Battlefield V Is Having a Really Rough First Few Weeks

Ed M writes: This wasn't the start for Battlefield V that EA & DICE likely drew up. They have had to fend of controversy and reports of low sales.

Maybe EA should give DICE the time they need to actually finish their games instead of forcing them to milk their properties until they're driven into the ground.

Battlefield isn't FIFA. Big changes are needed between iterations. Even Activision gives their COD teams 3 years to make a game. DICE have made at least 1 game every year since 2015. It's taking its toll on them. They had more time to develop BF1 than BFV and it shows.

elazz2387d ago

Well to be fair the call of duty teams should be able to do far more with the franchise with the given time but Activision probably doesn't give too big budgets on development side.

Dice however is working on different franchises at the same time and you have a lot of other studios that are part of the development for different parts but I don't think that was the case for BFV. Anyway both these companies should change but will they really?... Maybe if they really lose all sales for a few years that something in their heads might spark.

JesusBuiltmyHotrod2387d ago

COD does not have a big budget? LOL at people saying shit while being clueless and un-informed.

WANNAGETHIGH2387d ago (Edited 2387d ago )

Perhaps people have finally accepted the fact that COD is better. My friend who was never really into both picked up COD over BF and he has never looked back. I keep saying it not everyone enjoys the large maps and over the top vehiclaur combact. I mean you get snipped from miles away all the time(I know snipers in this thread looking at me like a noob. Lol). But people just prefer close quarter action COD offeres, Black Ops 4 is fantastic fun and addictive, snipers are not a pain because most of the time your assault rifle can kill them when they miss there first quick scope shot. And it’s more grounded , 6v6 TDM never gets old. Fast paced and in your face. Just my thought tho, BF tries to do too much. COD keeps it simple.

AnubisG2387d ago

The focus of the two games is completely different. Cod is a twitch shooter where you run around like a headless chicken and shoot at everything that moves. BF used to be a tactical battle simulator where you had to think and if you worked together, you could win. They are both shooters but wastly different. Simply put, one could be called an arcade game and the other a simulator. i always prefered BF over CoD myself.

CorndogBurglar2387d ago (Edited 2387d ago )

You seem to have a problem understanding the difference between fact and opinion. This is not okay because they teach that in like 2nd grade.

You said, "Perhaps people have finally accepted the fact that COD is better".

You see, this is not a fact. COD being "better" is an opinion. Even if COD sells more it just means more people bought it, or like it more. But BF has always sold very well also. This is the first time the series has struggled like this and that is completely understandable considering all of the contraversy around the game before launch.

Some people prefer the smaller maps and close up fighting of COD. Some people prefer the more tactical approach of BF. It's that simple. It doesn't make one better than the other.

Do we understand how facts and opinions work now?

Smitty20202387d ago

Bf is a more realistic shooter compared too cod bf requires more skill

Sirk7x2386d ago (Edited 2386d ago )

Battlefield is for people that enjoy the large maps, high player counts and objective play. Problem is that it hasn't been good since Battlefield 4. That's still a great game and there aren't many shooter experiences like it. Also, the market is so inundated with great shooters. I still play Overwatch, Halo MCC and Battlefield 4 end enjoy them. Where's the time to add something else into rotation on top of single player games? Time and money available are factors. I'm working 60 hours a week. Getting too old for this s#*t.

AnubisG2387d ago

Yes but DICE should also get off the SJW bandwagon as well.

lawgone2376d ago

But the Nazi's were a very diverse and inclusive people! Oh wait, we can't say Nazi, facts could offend someone.

Dom_Estos2387d ago

Serves them right. That's what they get for handing the keys over to EA, so no sympathy for them. Only a matter of time now before we see some kind of split and DICE employees go off to form their own studio.

BlackOni2387d ago

DICE as a whole is making a game every year, but they have several studios. While it would be nice if all studios were working on one game together, it's a big company, and so they afforded themselves the flexibility of multiple studios working on different projects.

That said, they needed more time before this was out and ready. The PR plunders, specifically from EA CEO haven't helped either

-Foxtrot2386d ago

Maybe Dice will stop showing in political agendas by trying to rewrite history.

The Norway level, changing the real life Norwegian commandos and their story to a single woman who managed to do it with ease is so disrespectful

Jimmioj2386d ago

Perhaps the best would have been something in the middle of pushing DICE to fast, and the COD teams not getting enough done. Maybe give DICE 2 years, but keep pushing them as much as they do currently?

EA could burn down for all I care they were a driving force in gaming a few years ago and now they are worst than herpes to the gaming industry.

moomoo3192387d ago (Edited 2387d ago )

Reap what you sow D.I.C.E

Servbot412387d ago

They told me not to buy it, so I didn't.

AK912387d ago

They brought this on themselves.

V3geta2387d ago

On one hand EA is not giving DICE enough time to work on their games while on the other DICE is saying stupid things like "don't buy our games". Disrespecting your customers on top of putting out a bad product are the worst 2 things to mix together.

Yi-Long2387d ago

They're not disrespecting their customers though.

They have a creative vision, they make a game, and when you as a consumer don't like the creative choices they have made for that game, then you shouldn't buy their product. That's what they said. Which is the same thing every actor, director, musician, painter, writer, whatever would say.

It's very simple: They're creating a shooter that has options for you as a player to create and customise your own character/avatar. Which is something many gamers have asked for over the years.

They did that, and now there's a portion of gamers who feel somehow (!) upset about that.

I have to agree with EA & DICE on this one.

Dragonscale2387d ago

Seems their 'creative vision' was a bit too woke for some. Sorry but ea and dice deserve this, totally self inflicted.

DaCajun2387d ago

I can deal with their creative vision that doesn't bother me one bit but it is very DISRESPECTFUL to the people who bought Battlefield V day one then give a 50% discount less than 2 weeks after launch. It just goes to show you if you support EA they will screw you over again and again and again. They don't care about their loyal fans and customers.

Feel free to blindly support a company who keeps proving over and over they could care less about their customers and will continue to screw them over to just to make a quick buck.

Yi-Long2387d ago

@DaCajun; I kinda agree with you on that one, but on the other hand, if you bought the game day 1, you also want full servers and plenty of people to play against. And also, it's the holiday season, so sales are to be expected, for almost every new game.

Of course, when you paid full price on Day 1 it sucks when it's much cheaper within 1-2 weeks. Always.

V3geta2387d ago (Edited 2387d ago )

I'm not saying they should change their vision for anyone, just that they should be more diplomatic with how they respond to criticism. Something like "we understand that this isn't for everyone but we hope people will give it a fair chance" or anything along those lines would've been a lot better to say than "Don't buy it".

2387d ago
InTheZoneAC2387d ago

They've disrespected long time customers, retired vets, and what our flag stands for (does not mean freedom to be ignorant and push ignorant agendas)

Strafe2387d ago

'and what our flag stands for'

I'm sure they took liberties with what other people did in the war apart from the US, but ok. Some Americans really live in a bubble.

-Foxtrot2386d ago

So you think changing historical stories, like the Norwegian commandos is fine because of their "creative vision" despite saying they want to tell the "untold stories" of the war.

So they changed the story to a single female lead and ignored the real story because of what? Even though it's a huge historical story...I don't get it. They can't say they want to tell untold stories and then do that shit.

At the end of the day it's not only disrespecting their customers, it's disrespecting history aswell.

The Norwegian commandos managed to complete their mission without firing a single shot...that could have been a great, solo, once in the game stealth only mission.

No Way2386d ago (Edited 2386d ago )

Just goes to show, too, that gamers really don't want diversity - or for developers to take chances - they want everything to be, and stay, the same.

lawgone2375d ago

When your customers remind you that you're making a game you are marketing as being a WWII game and that blue face painted women with cybernetic arms did not have any role in the war and their reply is "then don't buy it" you are disrespecting your customers. Look, if they want to make a WWII game with an alternate history then market it as such. If they want to make it a fantasy game then market it as such. But don't say it focuses on the most studied war in history and then make changes to it just to appear progressive. It points out the pure stupidity behind the progressive/SJW movement. I LOVE WWII games but every time I see that cover I realize it's not a WWII game. WWII with no Nazi's and women leading the way? Give me a break.

EazyC2387d ago

Absolutely, it really can't be stressed enough that this is a factor of two.

JesusBuiltmyHotrod2387d ago

They are saying if you are a bigot don;t buy their games....lol at this point. You must be a racist, sexist bigot then?

battlegrog2387d ago

well it might be a stupid comment i think this PC generation needs to stop which is finally being pushed back. They should be able to say that and then you can just not buy and but i dont think its disrespecting its fans. The industry is full of this shit from this generation of constant un finished games

More broken and monetised games

indysurfn2064d ago

Hmmmm let me make this a little more honest...: EA teases unknown Micro transactions! Really!, it is literally unknown Micro transactions. They will say they have no "plans" for MT's then release MTs after people start playing it. So they are unknown (to the player that is).

RacerX2064d ago

M... T... SPORTS.... It's in the game (behind a pay wall)

UltraNova2064d ago

Activision beat them to it, EA gotta step it up now...

VenomUK2064d ago

A remastered Mass Effect collection in 4k in time for next-gen would be a nice gifrt to the fans waiting for Mass Effect 4, and I believe it would sell very well.

Limitedtimestruggle2064d ago

I am all for another Battlefield in a few years time. DICE obviously needs their time to avoid another Battlefield V horror release.

execution172064d ago

They should just let LA Dice hire more people and let them work on a Battlefield or another Medal of Honor

anonymousfan2064d ago

A return to bad company would be nice

annoyedgamer2064d ago

Why does everybody blame the developers when its clearly EA that is at fault?

2064d ago
UltraNova2064d ago

Yeah they'll probably do an a female lead, MT filled Bad Company game next.

criticalkare2064d ago

New project at bioware...

Thats scaring me right there....

2064d ago
anonymousfan2064d ago

Hard to believe that studio was responsible for the Mass Effect trilogy. Just a shadow of it's former self. I am somewhat relieved EA didn't shut them down yet... They produced only disasters this gen except for inquisition. Still hoping they will turn that sinking ship around!

TheColbertinator2064d ago

Bioware needs some life support.

DrShoe2064d ago

Someone needs to keep them off the soy

SprigganN4G2064d ago

So next BF will be 100% next gen. Nice! Wanna see a big leap

EA’s E3 2019 press conference - More of what you expect, yet still underwhelming

"EA's E3 2019 press conference is over, and I honestly feel bad the people who hosted this presentation...And I feel equally bad for those who watched the show on site and from the comfort of their homes, and this is the reason why." - Justin Easler, TGG.

SegaGamer2207d ago

Battlefield, FIFA and Madden, these 3 games are at every E3. It's hard to stay interested when we see the same thing every year.

TGG_overlord2206d ago

Yes indeed...And no new IP's whatsoever.
