Top ten most disappointing games of 2018. Okay, top twelve.

This is never a fun list to make, because these are all games I wanted to like.  Without exception, they are games I was looking forward to playing. What went wrong?  My expectations, the games themselves, or — most likely — some combination of the two?  This year’s list actually goes up to twelve because …

I wasn't disappointed with Fallout 76 because it turned out exactly how I expected it to. Just Cause 4 wasn't a disappointment either because we all knew it was going to be more of the same, the series got stale after the 2nd game.

coolbeans2359d ago

I don't know about Just Cause 4. That big trailer showcasing the tornado had me convinced they would also polish up the structure.

SegaGamer2359d ago

I haven't gotten around to playing Just Cause 4 yet, is the Tornado any good?

coolbeans2359d ago

I wouldn't know. I haven't played yet either. :P

Just cause 4 has some improvements to the playground of chaos structure the games have been building on but also takes some pretty big steps backwards in fidelity and sandbox style gameplay. No more unlimited explosives ( remote ones) no more grenades no more pistols (or other 2 handed). The d-pad now selects your grapple loadout rather than your weapon so holding the y or triangle button is now how you swap between your 2 weapons.

Graphics have taken a big hit. The water I could have forgiven if it wasnt for the massive lod issues. Trees and foliage pop in constantly and then for some reason dissapear again before reapearing one last time. There are other graphical bugs too like screen door textures. JC3 had perfect LOD.

Im hoping they will somehow fix everything but I doubt it. This is Square Enix who abandons games for new games.

The writing on this website and the random capitalized letters. Gross.

Sgt_Slaughter2359d ago

You put Ultimate at No. 2... because you had to work to unlock characters?

Immediately makes this website look like a joke. Sorry that progression is a bad thing now, in the journalist's eyes.

roadkillers2359d ago

That’s why I am excited to play the new Smash Bros. I hope the new Mortal Kombat uses the Krypt unlock system. What’s the point of playing a fighting game solo if there are no unlocks?

Sgt_Slaughter2359d ago

The person who did this list must have forgotten every Smash game before Smash Wii U. Unlocks and challenges to get characters were part of the excitement, getting Mewtwo in Melee was that last reward for your hard work (or leaving the console on for a long time overnight).

pietro12122359d ago

Having to unlock the fighters was a highlight for me. I muss having that feature in fighting games (games in general).

roadkillers2359d ago

Yeah, it's definitely not just you.

Grand Theft Auto: playing one part of the city for 50 hours and memorizing every area of that location. Then the bridge gets fixed and it's like a new addition to the game.

Twisted Metal: play the game and beat it in certain ways unlockable you a battle pretty similar to Smash Bros where you have to beat the guy to unlock.

Mortal Kombat: Unlocks in the krypton when you gain enough monies. The unlocks are random from AA to ZZ

Pokemon: Tell me you were not like holy **** when you beat Gold/Silver only to find out that was just half the game...

I guess the last one was just progression, but..

gangsta_red2359d ago

I remember when unlocking characters in fighting games was an actual thing. Now it's grinding for points and paying for extra characters.

yoshatabi2358d ago

I played ultimate and thought it was boring a'f tbh. To each their own though.

"It’s called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate because Super Smash Bros. How Do I Unlock More Characters Because I’m Sick of Playing Kirby, Which Is Something I Never Thought I’d Say was too long to fit on the Nintendo store page."

8 characters are available from the start, so you don't have to play as just Kirby. Also, characters unlock pretty quickly. I unlocked my first character in the first 10 minutes.

yoshatabi2358d ago

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the spirits mode. You start off playing as Kirby in that game mode.

King_Noctis2358d ago

Which you can also quickly unlock other characters in that mode, with Mario being the quick second unlock if I remember right.

pietro12122358d ago

Except you don't have to pay that mode to unlock the roster.

wonderfulmonkeyman2358d ago (Edited 2358d ago )

Even then his excuse is about as solid as wet tissue paper.
Especially when just playing a single round of 1-stock mode vs Smash, suiciding, winning the unlock battle, then home-screen-shut-downing the system on the "joins the battle!" screen makes unlocking them all take less than a couple of hours.
