Assassin's Creed Odyssey Vs. Horizon Zero Dawn, Who Did It Better?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is one of Ubisoft’s best games, with one of the biggest open world ever created. Recreating ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War using historical information was no small feat. However, when compared to the Guerrilla Game’s Horizon Zero Dawn how well does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey hold up? Does Ubisoft’s journey through ancient Greece overtake Guerrilla Games' first open-world title or does Aloy’s adventure through homicidal robots overshadow Kassandra and Alexios grand odyssey?

Horizon: Zero Dawn did something new. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is just more of the same. I’d take an open world game filled with robotic dinosaurs over an Ancient Greece setting any day. I also like Aloy as a character better.

UCForce2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

I have to agree with you. Not just that, your progression in Horizon Zero Dawn is pretty fair and reward. Publishers put MT in the game just the progression feel slow and tedious. Aloy is my favorite female character.

Skull5212373d ago

Read Dead Redemption 2 did it better lol.

UCForce2372d ago

@Skull521 I know, but you really trying force people down on their thoart. It’s Red Dead, not “Read” Dead.

UCForce2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

Horizon Zero Dawn have a best sci fi story ever. I don’t know how many sci fi story make this, but for me this feel original.

I know this game is already out last year. But I have to put spoiler just in case.

Spoiler: Many post apocalyptic games usually about survival, rebuilding societies, move to space and so on.But this game took a different approach. In Horizon Zero Dawn, Earth was completely destroyed by Ted Faro robot and every humanities were extinct but Project Zero Dawn remade humanity. Nature didn’t remade us. It was machine remade humanity. That very refreshing to be honest.

In Terminator, people survive the nuclear and fighting for survival. But in Horizon Zero Dawn, it’s just a global extinction. This is way more terrifying than Terminator.

DerekTweed2374d ago

I like the ancient Greece time period better. I enjoyed Assassin's Creed more than Horizon Zero Dawn.

It just goes to show that everyone has different opinions.

starchild2373d ago

True. For me they're both really great games, but I think that AC Odyssey feels denser and more alive. Odyssey edges it, but I really enjoy both games.

Hardiman2374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

While AC Odyssey is longer, it has much more padding and while fun it's not HZD! It's cool cause I have both but if I had to go with just one it'd be Horizon.

HZD also has one of the best narratives and one of the most likable, fleshed out characters! Oh and robotic animals are never a bad thing!

UCForce2374d ago

Some people on YouTube said Horizon Zero Dawn is “boring”. “Sigh” I lost interest in AC series because Ubisoft went completely different direction. The modern days in AC series is getting boring and no fun at all. There is barely any relate to Assassin vs Templar.

Hardiman2374d ago

I enjoyed Origins and I'm enjoying Odyssey. I don't mind the new takes and I have no problems leveling up in Odyssey because I enjoy side stuff but Horizon is on another level.

The story, characters, combat put it over and it just has more polish. I rarely read all data logs in a game but in HZD I had to know what the whole story was. Also Aloy is one of my favorite characters! I emphasized with her as a child and wanted to see her story through.

TheGamez1002374d ago (Edited 2374d ago )

Speaking honestly here, horizen is just an "ok" game to me imo. The early part of the game was epic but after that it just got kinda boring for me. Story missions were just repetitive human base take overs or going into ruins to discover the past and mysteries, the story itself is meh so I lost interest. Stopped playing and maybe only have 5 or so missions left. I do still plan beating it some day though.
As for AC odyssey, played like an hr and stopped. Lol theres nothing assassins creed about that game. Also stupid that it has MTs. Miss the older ac games...Hzd is the clear winner for me.
Not a huge open world fan as I was back then since I usually just get too overwhelmed by them, feel like I need to do sidequests and such then just get bored and stop playing the game. I like my open worlds to at least be semi linear like GOW for great story telling. Great balence of open world and linearity that game. Spiderman did open world pretty well since sidequests were quick and easy to do and damn that amazing web swinging just keeps you entertained.

UCForce2373d ago

Horizon Zero Dawn have robots in it and way more challenging than human. Most importantly, they are main spotlight of Horizon Zero Dawn.

william_cade2373d ago

HZD was a polished and beautiful game. The story was great for a video game and there weren't any used car salesmen trying to sell me horse armor.

BigTrain2372d ago

As far as Im concerned, there is not comparison HZD for the win easily.

Movefasta19932373d ago

Just because they're open world doesn't mean they are comparable at all. Because they're totally different.

Sony Announces Ghost of Tsushima Anime, Helldivers 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn Movies

Sony is hosting its press conference at the start of CES 2025 in Las Vegas. As usual, PlayStation took the spotlight during the presentation, but not in the way you'd expect.

I can’t even imagine a helldivers 2 movie.
Hopefully they do it good

Cacabunga108d ago

Next is Horizon card game… the milking is unreal

Grilla108d ago

Yeah but with terminator style bots and the Illuminate. More potential imo.

mkis007108d ago

They better not be afraid of leaning into it hard.

S2Killinit108d ago

Im most excited for the Ghost anime.

vTuro24108d ago

I was about to say, they can just copy Starship Troopers homework and change it up a bit so the teacher won't notice.

SeTTriP107d ago

How when the game is literally inspired by a movie?

Goodguy01108d ago

Lmao, sony making more shows, films, and remasters this generation.

Lightning77108d ago

Yet let's ignore Ghost of Yotei, Intergalactic, wolverine and Santa Monica's New IP.

Yep all TV shows and remasters alright.....

Hereandthere108d ago

Ghost of Yotei looks like a ps 4 pro game at best, intergalactic only showed 4 seconds of in game footage, despite being in development for more than 4 years, wolverine might be good, Santa Monica's New IP was just for you to fill space and cover for sonys lack of 1st party games.

DarXyde107d ago

Remasters aren't games?

Didn't realize the same folks making games are also making films and shows (which Sony actually has been making before games, but ok).

Silly comment aside , Ghost of Tsushima as an anime sounds grand. Don't care too much about Horizon or Helldivers media, but it sounds cool to get more Jin.

Army_of_Darkness108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

You do realize Sony has a completely separate movies and tv series division right? They are simply catching on and actually taking advantage of their popular gaming ips

Redemption-64108d ago

Naaaaa, you are supposed to pretend they don't have a completely separate movie/TV division

Lightning77108d ago

@Here uh huh Right watch Ghost Of Yotei get the highest score on meta this year. ND doesn't miss so I expect Intergalactic to be a damn near Master piece, insomniac making Wolverine so you know they'll knock it out of the park. Santa Monica will probably announce their new IP this year and it'll be epic. It's about track record and all these studios have great track records. You wanna argue facts go ahead I'll win.

Lightning77108d ago

I was hoping for live action Ghost but an anime will be just fine.

Grilla108d ago

Last I heard the guy that made the John Wick movies was working on it.

Lightning77108d ago

Now that's gonna freakin dope.

-Foxtrot108d ago

I really hope they get the guy who played Jinn to play him in the film.

Elda108d ago

If true then there's hope.

gigoran8108d ago

out of all the titles they could have chosen, those 3 could actually make decent movies.

-Foxtrot108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

They’ve tried a Horizon series and it fell apart, what makes them think a film is going to work with a shorter run time.

I was hoping the GoT series would focus on Jinn after the main game.

S2Killinit108d ago

Im not sure about the show or why it allegedly fell apart, but the story in Horizon is pretty cool. I can see people enjoying it.

Michiel1989106d ago

they probably recorded some footage for it and now want to make a quick buck out of the remnants. You know what they say: fail once, rip your audience off.

There's too many games to choose from

No Metal geat solid 1,2,3,4?
No Resident evil?
No Silent hill?
No Midnight club 3?
No NfS Underground 2?
No Final Fantasy?
No Burnout 3?
No Dragon quest 8?
No Days gone?
No Ace combat?
No Tekken/Soul calibur?......
just from the top of my head

PS1 era was full of great RPGs, PS2 was racing generation i would pick top 200 and even that would be just a fraction.

FinalFantasyFanatic151d ago

30 is way too low over the entire history of Playstation, I just wouldn't be able to narrow it down that much, I would pick 100 at least.

Storm23151d ago

Yeah...really odd list. I get that it is personal preference and I love most of the games listed, but my list would definitely be different. I agree though, it would be incredibly difficult to come up with just 30.

lockedongamer1151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I only picked first-party titles. Otherwise, I agree!

EDIT: Except for Days Gone, I don't get the love for it but you do you!

Chocoburger141d ago

I didn't like Days Gone either, it doesn't deserve to be on any best of list.

Looks much better. I really like the upgrade to the character models epsecially and the robot dinos too.

GotGame818172d ago

Not worth the money. It isn't like remastered games going from PS3 to PS4, or 360 to Xbox One. Sorry, but those jumps in graphics were extremely noticeable.

REDGUM171d ago

To before it's only 10 bucks i hear if you have the original game. It's worth the tenner in my opinion.
If you didn't have the original you can pick that up for 5 or 10 bucks too on marketplace.

GotGame818171d ago (Edited 171d ago )

You are right, my bad. I didn't know the remaster was only $10 for the update. I thought Sony was pulling a TLOU again. That was ridiculous.

Exvalos165d ago

Its only 10.00......and if you dont have the base game ive seen it in stores as low as 9.99. At max its 19.99. Just admit u broke.
