Red Dead Redemption 2's Profanity Check is Ridiculous and Unnecessary

Rockstar Games allows plenty of mature scenes and bad language in Red Dead Redemption 2, and yet they don't allow you to name your horse what you want.

I was fighting with this last night for 20 minutes trying to name my horse something funny. Let us use whatever name we want, wtf is wrong with you rockstar?

That said, I do agree with you; there shouldn't be a filter on horse names.

The fact it's a mature adult game which makes it ridiculous to have to behind with, I can understand the potential need for a profanity checker for online orientated stuff involving other players but even in the single player? That seems a bit silly.

That would be very cool.... very... cool. Imagine just doing your everyday busy work in the game and you get the call for a bank robbery, and you ride up to meet with the 'others'.

Same here..this game is truly a masterpiece.It and Witcher 3 are tied as my 2 favorite games of this gen..I cant choose between the 2 but God of War is my third favorite game this gen..its extremely rare we get a gem like RDR2

Look its a great game. There is no hate, it's just not the best game at all. It's not the 'game of the generation'. I'm like 60 hours in, and it is not the best game ever. It's just a really great game with things in it that frustrate people and certain things that are boring (like most games). I love it though, solid 9/10 so far

I agree,I found a badass solid white horse in the north western part of the map..Ive been looking for a solid white horse to break and tame and make my own since I started the game..I finally found him and was gonna name him Cocaine and it wouldnt let me...since when has the word "cocaine" been considered profanity??we should be able to name them whatever we want,I mean its a M rated game that uses profanity in damn near every encounter but god forbid we use profanities to name our horses...smdh..lmao

Rockstar will feel what is right or wrong but will feel pressure from these groups especially with a new GTA.

Ultimately, it's up to developers to listen or take them seriously. No one is outside R* studio with picket signs or guns to the heads of developers/ their families.

And how they respond to external pressure is on them. The way I see it: if R*'s sales of the next GTA are affected profoundly because of some censorship, they'll likely respond by censoring content. But if their sales are profoundly affected, doesn't it stand to reason that a sizable portion of their fans are upset? In other words, the very people who support them are not happy with things? Business is all about keeping stakeholders and investors happy. You, the consumer, are an investor. If you're unhappy, pull support. That simple.

So you can't use some questionable words. I see why you might feel it's a slippery slope, but I see it as a nonissue. Personally, I'm amused by this because there are literally players who have "been through the desert on a horse with no name". And really, how dumb are some of these names that people are activating the word filters?

I tried to name my horse Nickel 'n Dime... It got flagged for profanity and I was like wtf? I took the ' out of the name, making it just Nickel n Dime (no apostrophe) and it accepted it. Apparently an apostrophe is offensive in some way. :/

If I had to make a guess, I'd say it has to do with livesteamers. There's a deep-seeded fear that there's some hypocritically offended people that may press an off switch on their interest in buying the game; because they saw a horse on another person's game with some nasty name... like it's the dev's fault. Violence, debauchery, and gore aplenty, but God forbid the content in the game project external offense!
