12gb RAM vs 8gb RAM is the most common thing that gets ignored

Atticus_finch2353d ago

Gutz Diminishing returns is the most important thing that gets ignored.

starchild2353d ago

@Atticus_finch

Nah, we're not even remotely close to reaching a point of diminishing returns. Game visuals have a LONG way to before they look as good as high quality CGI in movies, and there's still improvement to be made beyond that. Not to mention all the annoying artifacts that games suffer from, such as pop-in, aliasing, and stuttery framerates.

These devs just aren't trying to push the visuals in this game.

darthv722353d ago

More powerful, yes but this dev was aiming for parity. So they had to cap to the pro.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Godmars2902353d ago

@starchild:
We've actually been at the point of diminished returns since graphics became the focus with HD. Have literally seen a loss of content and decrease in character AI while system power, though what everyone talk about, has become less important.

Much like if not exactly how downloading is the future and physical media is out, yet those downloads have gotten bigger and requiring larger HDD. Gives devs excuse to push out incomplete games which get patched later - maybe - where at the very least physical media forced quality control. Not to mention BR tech stymied at 50GB yet talk of 10TB is a thing.

50% more GPU power. should be a noticeable difference, unless they're REALLLY using those 2x FP16 instructions on the Pro.

ChasingTheSun2353d ago (Edited 2353d ago )

Its 40% more gpu power.

rainslacker2353d ago

More likely they just didn't optimize for the X1X. Either that, or the extra power wasn't enough to hit another milestone resolution which is conducive to making an easy port.

StormSnooper2353d ago (Edited 2353d ago )

The difference is negligible even on the most extreme scenarios.

StormSnooper2353d ago

@Eidolon
No, there really isn’t much between them. Not when it comes to any noticible difference considering how it was touted as a “beast” and what not.

@Doubtful
Look at you all triggered. You must be a big man, with a big boy job. ;)

Not really, certainly not $100 more powerful. You have to consider, the best looking games available on console are still on Pro.

Eidolon2352d ago

It is $100 more powerful. 50% more GPU power and they have made it future proof(HDMI, 4K Blu-ray, etc, quiter and smaller than Pro). You can get one for $350 if you look.

Chris_Wray2353d ago

Not a huge surprise. Subnautica isn't the biggest game around nor will it really use the full power of either of the enhanced consoles.

KaiPow2353d ago

Maybe they hit a milestone and went "Yup, this is good enough."

lnfiniteLoop2353d ago (Edited 2353d ago )

maybe they just hit a cannot be arsed milestone and went "yup, that'll do its only a $29.99 title"...

ccgr2353d ago

hmmm interesting, glad it runs well regardless

slavish02353d ago

Lazy no matter how u spin it

Atticus_finch2353d ago

It's a $29.99 dollar game. I would say they are efficient.

conanlifts2353d ago (Edited 2353d ago )

We can't expect every small company to optimise for a platform with a few million users. It would only account for at best a couple of percent of their target audience.
As a day one Scorpio owner I was always aware this would be the case with some games.
