Not sure why people care so much. The game is great. Sure it's not for everyone, but I am having a great time in the game so far. The catching is definitely simplified (although good luck catching on the TV waving your joy con around, lol) compared to the core games, but this was never supposed to be a mainstream pokemon game.
vs complaining for the sake of complaining, not wanting to admit you were wrong in the past when you pre-judged it, and then using terms like "corporate slave" to try redirecting onto others. Feel better yet?
For someone who hasn't played it you sure talk like you know.
The only real difference is that catching wild Pokemon is done with the motion controls and throwing the pokeball. Like Pokemon Go. But battling other trainers is just like battling always has been with a turn based battle system. Also, you can see Pokemon wandering in the world. But don't let anyone tell you there aren't random encounters, because even though they are wandering in the world, they also spawn into the world and will even spawn right in front of you. So yeah, it's pretty random.
All in all, the early reports of this game were wrong. Period. It's not some half-assed attempt to make money off of Pokemon Go. There is definitely a lot of love put into the game and it feels like a normal Pokemon game. As long as you can get passed the fact that you don't fight wild Pokemon to capture them.
So. It isn't that people who like this are "corporate slaves" like you seem to think. Now that you and all the early complainers were wrong, it really seems like you are the one that is unreasonable and hated on something before you even really knew what it was.
Statements with such vitriol that the game 'is trash' without any evidence to back up opinion and then personal ad hominem attacks are not very insightful.
? Not sure if you've played other Pokemon games, but being able to see the pokemon walking around in the wild and catching them using Pokemon Go mechanics is not mainstream. Play something like Ultra Sun / Moon and you will understand. You had to battle every pokemon, weaken them, and then catch them in a pokeball if you wanted them in your collection.
" but being able to see the pokemon walking around in the wild and catching them using Pokemon Go mechanics is not mainstream "
Urm...yeah it is
You had to earn your Pokemon levelling up and also earn battling a wild Pokemon and managing to weaken it enough to catch it. When you are given Pokeballs everywhere and can just go crazy it ruins that.
I just can't believe you think this game isn't mainstream...
@Fox - go play Ultra Moon.. and then this game. And tell me which one is more akin to a core pokemon game. Maybe mainstream was a poor choice of words. I am saying how this game has been "dumbed down" to act as a go-between from Pokemon Go and the regular games.
It's casual form for a different audience, like Go on mobile is. But the usual mainstream fanbase of the franchise is more core than casual. So unless by mainstream you mean the typical casuals, i.e., the casual audience who like it/ have heard of the game and maybe played Go, but haven't played other entries on a deep or more serious level...
Maybe people care because they think it's overrated, which it is and they wanted a proper Yellow remake not some streamlined, dumbed down version which holds your hand
Hell it's not even worth the full price considering it adds hardly anything to the originals, when they've dumbed things down and not added new towns, pre/post evolutions for the original 151, something like Battle Frontier from Emerald and the like
If they made a proper, expanded on Pokemon Yellow game, a ONE GAME version with everything in, it would have pleased everyone, as kids most of us were completely fine with the challenges the original games brought so why did they have to change things today? Hell even your rival is friendly with you now instead of the jerk he was in the past games, did people start to get offended or something, it made it much sweeter when you beat him at the end of the game. The thing is you start being blind because it's Nintendo or Pokemon and you'll end up seeing some of these features making there way into the brand new Pokemon game next year which I doubt not many people would want to see.
I just can't understand with how reviewers talk about difficulty in games and the games content vs the games price no one has bat an eyelid at this.
I'm pretty sure aswell I was told on here aswell that Metacritic didn't matter, it was Amazon as "they were the ones who have bought the game and played on it" yet now we're trying to downplay Amazon aswell.
maybe play the game.. then comment. Just food for thought I guess. You "thinking" you know what this game is like and trying to give an opinion on the matter is a little unjustified. I have the game, I've put in 7 hours so far. I also have Ultra Moon and have put many hours into that. Is it as good a game? In some regards yes, the visuals look great, sound effects, music, presentation are all top notch. Obviously in other areas it's lacking, again, by design. Sure it's a reskinned Yellow with some features taken out. But again, this isn't targeted at core pokemon players. This is to attract the Go crowd and younger players. Next year we have the next mainline entry, then you can judge that. This would be like you complaining that New Super Mario Brothers is a bad Mario game when it has nothing to do with the core series.

who are you talking to? I never once said anything about Pokemon not being huge. This game will sell millions of units due to its ease of use and attractiveness. When I said mainstream I was referring to core pokemon games. This game is far from that, but it is not meant to replace those games. Only introduce a new group of players to the game.
Yup I have no complaints. It's good for wt it is and I like to be able to re-live yellow version again. I'm surprised how much of the game ive forgotten. Nintendo were very clear about wt type of game it was going to be and there's a mainline one next year. The only mad people around are the bunch of sour fans that think their way is the only way to do something.
