I see it as an option for selling in-game items, but note that many companies around such things don't want people to be able to sell those items. They want people to be encouraged to continue buying random lotto lootboxes for a chance at owning it, which makes rare items a premium to luck and whales rather than accessible outside of the game.

As far as blockchain for game sales, I don't see the benefit as you can sell downloads of your games online outside of storefronts as it is, you're just offering up a tool to sell it. The issue with those sales and why they go to storefronts isn't user ownership, but attempts to prevent piracy as well as reach larger audiences via social tools built into those storefronts. The benefit here would really be primarily consumer-side as ownership is more portable and easier to manage.

I still wonder why people talk of ownership of digital titles being done this way when the publishers themselves really don't want that. They want control, not the ability to allow their customers to resell their games, or do with them what they want, in game content or full games, it's the same.

its not everywhere in the world where you can sell your digital purchases, as I'm assuming you're speaking of the EU. And it took parliamentary action to make that a thing, which Steam itself was quick to try and find a workaround to.

I'm a little fuzzy on the law vs real world application on that note though. Can one sell their game as they please, or are there limitations to the storefront where one brought the game?

Blockchain could theoretically be used to prevent piracy though....however, as with most DRM things, there will probably be a workaround at some point, but if its like Denuvo, which it sounds like except more secure, it may curb the initial piracy which actually may hurt release window sales.

To me, right now, Blockchain just seems to be the fad du jour that everyone is jumping on to say how it could bring all these great things for us in the future. But I don't see how the real world application of it lines up with how publishers seem to view where they want the market to go for their benefit.
