Smash should be wild and zany. Having something out of left field is far more creative than just giving in to fans demands. Christ, Sakurai already gave people Ridley, K. Rool, a bajillion other characters.. but let's whine more about Waluigi. He's in the game as an assist trophy.

It's not really about "Waluigi" it's the fact that they would pick something like a Plant character over him or anyone else who's more requested or relevant...and no I'm not talking about something silly which is too much of a stretch like Banjo-Kazooie. Even someone like Isaac is stuck to a trophy assist.

Urm...Ridley, Isabelle, Rool, Sonic, Bayonetta, Shulk etc were all fan requested characters and they delivered so why is this any different? You give people what they want since they are fans buying and supporting the game...you only do "wild and "zany" characters once you haven't got much left during the current time of release. Like they went with a standard Piranha Plant with Petey Piranha as his Smash, why not just do Petey Piranha, least he'd fit the game just a little more, he was in Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Power Tennis.

Okay so where's Pauline? That's "out there" and she was in Super Mario Odyssey so Nintendo still think she's relevant, plus having a little bit more history with Nintendo being one of the characters in Mario's first game appearance but no no...a plant. Geno, Wonder-Red, Mach Rider, Krystal, Midna hell even Birdo.

@-Foxtrot It isn't a stretch for Banjo-Kazooie to be in Smash. I guess you don't remember Microsoft has done things with their IPs before with Nintendo. Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise was on the DS. Sure, they might not have published it but that tell you they are open to their IPs on other systems if it can get more eyes on them. At the state of things are with them right now, you doubt they wouldn't do something like that is laughable.

Actually it is not a waste. It won’t even appear in the game if you don’t pre order. This is just a bonus for early adopters.

Because Waluigi is already an Assist Trophy. Also the Sakurai and the rest of the developers already made it clear they don’t like Waluigi. Sakurai would rather include Geno over Waluigi any day.

The Piranha Plant shows off how creative the devs can really get with characters with even generic enemy types. Waluigi never had a chance to begin with, so it’s not that “they would pick something like a Plant character over him.” The PP isn’t even on the base roster which must’ve meant Sakurai chose its inclusion late in development to specically troll the numerous people who wouldn’t shut up about Waluigi.

Here’s Sakurai creating the ultimate dream roster yet you have a legion of fans disappointed that one character that he’s not even fond of being relagated to a support character once more. It’s very hilarious this is his response to all that. It’s understandable that any fan base would hope for any particular character to join in the roster, but the demand for Waluigi above all other more deserving characters got out of control. PP is most likely the dev team’s way of telling people to get over it.

You're kind of coming off like it's fine for a company to come off like dicks towards fans who have requested a character in a game for so many years and think it's good for them to tell people to "get over it". I don't see how them asking for a character is so "wrong" out of some of the other characters choices within the game

You’re forgetting that Waluigi was already decided to be an Assist Trophy already. It’s not the company being dicks, it’s about the fan base being ravenous with a choice that was already made by the creators of the game.

It’s one thing request a character like King K Rool, Ridley, or Simon Belmont who hadn’t been shown off in any way before their reveal. However Waluigi was already in the game as a support character and it was honestly getting out of hand with how much people wanted more from that.

Saying it’s a dick move to include Piranha Plant as a playable character is honestly no different than saying it’s a dick move for so many people to be so vocal about a request to make an already confirmed support character a playable one despite all the other fan requested characters that made it in.

The Piranha Plant most likely wouldn’t even be in the game if people weren’t so adamant about Waluigi getting in. There’s so many other characters that got announced as Assist Trophies that you don’t see as many people complaining about. Yet for some reason this Waluigi meme got too prevalent than it should’ve been, so it’s seriously funny how the devs responded to it.

I can only imagine how the developers felt when they do all this work to include all these characters into one game for the first time ever, yet they keep getting heckled over one character’s exclusion. Sakurai could give everyone everything they wanted & dreamed about, but apparently if Waluigi isn’t in many of those same people will act like it’s the worst thing in the world.

Only thing I said was "acting like it's fine for a company to act like dicks TOWARDS PEOPLE who want a certain character as a request". Nothing was said about them being dicks for actually adding a character.

Did they want Waluigi to be both playable and an Assist Trophy or just to have his the work made to make him an Assist Trophy to be dropped and only include him as playable?

Saying the devs are somehow dicks to fans of Waluigi is basically like saying the devs are dicks to fans of every character who made it in as an Assist Trophy.

comments here are the reason Nintendo does these dumb things. Pirhana plant is the dumbest thing. They could have used the version from Double Dash and Sunshine atleast. But nope. A damn Pot. I don't care what his or her smash is. It's stupid. Millions of characters to choose from and you waste one on this. People are defending it over Waluigi like what's his moveset... Waluigi is so random you can literally give him anything crazy as a moveset and he'd be that spontaneous zany character you expected from smash before adding 40 Fire Emblem characters.
