Players Are Getting Banned for Modding Fallout 76

Fallout 76 players have started getting banned from playing the game due to using mods. While it was always clear that modding would be a tricky subject in a multiplayer-only experience, few had hoped that Bethesda would start kicking people out before introducing private servers.

Lol way to ban the few people who actually stuck with it.
I would understand if it was cheating, but it says many instances are resolution mods and interface fix mods resulting in the bans.
That's garbage.

Kados2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Unfortunately, they have no way of knowing what the mod does. The server just does a basic file integrity check. It knows when files have been modified, but not how they have been modified.

Also, because most games these days pack individual files into .bin container files, it most likely doesn't even know which file specifically has been modded. It would do an integrity check on the .bin, see that it has been altered, and act on that. It isn't going to scan every individual file within the container. So even if only something like a map file has been altered, if the map file is contained within a .bin, along with other more important files, you will still get a ban.

kevnb2372d ago

how can you even cheat in this game? Truth is they want to make sure you buy their stupid micro transactions.

ChrisW2372d ago

Ummm... The in-game points, "Atoms," can also obtained by doing missions, dailys, and leveling up. I never spent a penny on buying more Atoms. Only stupid people *buy* more Atoms! Annnnnnd... The micro-transactions are only cosmetic. (just in case you didn't know)

kevnb2372d ago

Most mods are cosmetic, what’s your point?

ChrisW2372d ago

I dunno... What's your point then?

ChrisW2372d ago

Personally, I don't know why someone would use a mod for ultra-wide. My monitor uses 21:9 aspect ratio and the game runs perfectly fine.

So, I think there's more to it... Aka a bunch of tards crying foul because their mods are disguised as resolution mods and interface fixes.

Profchaos2372d ago

Well Bethesda built a title for PC gamers but left out things like ultra wide support and tied fps to the physics system. So banning people fixing the things Bethesda didn't implement should be ok but cheating via mods straight up ban.

ChrisW2372d ago

Ummm... 21:9 is ultra-wide

ssmilloy362371d ago

nothing they do ever runs fine. you know how to get gsync working in fallout 4? edit falloutprefs file then change to read only.....ban in 76

william_cade2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Wait. Mr. Howard made the game shitty so the modders would have an easier time modding the game, but now they are banning modders for doing just that? which one bought Bethesda - EA or Activision?

Kostche2372d ago

none bethesda have always been garbage company that are only still around because of the modding community

CorndogBurglar2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Lol come on now. Bethesda has several highly popular games that always sell well. At least until Fallout 76 anyway.

Let's not pretend like the huge successes of The Elder Scrolls games, Doom, Wolfenstein, the Fallout games (minus 76), etc had nothing to do with Bethesda still being around lol.

The bottom line is that Bethesda has always been a popular, well liked company that released highly popular games that were successful because they were fun as hell, despite having bugs and glitches. Everyone knew this. All it took was one massive misstep, like Fallout 76 to turn everyone around.

We can't turn back time and pretend that everyone always hated Bethesda. That clearly isn't the case. That didn't happen until fallout 76.

Kostche2372d ago

@corndogburglar, being popular does not mean they are good, they have been a buggy broken mess since elder scrolls vampire bug way back in the day, i give you the NEW doom and wolfenstein and fallout vegas are good but scrolls and fallout3/4 are garabge messes, they have been getting away with broken buggy games for years, and its been because modders and what they have done for the company that brought more gamers to their games

as for none hating till fallout 76, its just that now with how gamers are and social media is bigger they have been exposed for what they are, hell they even stopped putting on steam so they can push their own platform where they can refuse refunds and push there dream of paid mods which pissed them off that it got rejected on steam, this 76 is probably the pay back for that

Profchaos2372d ago

I'd say EA Activision blizzard allow mods in wow still haha

Rachel_Alucard2372d ago

Todd Howard at Bethesda Maryland had nothing to do with this game outside of adding a new rendering system and the lighting. Bethesda Austin who was literally created in March this year made this dumpster fire. Austin is actually this really awful studio called Battlecry studios who was founded in 2012 and has yet to release a single game before 76. They had battlecry which got cancelled a few years ago and got stuck making DLC for Doom 2016 after Creative assembly left. They're team is so disjointed and the higher ups keep getting replaced. Maryland is furious at Austin for this shit and now has to fix 76 instead of work on Starfield, so expect an extended wait time for Starfield thanks to Bethesda austin.

What about the people who use mods to fix the game? Oh wait that’s considered cheating because they would have an unfair advantage over the ones who don’t use mods.

:p

Godmars2902372d ago

Given that payers modding/fixing their games is something they've pretty made standard this is a bit surprising.

Yet by the MMO nature of game this really shouldn't come as a surprise.

CJQNSNYC2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

In any other case I would agree with a ban for using mods in an online game. With Fallout 76 and the numerous shenanigans that have followed? NO!

The nerve of Bethesda calling people out as cheaters when practically every single aspect of this game is one massive scam is hard to believe. From the flipped assets that comprise the overwhelming bulk of the game to the blatant lies used to market the game, cheating! The Atomic Shop selling items that were free in Fallout 4? Cheating! The entire Power Armor Edition fiasco? Cheating!

Who would have thought that in the space of a few short months, the years of goodwill built up by this studio would evaporate?

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

jznrpg1d 10h ago

I’m sure many would want bold and creative done well, but that’s easier said than done. I like variety so give me a little bit of everything, done well of course.

Nightcrawler892d ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno2d ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Scissorman1d 18h ago

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

Pedrof2d ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".
