I Do Not Find Fallout 76 So Bad: What Am I Missing

It is no secret that Fallout 76 has had a rocky reception from fans. Yet in a new Opinion Piece; Skewed and Reviewed ask what they are missing as despite the issues they find the gameplay has been enjoyable for the most part and said their review range is closer to 60% as of now.

Alexious2396d ago

It is not. It's just the folks were prejudiced against it from the beginning and now the Internet outrage machine, fed by so-called YouTubers with clickbait rants, has spun out of control.

Garethvk2396d ago

Thank you. I put in a few more hours last night while the magazine was being completed and I kept thinking to myself how I am enjoying it and the issues have not been a deal-breaker for me as of yet. I am tired of questing on my own and ready to venture out with some of the staff soon now that our schedules will allow it. 3/5 or 2.5 of 5 I get but not 1/10 or 1.5/10.

Nyxus2396d ago

And what is the excuse for it being a dated looking glitch-fest that runs on a dinosaur of an engine?

Armaggedon2395d ago

Dated looking? The artistic direction of every game does not need to be photorealistic. I think the game looks pretty good for what it is when it is working correctly. And I have played all the big AAA games. Also, you may want to do research on engines.

Nerdmaster2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

"The artistic direction of every game does not need to be photorealistic."

This game doesn't have a stylized visual style. It's actually trying to be realistic, but the engine is holding it back. So many other games use similar visual style but have much better graphics, and that's why Fallout 76 feels dated.

badz1492395d ago

@Armaggedon

"I think the game looks pretty good for what it is when it is working correctly."

Sure....if you compare it to other PS3 or 360 games! It's at the bottom of the barrel as far as this gen's games are concerned! Stop trying to defend this game's graphic. Bethesda is not an indie studio, they have the budget to do better but they chose not to and continue to milk their dinasour era engine and gullible gamers are allowing them to.

Whatever2342395d ago

Good .Hey developers keep making online games with little content and buggy as hell,we love it and hope more developers make online games this way.Don't worry we will keep buying this crap at whatever price.

Remember when Infinite Warfare had a rough time over people not liking the futuristic setting and trailer? Game was actually fun and solid.

Razmiran2396d ago

Infinity warfare worked
This doesnt

Garethvk2396d ago

Playing on a PC and it works fine for me. No crashes or Lag. I have had one hang up of note. Biggest issue is clipping where enemies can reach through walls and balance issues for me so far.

franwex2396d ago

I recall everyone liked infinite warfare, until they realized it was a COD. My brain like: wut?

OnlyThoseOnTheFence2396d ago

Is that why it's already been replaced with another cookie-cutter CoD? Must have been a great game...

It is...it's a badly made game with legit issues, people could sense it a mile off

"wait until the beta" they said

"wait until launch" they said

"wait until the game goes through multiple patches over years to improve the game" they now say

How much can people deflect? If you like it fine but don't say people are wrong and they have no right to complain when they clearly do. Why let big companies get away with shit like this.

darthv722396d ago (Edited 2396d ago )

People have a right to complain, but those who actually play it are more/less the ones who could really say one way or the other. Experience has a way of legitimizing opinions but we all know everyone sees things differently.

Would you believe someone who has played it, and formulated their own opinion, or someone who hasn't?

Personally i have not played it, so I can't say one way or the other. My son likes Fallout and is interested in playing this so I will get it for him. He has wanted to be able to play with/against others in the Fallout universe and now this is that sort of game.

Garethvk2396d ago

I never said anyone was wrong I said I do not find it that bad and I think some people are being to harsh. Big difference.

Shikoku2396d ago

@darthv72

I played it, it sucked. If I wanted to repay for fallout 4 I would have bought the fallout 4 VR version and not the craptastic online fail that is fallout 76.

darthv722396d ago

@shikoku, does the VR version of the game offer online multiplayer? the way i see it those are two different experiences. FO4 has its fans with some wanting the VR experience and others wanting an online multiplayer experience. Is there something wrong with those who are interested in either?

I feel those who get disagrees are being hated on because they have different tastes. We understand that not every game is for everyone but for those who find it appealing then why must they be hated on for liking something they do?

Realms2396d ago

The game is objectively bad and both gamers and reviewers agree it doesn't happen too often that there is a consensus among both camps Fallout 76 is a bad game even if you enjoy, no one is saying you can't enjoy it what most people have complaints about is the usual crap Bethesda has gotten away with in the past a buggy, glitchy out dated game.

Armaggedon2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

Its not the proper criticism against rhe game that is the issue, because Bethesda are screwing up hard right now, and are trying to make out like bandits. However, their were alot of people crucifying the game before the lawsuits. It takes two to tango.

Armaggedon2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

It is not objectively bad. Other broken games being released for $60 have gotten scores that accurately reflect it. The hate tsunami grew so powerful, that some people just go with flow, rather than state how they really feel. Why should some critics be honest about their thoughts on the game when their is the risk of overwhelming rebuttal from such a large group of people? Its like saying your atheist during the dark ages.

william_cade2395d ago

Exactly. There's no reason to defend this game. Actually it's anti-gamer to defend it.

yeahokwhatever2395d ago

As someone who was not really interested in this game from the online conversations about it, but purchased it anyways to play online with a friend, I can say this game is pretty wonderful. Yes, there are some problems. No, the problems don't ruin the game. It's crazy fun to just go exploring together. I didn't really need more than that.I really like how pretty much all of the players I've come across have been pretty cool and helpful, unlike most online games.

Nyxus2396d ago

It's not just Youtubers, it's also professional critics that are almost unanimously disliking this game.

rainslacker2396d ago

Many people and reviews seem to be able to say what they don't like about it. Usually hate wagons don't happen with both the community and the reviewers at the same time. Especially for a Bethesda game where the press likes to say everything is fine, or not that big of a deal.

Dragonscale2395d ago

This pos is an undefendable lazy cash in but of course people gotta justify dat purchase lol. Jim Sterlings dissection of this travesty shows just how bad it really is. Worst aaa game this year by a mile.

Bigpappy2395d ago

I remember Ryse got hammered by reviewers, yet was was the game I played ost and covered all the single player and multiplayer content. Morrowind was very buggy, yet it’s still gets my vote for the best game ever made.
So just because everyone seems to hate on something on the internet, that doesn’t mean you will not play it and absolutely love it.

I completed and totally enjoyed a Fallout 4 more than the Witcher 3, which I am yet to finish and not sure I ever will. No saying that one is better than the other, just say the ‘popular/unpopular’ thing doesn’t work for me.

Having said that I have avoided this game because I get the impression it is intended for multiplayer like ESO. I cannot commit the time needed for really good multiplayer session so I try to pickup single player games that let me piecemeal at my own schedule.

Remove any friends and play it. Then go play fallout 3, nv, 4 or skyrim. There's your answer.

Monkeycan82396d ago

I play fallout 76 by myself and I’m having a good time. Have you played it? Or are you just following trends?

There are plenty of problems with the game but so many have formed and opinion without even playing it

Rivitur2396d ago

No npcs kills the game there isnt a sense of purpose in the game.

Monkeycan82396d ago

There are NPCs

Just no human ones

isa_scout2396d ago

There's no real npcs. If you call the Mayor of Grafton(a computer with no personality or character ironically ) an npc then I guess there's a few. I own this game on PS4 and its absolute trash. Anyone that says its not a buggy mess is a liar. They don't release 90gbs of patches in a two week span for games that are well optimized.

LiamKreptic2396d ago

@Monkeycan8

You do know what NPC stands for right?

gamer92396d ago

@Liam ya it's Non Player Character. It's not Non Player Human

Monkeycan82395d ago

Isa_scout you obviously haven’t played much or met Rosie and NPC with a ton of personality and back story.

Monkeycan82395d ago

Liam Non Playable Character. There are plenty of them. Not just computers or recordings. Actually 3D modeled NPC’s with quests and stories and history.

Helios862395d ago

Ah yes, let's pay $60 dollars to form a opinion.
Any remaining RPG-mechinc was stripped from the game.
There are no NPCs.
The gunplay looks the same as in Fallout 4.

Now I hated Fallout 4, it was a travesty and an insult to the Fallout-universe as a whole.
Why in the hell would this be any better, when it's even more watered down.
They even straight up copied the code from Skyrim and Fallout 4.
And on top of it all it's seems like a buggy mess.

I think that's enough to form an opinion.
Walk around, collect trash, build a stupid base with said trash, rinse and repeat.
Not a very exciting gameplay loop now is it?

Armaggedon2395d ago

I dont think he is following trends, it is just people get bored easily. People should have been aware of this though, as it is a Bethesda game. Exploring and finding stuff has always been a large part of their games, I guess people were drawn to the other parts in Bethesdas past titles.

Armaggedon2395d ago

I always thought people liked Bethesdas games to explore and build their character, not to do quests. It seems I was wrong. Either way it goes, this "lack of purpose" is the same thing I felt in Breath of the wild, so I know what you mean. But in truth, when it comes to open world games at least, we make our own purpose, regardless of what the developers put in. This is why it is sometimes wise to pick games we like and just play those.

InTheZoneAC2395d ago (Edited 2395d ago )

you may like it, good for you. There's trash in the world people care about, everyone's different, but for me, my standards are different.

Lore isn't a suitable replacement for story in Fallout, broken gameplay mechanics aren't suitable for fallout, pvp is dumb af yet it was designed for that.

sinspirit2395d ago

Maybe, just replay another Fallout, because you're essentially doing just that but with 76, except with far less content, goals, end-game, important choice making, role-playing, and with a poor game engine. It's literally just copy-pasting old content with minor changes, with the least amount of effort to re-skin anything. They even ruined the lore of the franchise to do this game, for the sake of being the cool "first" dwellers.

Ahhh, but so long as you have fun with a game just banking on the fact that it only needs to be okay and distracting long enough with a false sense of progression by raising gear and enemy stats as you keep playing it's fine, huh? Screw innovative, real progression methods, good story, well-polished, memorable experiences, or games designed by passionate gamers pushing genres. Let's just support businesses pushing money grabbing methods that are literally designed to waste our time for dozens of hours and eventually lean towards wanting to buy a few micro-transactions to keep interest.

Monkeycan82394d ago

Sinspirit I have played all of the fallout games.

Probably have more time in them than all the people in this comment section. My opinion still stands.

The game is a 6 to 7 out of 10.

It’s buggy and a mess. But plenty of exploration story and NPCs.

Armaggedon2395d ago

Its not an accurate answer. 1/10 and 0/10 is not properly reflective of auch a scenario.
