It's not just the engine. Their artists just plain suck. The quality of the art, animations, and lighting are terrible by 2018 standards. Bethesda needs to train up their artists or hire new ones.

414gamer2360d ago

Agreed. It’s all outdated as hell. Wish they would start from scratch

anonymousfan2360d ago

I am discouraged by the news that TES VI and Starfield will share the same freakin' engine... I understand it'll help the modding community but why can't we see graphics like Rage 2, Wolfenstein 2, Doom?!?

UltraNova2360d ago

anonymousfan,

Seeing as F76 is headed full speed for the flop bin, I have a hunch that Bethesda will either make or license a new engine for both ES6 and Starfield. If not, then to hell with them.

Training employees costs money and these are the kind of companies that have top management and owners who'd count every penny and want monetary result as soon as possible.

Kind of. I’m a 3D artist. I do c4d, maya and have experience in Unreal engine, Unity and Cry-engine. There’s truth to what you are saying but most pro game designers/artists have a base level of pro skill (not to say some aren’t amazing and some less so but the skilled ones take on lead positions to oversee). The tools and abilities of the engines are what let them flourish or hold them back. In the case of Bethesda’s engine, it’s so old that it has to be hacked and you do a lot of fakes to get the graphics to look better. This is part of why performance takes a hit. Newer engines run cleaner systems with better tools that are more efficient, less frankensteined and offer better tool sets to help the artist use their skills. You get better visuals AND better performance from a modern engine.

The whole game is a drag down. I am glad it bombed

excaliburps2360d ago

The graphics look very dated. I mean, I'm not a graphics whore or anything, but goddamn! It looks PS3-era, no? Textures look muddy, the FOV being super tight might make people sick even.

Baza2360d ago

It’s the same engine as fallout 3. That game is 10 year old. Rediculous.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Gamebryo and the Creation engine aren’t the same. I thought they built creation engine from the ground up for Skyrim. That’s besides the point though and it’s still quite dated as we all can see.

obz2360d ago

No JCole you’re completely wrong. Watch no clip f76 documentary. It’s the same engine with code from morrowind. Skyrim was just an upgrade of the engine.

JCOLE131952360d ago

Ahh I see. Thanks for the correction. With all the time they have between games you’d think they’d have a new engine by now 😒

UCForce2360d ago (Edited 2360d ago )

That’s the laziness of Bethesda. I really hate it.

DrumBeat2360d ago

New engine time, Todd. Chop Chop.

To think I used to hold these guys in such high regard. How they have fallen.

pleasuretokill2360d ago

This game looks terrible. Not so much the dated graphics/engine, I can deal with that.... The animations and stuttering are just unbearable. This engine needs to be retired. Even when Skyrim was released over 7 years ago, the graphics were decent, but, the animations were atrocious. Bethesda is falling behind the pack. R* and CDPR are the kings right now in AAA open world.
