Hexus writes: "Which graphics card do you go for if your budget is around £100?
NVIDIA's partners will point you in the direction of the GeForce 9800 GT, released in July of this year, and etailing from £85. Look closer and it's apparent that the GPU is not much more than a GeForce 8800 GT with the addition of HybridPower, but it's still a capable card nonetheless.
The £90-£100 mark is an area where AMD's well-received 4-series GPUs are conspicuously absent from, funnily enough, with Radeon HD 4670 finishing at around £70 and the Radeon HD 4850 beginning at around £110.
AMD is putting that right today with the launch of the Radeon HD 4830 - a cut-down version of the HD 4850 - and it has the GeForce 9800 GT squarely in its sights."
The good:
+Excellent gaming performance for under £100
+Multimedia feature-set remains strong
+Competitive idle and load power-draw figures
+Sample overclocked well
The not so good:
-NVIDIA offers its customers more than just a GPU - CUDA and PhysX are value-adding extras that AMD does not have
-Radeon HD 4850s continue to drop in price, limiting the scope of partners to customise HD 4830 designs before they become performance-uncompetitive
The Elder Scrolls: Arena is getting a full remake by fans that brings the game to modern hardware with HD visuals.
The earnings reports of Capcom's Fiscal year 2024 showcase the growth of PC over console, with 60% of game sales being made on the former.
What’s interesting is that, given how well their games sell, it’s very likely most of them fall into the 25/75 revenue split bracket. The larger ones, like Monster Hunter, are in the 20/80 bracket.
So even accounting for the vastly superior regional pricing on PC, I wouldn’t be surprised if revenue-wise from digital sales, both platforms are close, or if PC is ahead as well.
Yes PC is the biggest platform and it has definitely improved as a home console of sort plug and play. It's the only platform with actual freedom for gamers with modding. I was a console gamer for over 38 years and now I only play on Pc. Whether you are buying pre-built or building it yourself it's now easier than ever before to jump in
And my experience with pc gamers has been excellent, they are helpful with any questions on pc boards
