Resistance 2 Co-Op Hands On Preview and Video

Co-Optimus writes"With hopes of 8 player co-op dancing in my headed, I gleefully hit the F5 key on my inbox this past week hoping for that Resistance 2 Beta Key. Finally on Friday it came, and the first thing I did upon walking through my front door was kick off the 2.2GB download off.

The beta consists of one co-op level, Orick, but it's a bit of a misnomer to call it only one level. The game seems to mix things up and randomize the objectives available in a level. I think I saw at least 5 variations to the start of Orick. This gives each map a ton of re-playability, but it also weakens some of the story elements."

I love how at one part the guy is shooting at like 20 enemies, turns to his left and there's like 20 more right beside him.

Seriously can't wait for this game!

I'm defintely a single player person but playing that co-op in the beta was the best multiplayer experience I've had in a game. Very fun. You really have to rely on you team and work together...but if you want to go out by yourself you can still manage to progress (but very slowly).

Can't wait until Nov. 4.

Btw, have you noticed how co-op is getting more popular? Resistance 2, Gears 2 and the game made exclusively for co-op: Left 4 dead.

That game moves a lot of aliens around at one time. It looks like chaos out there.

I completely agree with you. I'm a person who practically refuses to game online and much prefer the single player aspect of a game. Hell, that was the reason I loved the original Resistance so much. But I also agree that the online coop in Resistance 2 is awesome. 8 people fighting to achieve a common objective, whilst all the while relying on them to heal you and keep you full of ammo is awesome. While at the same time they rely on you to do the same in kind. For once in my life I can officially say I WILL be playing this game online, and that's not something I say lightly as a single player campaign lover.

The Medic gun is godly. Its like unholy vampire effect (kills enemy while healing you). So far I own with cleric, and soldier. Special ops gets killed so fast in comparison to the other 2 classes, In my experience. Have not leveled up the Special ops much yet though.

The medic gun is fun, though I can't tell how much it is doing in damaging the enemy in comparison to the other 2 classes. I end up usually around 6th or 7th in kills, but the xp from the medics is mostly from healing others which gets me in the top half of the group. As for special ops, when they the ability to go invisible, it extends their life a lot and makes some objectives a lot easier as they can run past the enemy to disable things. With soldiers, if they have a special ops feeding them ammo, that shield is godly and lasts forever. Same goes for a medics healing if a special ops feeds them ammo so they never run out and have to shoot the enemy in order to get more ammo to heal their allies. A good group of the three can hold off a lot of enemies.

p.s. The beta is fun... :)

Its like a laser your getting xp and damaging non stop with whatever its touching and it will touch multiple enemys simultaneously too. I like it when special ops keeps the nades coming too very usefull when you got large groups of foes around. The shield is only protecting the front Still , true its handy though. Yet without a special ops guy feeding a soldier you will run out of ammo and shield a Medics gun is infinite/godly. True a balanced group is best im just saying I feel overpowered as a medic.

Guys who don't know how the hell to play... they come in as medics and refuse to revive you or replenish your health and you gotta suffer the whole time. "dying re-spawning".... Only way to stalk back on ammo... when they don't do their job....

im in the beta aswell and i can say its more addictive than cod4. the only problem is the guns dont do as much damage like cod4 dose.

INehalemEXI4272d ago

The enemys in R2 have alot more hitpoints then those in cod4 too.

I have been frequenting the myresistance forums again since I got into the beta...and the complaint of weapon damage is everywhere...

the official response so far is that the weapons only suck for you early on...as you gain XP and rank up, your weapon options and damage potential sky rocket...

but nonetheless it was pretty frustrating to have this crazy chaingun that takes 5 seconds of straight fire just to bring down a single 'normal' enemy...

my only other complaint is with the aiming down the sight mechanic (which now tries to be more like CoD, where as fall of man was a simple zoom mechanism like the pistol in Halo)...I like that you hold L1 to shoulder the gun (much better than clicking R3)...but it is completely pointless...it doesn't slow your aim speed down, making it feel wonky...and it doesn't tighten your accuracy...at all...it literally changes nothing except for a very slight zoom effect...

now I already know that this mechanic drastically tightens the accuracy in the single player campaign...you can clearly see how the reticle pulls into a tight cross hair when the weapon is centered on screen...but the beta has none of that for online...I really hope that is addressed...
