Blizzard: We Now Have Many of Our Best Developers Now Working on New Mobile Titles

More Blizzard mobile games are on the way it seems as the studio confirmed its best devs are working on mobile titles in a new interview. Check out the complete quote in the article.

UCForce2425d ago

Oh my god ! Are you seriously, Blizzard ?

-Foxtrot2425d ago

This is when you know a studio has hit that point where they arrogantly think "f*** them...our games sell really well, we rake in the money, they'll buy our games still"

Born2Game832425d ago

They aren't wrong. People talk big on the internet but majority of the people who play/buy their games don't even care for gaming drama.

-Foxtrot2425d ago

They aren't wrong?

Them saying we're entitled or saying it's about toxic masculinity with how we're all misogynists...yeah okay then

Skull5212425d ago

Nice, take the talented devs off of the triple A projects and put them on worthless mobile games no one wants to play... this story just gets worse and worse every day.

FinalFantasyFanatic2425d ago

I guess it's no surprise, mobile games are a cash cow, generally an easy, low effort way for companies to increase cashflow, they better remember to put that money towards their AAA titles later though.

RacerX2425d ago

Blizzard revived backlash from their most loyal gamers about mobile gaming... And Blizzard doubled down right in their faces!!!

Just goes to show you how profitable mobile gaming and micrtransactions are! A developer can shit on their loyal gamers for 30 years and not blink an eye!

Michiel19892424d ago

I dont care for gaming drama. But I do care for quality (pc) titles by blizzard. As far as im aware this is the first time they outsourced one of their ips, and its to fucking Netease.....

That they make a mobile game of diablo, fine. That they outsource it to a company who is known for its mtx monetization bs, big no no. That they outsourced it to the company that ripped their game off...big no no. That they butchered blizzcon by announcing this there the way they did, big no no.

When act and blizz merged they said it would still be seperate companies, but I think thats not true anymore. The games and how they monetize their games in the last few years have shown that.

RIP blizzard you will be missed,

Alternate title

"How to kiss off your customers more. It's like they're trying to compete with ea for who can make the stupidest comment.

Ok blizzard....we get it. You want to make mobile games. Stop defending yourself and make the games and shut up about it. Convincing the console or pc gamer who are hardcore enough to tune in to the issue or ever even know this is has been a backlash for you aren't going to be convinced by any of this, and we've heard this same mobile justification from many companies over the years. We may still support some of them who don't act like complete jackasses about it, or still provide us with other products we want.

He ll, I don't even really care about blizzard or Diablo that much, and have never really taken issue with blizzard, but I empathize with those who are upset, and all this reaction from blizzard is kissing me off, because it's highly disrespectful to their fan base.

Sirk7x2425d ago

And yet EA and Blizzard both still made billions this year, and are two of the most profitable publishers. Sucks, doesn't it? On a positive note though, Sony and Nintendo pretty much blow everyone else out of the water.

Dani_i892425d ago

@sirk
Sony and Nintendo games aren't that stellar either....this easily the weakest generation. Thank god for CDPR and Rockstar managed to put a shining light on this gen, as well as a number of Indies and some solid remasters

rainslacker2425d ago (Edited 2425d ago )

CDPR hasn't even released a game this generation. Unless you mean Gwent....or Thronebreaker.....

I agree with there being many great indie games, but I'd disagree about the quality of Sony and Nintendo games. Its too early to tell how Nintendo will do this gen...unless you're talking about WiiU, in which case, fair enough....and to me, Sony has had one of its best generations so far when it comes to their own output.

CorndogBurglar2424d ago (Edited 2424d ago )

"CDPR hasn't even released a game this generation. Unless you mean Gwent....or Thronebreaker....."

Uhhh.....am I missing something? Because I seem to remember a little game called The Witcher 3 launching on PS4...

It wasn't even a cross-gen game as it is only available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It's not on PS3 or 360.

CorndogBurglar2424d ago

@ Dan_i89

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but you are in a huge minority if you think PS4 is having one of its weakest gens, games-wise lol. They have been killing it this gen and putting out highly successful and loved games every year since launch.

I'm not even a big fan of a lot of the exclusives but you have to look at how well the games do and if people like them. You can't say they are having their weakest gen simply because you don't like the games. That's you. The majority of people would disagree with you and the games' success proves that. That also proves that they are having one of their best gens.

Larrysweet2424d ago

If Diablo does well, expect everyone to jump in. I mean, it's been happening for years though, Halo even has mobile games. Mario, Pokemon, Diablo, Final Fantasy. Lol, watch Blizzard announce a new Warcraft and Lost Vikings as mobile titles xD
I'm gonna just end up switching to only retro gaming and emulation soon it seems like.

Core fans will hate the direction they're taking, but the game will have a decent player base and it will rake in cash.

This is the trend of the industry. It's nothing new. Stocks will take an initial dip, but will rebound and even go higher because of better earnings thanks to DLC, MTs and Mobile intake.

This whole "Downfall of (Company)" statement really only applies to the moral of its fans, because profits for these companies have never been higher.

fiveby92425d ago

So sad. What's happening to gaming? It's being destroyed by the casual mobile crowd in other regions of the world. It was nice knowing you Blizzard.

Cobra9512425d ago

It's a downfall from a real-gaming perspective, not necessarily a financial one. It may very well lead to higher profits for them. That doesn't mean we should just accept it, and take whatever they dish out. Let the ignorant masses bite that rusty hook. We need to seek alternatives.

rainslacker2425d ago

A company has to decide who it's going to serve. The customers they have. New customers they don't have. Both of those groups.

If they want to get their current customers to support them in a place where those customers don't typically buy their products, then you need to respect those customers.

If they want the new customers, and aren't so worried about the current ones buying in, then stop marketing that new product to the current customers.

If they want both, then provide what the current customers want, and then, maybe they'll buy into the new product, and you can work towards the new customers as a separate thing.

Blizzards problem here isn't that they're making a mobile game, its that they completely screwed up the venue for the reveal. That in itself could have been overcome, but Blizzard since then has been extremely disrespectful towards its users, likely because they think that beause they'll still make a lot of money, they don't have to respect their current fan base.

That kind of attitude worked out well for EA, two years in a row....where they still made a lot of money, but came in well under their projections for how those titles should have sold.

These companies will still make money, but they could make so much more if they just listen more to the fans, and treat them with respect.

Christopher2425d ago

That doesn't mean that you abandon money in other mediums. All that does is allow others to swoop in and take away a market you pretty much had on lock down.

Qweets2424d ago

Blizz used to be about making amazing games and pleasing the fans that made them who they are. Now all of the good devs at Blizz are gone and this kind of shit is happening

They've been crap for like a decade lol. Diablo 3 was terrible and broken at launch (literally couldn't connect to servers), with an auction house to pay for items with real money, as well as always online. Also it came after a 12 year wait from 2. Hearthstone is absolutely pay to win, as grinding for cards without is ridiculously time consuming. They sold to Activision. WoW is awful now, and they've been riding on that game since 2004. Turned it into a casual experience years ago. There hasn't been a Warcraft sequel in 16 years. Overwatch is great, and they continually support it, but the competitive system is completely broken, and they haven't implemented features that the fan-base has been begging for. People love Blizzard because of Diablo 2 and early WoW. Those were both a very long time ago.

Michiel19892424d ago

Its sad, their design philosophy has changed so much over the years. Especially the state a WoW expansion releases in. I always get suckered in to buy the new expac, play it for a month or two and then just be frustrated by how much of a grind it is. Ill try and keep myself from buying the next expac because bfa has disappointed me the most out of any expac.

I might be in the minority here but I really do not mind Overwatch's monetization, its all cosmetic and even without paying anything you still get a decent ammount of legendary skins. Hearthstone on the other hand.... If you didnt play for 2-3 sets it will costs hundreds of dollars to get 1-3 competetive decks. Especially since they removed the sets that you could buy for a static amount. Now every new set is a huge money sink if you want to make good decks.

It Shouldn't Take Expedition 33's Success to Remind Square Enix That Turn-Based Still Sells

TNS: Expedition 33 was the wake-up call Square Enix needed, telling it turn-based RPGs are still popular, but that shouldn't have been the case.

True, but if it does get it through their thick skulls, then that works.

Although, the Dragon Quest 1 + 2 HD remakes will be turn-based and (the worst kept secret) Final Fantasy IX remake should be turn-based I would imagine. Let's see if any newer games go turn-based too.

thorstein2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

DQIII HD Remake was turned based and very successful. Then there was a really obscure turn based game came Balder's Gate 3. I heard it might have done well.

Profchaos2d ago

I wouldn't be shocked if they switched ff to the vii remake combat system

PapaBop2d ago

It won't get through to them though, despite E33's success, they still won't risk going fully turn based for their big budget projects simply because they are still in the mindset that it needs to be action combat to appeal to the mainstream audience. I hope I'm wrong but don't underestimate just how stubborn Japanese execs can be

barom1d 17h ago

Ya'll are hyping up Expedition 33 too much. Reminder that FF XVI sold 3 million in a week and it took Expedition 33 approximately a month to get to that (33 days to reach 3.3 million).

While it is true that Sqaure Enix has moved away from turn based games compared to how they were in the past, there is a good reason for it.

Older gamers will know this but during the ps2 era, we were flooded with turned based games from Japanese studios and this created a form of fatigue back then going into the next generation.

When Square released FF13, they received heavy criticism for making the game turned based like every other FF game and not doing enough to innovate. This is why they made FF15, FF7 Remake and FF16 have real time combat. It gave the series a fresh spin and has brought in new fans to the series.

I personally would be happy with either turned based FF or the real-time combat version we see today.

Shane Kim2d ago

Remake and Rebirth have "turn based" if you set it in the settings.

Lexreborn22d ago

Dang wish I saw your post before I made mine because we definitely feel the same way lol

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Yeah hit the nail on the head but its like ww2 games we get hundreds of them then a decade of nothing and people start missing them i think we're going to start seeing them return

Claire, dragon quest even yakuza have seen turn based return

Runechaz1d 12h ago

Every Pokémon game is also a Turn Base RPG.. and selling millions

andy852d ago

Only need to look at their own game DQ 11 approaching 10 million to show there's a market. And that's not as big of a name as FF

Runechaz1d 12h ago

you can also look at the Pokemon game number

Tacoboto2d ago

Another article about Expedition 33 and Square Enix and turn-based games? This is starting to sound like propaganda.

The game didn't sell because it's a turn-based game; it sold and is enjoyed because it's a really freaking good game that released completed at a good price without gamer drama attached to it. No Mtx, no wait-until-it's-patched, minimal bloat, a self-contained story, no multiplatform BS. Just a solid original game that absolutely nails what it intended to do.

Redemption-642d ago

I was just about to say the same thing.

This comment should have a 100 upvotes, at least.

CrimsonWing692d ago

Maybe try actually listening to the fans who have supported the series for decades. This habit of ignoring your core audience just to chase people who were never interested in Final Fantasy in the first place makes no sense. And when that approach fails, doubling down on it is beyond baffling.

The battle system has never been the main reason non-FF or non-JRPG players stayed away. Gutting the series’ identity to chase a broader market doesn’t attract new players. It just alienates the loyal ones.

Keep going down this road and we’ll end up with Final Fantasy Fortnite abomination or a F2P Battle Royale game.. Oh wait…
