A few hours sounds reasonable to increase the roster from 8 to 76

still boggles my mind when you think about how many guys you will be able to choose from at the end.

I still can't believe I get to play a game where I get to punch Kirby with Bayonetta.

Or Cloud vs Ryu.

I had to 100% Melee again recently on a new memory card, and it reminded me how obscure the character and stage unlocks in that game were. You have to beat the target test modes, finish adventure mode with a "2" on the end of your timer, etc.

And as a kid with no internet, i just had to figure it out/stumble upon them. Made a new character such a big deal, and i was never sure when i had everyone (especially with stupid kids on the playground talking about sonic, tails, toad, etc). Kinda miss the mystery of unlocking new characters in Smash.

I remember with Brawl i probably had the game for a year before i found out Toon Link and Wolf were hidden in the Subspace Emissary.
