The fact they want to make it is promising. Obsidian are fantastic, even when given limited time & resources (New Vegas) or experimenting (Alpha Protocol)

kevnb2389d ago

Even stick of truth was awesome.

Razzer2389d ago (Edited 2389d ago )

Yes, but come on, that was material straight from South Park and the most simplistic turn based system there is. It is a great game, but how much of it was Obsidian?

KillZallthebeast2389d ago

That's entirely factual but the stick of truth regardless was still put together quiet well. New vegas launched as a mess but after the fact was a good game. Can't recall 1 bethesda dinosaur engine game that launched well

Razzer2389d ago

Personally I thought Alpha Protocol was horrible.

UltraNova2389d ago

Same here, there's no redemption for that mess.

Now I hope MS wont breath down their neck, putting pressure on them to finish with OW just so they can move on to an Xbox only game.

I'll be excited when Obsidian doesn't release a buggy mess.

MadLad2389d ago

It's called anything of recent memory. Notice anything from their kickstarter, where they have full control over funding and development goals, have been of extremely high quality.

kevnb2389d ago

thats because many publishers are horrible and end up sabotaging games because they think they know best, despite them being suits who dont know anything about games.

pietro12122389d ago (Edited 2389d ago )

Their recent titles weren't no where near as buggy as past titles. Despite their games being buggy Obsidian is one of the best rpg devs around.

Sciurus_vulgaris2389d ago

Obsidian was forced to rush Fallout: New Vegas, plus the game ran on a dated engine.

kevnb2389d ago

@Sciurus_vulgaris and it was still way better than fallout 3.

King_Noctis2389d ago

You sir are confusing Obsidian with Bethesda.

Zenbaby3692389d ago

That was my first thought.

Razzer2389d ago (Edited 2389d ago )

No, he is not. Even South Park had stuttering problems. Stick of Truth. Seriously. That game should have been solid from beginning to end.

Just because MS bought Obsidian does not make them perfect, dude. They are far from it.

KaiPow2389d ago

Bring on the snarky dialogue!

MadLad2389d ago

My most anticipated. Obsidian, CDPR, and Larian are the masters of the RPG genre at the moment.

PMind2389d ago

The only info I have seen even mentioning RPG elements in Anthem is that it doesn't have any.

MadLad2389d ago

Bioware is a shell of the company it was when they were handling stuff like Kotor, Baldur's Gate.

Ausbo2389d ago

It’s looking more and more like Microsoft made the right decision to purchase obsidian. Game looks great. Amazing what funding and time can do with the talent there.

lollord2389d ago (Edited 2389d ago )

Microsoft will kill what has made obsidian them though, and turn them into a soulless dev team.

ReesesPuffs2389d ago

You realize Obsidian nearly went bankrupt right? If Microsoft hadn't bought them they may not have had much longer to keep making games like this anyways.

jagermaster6192389d ago

Says the pissed Sony fan, just be happy you get to play one last game by this company.

Zenbaby3692389d ago

@ReesesPuffs I find that unlikely given the recent success of pillars and what looks like the probable success with this game. This doesn't make microsoft a hero.

mark_parch2389d ago

@Zenbaby369 I thought the recent pillars of eternity didn't sell very well

The Outer Worlds Could Fill a Unique Niche By Going the Opposite Direction as Avowed

Or it could just be the same as outer worlds 1. No changes just direct sequel.

Both are going to underperform.
