Hmm now this game came out of nowhere for me a couple of days ago and I think it looks absolutely fantastic, there is only one thing that I have seen that grates on me a bit and that is the main character.

I am a massive mainline final fantasy fan and haven’t been able to scratch that itch since AT LEAST 2005 when ff xii came out. After seeing this game I instantly felt like this may be the one!

However, as you choose either male or female main character in this it just makes me feel like the main character is going to be an empty shell without there own epic story. All the best ff’s centres around a hero’s story and I can’t see the story in this game living up if this is the direction they’ve taken. It just makes me think I am straight away not going to enjoy the story as much as those games.

Now before you say it I know they are doing there own thing and are not trying to imitate FF. I applaud them for that, but I am just saying what my personal preference is. Personally for me the best game stories I’ve experienced have had a full cast, not a bunch of side characters who are interesting and then the main character is this empty shell as this is supposed to be “me” or whatever. I could give examples all day but feel I’ve already gone on long enough. Does anyone know if that’s the way the main character is as that’s the impression I’ve got....

That's not the case with the main character. It's like that with the mobile game, because that's normally what is done with mobile games.

With the console games, the main character is being given the story and personality of the anime, which isn't generic and is actually very well written, so I don't think there's much reason to worry there.

I suggest checking out the anime if you have a chance. It's very enjoyable :D

I hope this comes west in 2019... but I have a feeling we are looking at 2020 or beyond and may even be after ps5 is out. Maybe will be on both ps4 and ps5 but can’t count on that

On top of that, we all picked a "Beyond Co-op" game of the year as well. That’s twice the GOTY picks for the same low price (free)!" says Co-Optimus.
