Fortnite Beats RDR2 and Fallout 76 as 2018's Trending Game in the US, According to Google

Fortnite was the most trending game this year in the United States, according to Google, beating the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 76.

Strangely enough, Pokémon Let's Go, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Marvel's Spider-Man aren't even in the Top 10.

Pointless metric in today's age.

Fortnite- a full year released game with weekly challenges that people look up regularly.

Fallout 76- a game without much need for out of game help and released only two months ago

RDR2- released only two months ago, articles segregated by activity type, otherwise doesn't require much help, recent focus in online gaming that doesn't really have much in it other than price gouging economy.

For sure. Plus Smash Bros was this month. Spiderman and Pokemon are both single player games, which don't get as much repeated attention (and both were released in the latter half of the year).

EDIT: Plus Fortnite is F2P and it also was in the center of some of the cross play discussion, and the whole platform-locked account issue, further giving it attention.

Fortnite is as hot as Hanzel right now

Go Fortnite! Really an amazing game that had the power to push for crossplay when no game could. Free-to-play with fair rewards. Constantly evolving with map changes, weapon changes, vehicle additions, tournaments, and secrets (wreck it ralph was wrecking fortnite).

Really, this is amazing fan-service. My only grip is that Sony gave in to crossplay, Microsoft why do you make us pay for live to play.. Sony and Nintendo (along with any other device) don't force it.

I thought Fortnite would decline after all the autumn games released but honestly most of them were disappointing. Everyone is attempting GAAS but it seems only Fortnite is doing it right. I came back for the new season, its simply more worthy of my grinding time than Black Ops4 and RDR2.

Fortnite also flipped the whole model on its head by being free to play making it more accessible. That is why it is still riding high.

@Eonjay
Yeah, this is quite brilliant. Personally I'm avoiding multiplayer games, and I'm not a fan of them at all, but this move was quite genious. The in game purchases are justified in such case. But now greedy publishers are forcing microtransactions in my SP experiences. That game is FREE, you hyenas!

Black ops4 is not just about grind, it’s about killing the enemy. TDM never gets old!!

After 10 years, team deathmatch is beyond old.

Fortnite dominating everything isn't much of a surprise.

TheEnigma3131959d ago (Edited 1959d ago )

Ummmmm fortnite is free and on almost every platform, so it should dominate. Why is anyone surprised?
