'The true precedent for video games was, of course, set by EA and BioWare modifying the ending to Mass Effect 3 after widespread cries of disappointment. But Ubisoft's more recent decision is just as concerning - it might just be some trivial art changes in this case, but it sets an expectation and fuels the entitlement that leads to even more baseless backlashes." Gamesindustry.biz says.

"Slot machines on a counter in one map were removed. A sexually suggestive neon-lit sign for a strip club was replaced by a more moderate one. A blood splatter across a painting was removed. A few icons were replaced with inoffensive alternatives. O, the horror of it all."
Censorship is in of itself, horror.
Dictating what the world can see because of one market, is ridiculous. This wasn't Ubisoft caving to entitled gamers, it was gamers telling Ubisoft they were angry that the game was being designed to suit China first (A country in itself that drastically limits what people can see and say), and putting the world second.
You give an inch they take a mile. Gamers are done giving ground when they smell something fishy. A move to alter the original artistic expression for the sake of getting into China's market, only spells greed. Greed, that comes with a dire warning for what could follow.
Hey! Did you guys hear? They changed all the Jack Ryan novels. In the "hunt for red October", it is actually a US sub that went rogue and Jack hijacked it and delivered it to the Russians. I didn't think they could do it, but sure enough I looked at my book jacket, the one bought in the 90's, and sure enough, the premise has been changed. REVISION!
Also, they revised "The Wizard of Oz", Dorothy is a LGBTQ activist who is on a mission to make Oz more "diverse".
In the "Last of the Mohicans", don't worry, they found a whole tribe. REVISION! And don't get me started on what the revised in "Withering Heights"
Now, I really liked the revisions in "Where the red fern grows" and "Old Yeller". Finally, all the dogs lived.
