the Rift last year.

ILostMyMind2333d ago

Negative comments are usually from people who have never played games in VR.

sprinterboy2333d ago

Agreed and it's not just the games, I use it alot on YouTube vr videos also, highly recommend the godzilla short story. My friends just done his 300th skydive and he's done his last one in 4kvr, he said the file size is massive lol

bouzebbal2333d ago

I was actually one of these, until I tried it... I didn't think it had killer apps, AAA titles and support in general...

We'll I can now tell that every demo/game I tried is a killer app.. The immersion in itself is a killer app.. Moss, Astrobot are icing on the cake.

lptmg2334d ago

Get ready for Astro Bot. It's a game changer.

sprinterboy2333d ago

Start with the vr worlds demos first to help you adjust. I personally started with the the deep underwater demo, just stand up look around to start with plus it's a great little 30mins experience. Good luck with resident evil, I've yet to finish it it in vr (so scary)

derek2333d ago

Is it really that good and scary? I'm so tempted to get it.

FyBy2333d ago

Get beat saber and I expect you to die. Great vr games too !

AshleeEmerson2333d ago

Both are great games but play Moss first... There's no going back after you've played Astro Bot. It IS INCREDIBLE!

porkChop2334d ago

It's not a console, it's an accessory or a companion device.

ApocalypseShadow2334d ago (Edited 2334d ago )

You're right. More of a platform for now since you need a PS4 to use it. But...

IT'S SOOOOO GOOD! LOL!

Last night I was going to play an hour or so of Skyrim but instead, went ahead and bought Gun Club. "I'll just play for an hour to get a feel for it, then go to sleep."

6:30AM rolls around. I was like, "D@mn this is fun!" I love shooting gallery games and just recently bought In Death and the also fun Space Pirate Trainer. Still wish the developers of Lethal would have added more content to it. But Gun Club fits the bill.

Especially with the manual loading of guns. Which is why I liked that cheap $10 Dark Legion. Only negative being two handed weapons. Those leds were wearing on me. I like the moves controllers but boy when it works against you, it works against you unless you raise the camera.

Anyway, PSVR keeps winning me over with every new, good release that proves VR is not a gimmick. Can't wait for Ace Combat 7 and Sairento in Jan and Feb. 2019 is going to start strong. I don't mind the PC ports as long as they keep porting the good ones.

porkChop2334d ago

Oh I don't doubt that it's good, there's some really great VR experiences coming out these days.

boing12333d ago

Get Beat Saber. This is the game to play in VR.

derek2333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

Calling it just an accessory doesn't quite accurately reflect what vr is. It's more like a console in that its games are wholly unique to it.

porkChop2333d ago

It plays PS4 games through a PS4. It's entirely reliant on a PS4, no different from the PS Move. I'm not saying PSVR is bad or anything, it just isn't a console.

rainslacker2333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

It's a platform for use on ps4. An accessory suggest that it's more optional to use, whereas a platform is unique to its own software.

SCW19822334d ago

Got the Moss and Astro Bot bundle for Christmas. Best word to describe them is Magical. Haven’t felt this way since first seeing MARIO in 3D on the N64. This really is the future

lptmg2334d ago

Astro Bot, in my opinion, is the true game of the year for 2018. It's just sad that not a lot of people will experience it. That game is the future before our eyes.

ILostMyMind2333d ago

I thought there was an award for VR games.

porkChop2334d ago

Is Moss really that good? I've thought about getting it for my Oculus Rift. I thought it looked alright but never paid much attention. I've heard some good things though.

NecrumOddBoy2333d ago

Yes, it's like Uncharted and Zelda rolled up in a Studio Ghibli coating and action puzzle platformer whimsical wonder. Game is shorter, being around 4 hours but has good trophy/achievement replay and it's just so good. I have the platinum trophy for PS4 and it's a 9/10 easily.

porkChop2333d ago

Nice, I'll have to pick it up sometime.

LamerTamer2333d ago

It depends on what you like but it is a decent puzzler/platformer. The biggest knock on it is that it was a bit short in my opinion. I got over 10 hours out of it though because I would spend time to just look around at the beautiful environments. I suppose you could blast through it in 4 hours if you just rush.

sprinterboy2333d ago

Yep it's hard to describe your 1st experience in vr. Mine was deep sea demo, I was like wtf (kicked my chin off the coffee table at the shark bit lol)
Plus it gave my mum a experience with swimming with dolphins on YouTube in vr, she's scared of swimming but loves dolphins so my mum loved it also.
Resident evil is on another level from immersion perspective

Leeroyw2333d ago

When friends come around they don't want to play God of war, blackout or spiderman. (all great games).

They want to play VR. And they always are left amazed.

This was how it was when I showed people F Zero and Super Mario World on my snes in 1992.

kayoss2333d ago

This is true. My friends always ask me to bring my PS4 and VR. They love to watch people play. It’s the reaction they witness that is very entertaining. I’m Not saying the games are not entertaining.

ILostMyMind2333d ago (Edited 2333d ago )

"... the current generation consoles don’t feel “next gen” enough, we are getting the same experiences that we did with the PS360, with prettier graphics..."

And that is what we will get in the next generation as well. Unless we can download the games directly into our minds.

But yes, the PSVR is a very good start.

VR Games Showcase | 11 March 2025

Tune into VR Games Showcase for the latest announcements and updates on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR2, and PC VR titles coming in 2025.

With Hitman: World of Assassination on PS VR2, Flat2VR Studios, Slender VR and much more confirmed for the show, this is something you won't want to miss.

This will be a roughly 35 minute show.

Babadook770d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Robo Quest VR looks pretty slick with that fast gunplay.

Shadowgate VR looks good too, perhaps in the vein of elder scrolls.

thorstein70d ago

Shadowgate VR. Thought it might be connected to the old point and click game. But it still looks good.

darklaw69d ago

y'know, VR needs something can can only be achieved while in VR. Immersion isn't enough, it has to have a hook that is so cool that you would want to own one. Having the same games you could play on console doesnt warrant a purchase.

Babadook768d ago

Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village and Gran Turismo 7 alone make it worth it for me. The difference VR makes is so large it more than doubles the enjoyment of these types of quality VR ports. So I disagree. I would love a future where all great 2d games got some kind of a hybrid port to VR.

PSVR2, PCVR, and Quest VR Are About to Have Some of Their Best Months for Games

Virtual Reality (VR) gamers will be eating well the next few months with what seems like solid titles releasing from now until December.

DaReapa217d ago (Edited 217d ago )

Has Hitman: World Of Assassination been confirmed for PCVR? If not, then this article is seriously misleading.

CrimsonIdol217d ago

It's confirmed on Steam VR yes. It's right there on the store page.

bigfish217d ago (Edited 217d ago )

I’ll have to put the dual sense down and pick up metro and alien vr to see me out till the end of the year. Good to see companies supporting psvr 2 .

Babadook7217d ago

Looks like a tremendous few months coming up. I won't be able to keep up with these.

UltimateOwnage217d ago

VR is really starting to flesh out recently. The hardware is finally getting accessible and with the quality it takes to deliver a compelling and immersive experience. Good times ahead. I hope Flat2VR Studios can bridge the gap with some excellent conversions as the industry matures.
