Review: Spider-Man: The Heist | Destructoid

Spider-Man has been mixed up in a heap of relationships over the years and most of them are messy.

Injecting one of them into a DLC of all places sets off all sorts of alarm bells, but Insomniac managed to keep The Heist grounded within the foundation of Spider-Man to allow it to momentarily shine.

I'll be giving it a good unbiased score after I'm done playing it.

Weeblordbad2386d ago

Are you really insinuating that the author is biased? Really?

UCForce2386d ago

It’s about personal opinion really. But i’m sure DLC will be fun.

CaptainOmega2386d ago

Really? No. I'm not insinuating anything towards the author.

Born2Game832386d ago

No such thing as unbiased score. All reviews/scores are biased in some nature. Its just a human thing. If you claim otherwise you are straight up lying.

TheOtherMoon2386d ago

There is humor in your statement -- keep up the good work.

DarXyde2386d ago

No one is unbiased. You would do well to remember that.

The fact that you would say as much tells me that you aren't even aware of them.

CaptainOmega2386d ago

I don't hate Spiderman, and I don't love Spiderman. I don't dislike Spiderman and I'm not a huge fan of the character. I think I can come up with a good score in an unbiased way based off the DLC and it's price.

DarXyde2386d ago

BeardedDrachen,

Listen to yourself:

"I think I can come up with a good score in an unbiased way based off the DLC and it's price"

Really? On what grounds do you disagree with the score? What do you mean "come up with"? Are you sure you're not just trying to be antithetical?

What you don't mention is how you feel about PS4, and knowing this is (a) an exclusive, (b) from Insomniac, and (c) a popular game, I think it's fair to say that there are more factors than you care to mention or acknowledge.

You're obviously welcome to write a review, but it's not going to be unbiased, no matter what you tell yourself.

CaptainOmega2386d ago

I only own a PS4, I've played many exlusives on PS4 whether they were popular or not, and I've only played a few games from Insomniac.

I'm not a fanboy, I will say if something isn't 10/10 or 6/10.

For you to just think I can't look at the game as objectively as anyone could is beyond me.

It was a little short for the price.
I liked Black Cat. I didnt quite like how abrupt the ending was. I loved the character interactions between Spidey and Cat.
I liked the twist with the paintings, I didn't like playing as MJ. I liked the phone calls with Miles.
I liked the different challenge events although they could have been more challenging.

This was a solid 7.

DarXyde2386d ago

"For you to just think I can't look at the game as objectively as anyone could is beyond me. "

When did I say that? I literally said, before anything, "no one is unbiased". Every review, opinion, endorsement, etc. is biased. I'm not saying you're any worse, but you're not any better either. I cannot write anything unbiased either, and that's just the nature of the beast. Let me repeat myself: no one is unbiased.

"I only own a PS4, I've played many exlusives on PS4 whether they were popular or not, and I've only played a few games from Insomniac. "

Anything you write will also be based on the types of games you personally like (thus, a form of pervasive bias). I, for instance, should never be trusted to write a review for a FPS because I don't like them. Likewise, if you enjoy something and you write a review, how would you NOT be biased?

"I'm not a fanboy, I will say if something isn't 10/10 or 6/10."

Great! It's still biased. The only objective comments people can make about games though are things like performance, responsiveness, length, and price. Comments on things like fun factor, value, and narrative where you give a personal opinion is, in fact, biased. How do you not see this? You are not above bias, my friend. Movies, literature, reviews, ideals for standards of beauty, etc., etc., etc. All biased.

"It was a little short for the price."

Opinion. Biased.

"I liked Black Cat."
Opinion. Biased.

"I didnt quite like how abrupt the ending was."

Opinion. Biased.

"I loved the character interactions between Spidey and Cat."

Opinion. Biased.

"I liked the twist with the paintings, I didn't like playing as MJ."

Opinion. Biased.

"I liked the phone calls with Miles."

Opinion. Biased.

"I liked the different challenge events although they could have been more challenging."

Opinion. Biased.

In no way am I shaming you for having your opinions, but just about every review ever written in various industries has been biased. You cannot with all your strength write an unbiased piece unless you are reporting purely facts. If you can cite polygon count, lighting techniques, and the like, that would be factual and, consequently, unbiased. But the moment you introduce things like "I like this" or "this was short for the asking price" and so on, it's biased. It's a nice thought, but objectivity in reviewing is not really feasible. I would gladly read your reviews and value your opinions if you could substantiate your statements, mate. But you should accept that it's not unbiased. That's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of because it can't really be done.

Actually, there is one type of review in this industry that I would say has the potential to be unbiased: hardware. But if you go into how intuitive something is, it is tainted and becomes biased.

$9.99 for 2 hours of content that should have already been in the game. Nah, doesn't seem worth it. Id like to see the ending of the story they set up on the base game, but $9.99 is too much.

Dark_Knightmare22386d ago

The story they told in the base game did have an ending while setting up the sequel so I don’t know what you’re going on about

UCForce2386d ago

@SolidGamerX Not just Spider Man. Every PS4 Exclusive games that he downplayed.

bigmalky2386d ago

Jinger doesn't own a PS4.

UCForce2386d ago

@DetectiveRookE You know that you would get banned again, right ? No one will take you seriously.

UCForce2386d ago

@DetectiveRookE It’s not that really. You were a spammer and I was the one who report you for spamming back in 2015 when you lost your mind.

Jinger2386d ago

Lol no it didn't. The story in the main game only set up her heist or do you not remember what you played? You had to find all her clues to her big heist, but the "end" was a trick to throw you off. You find out she got her suit back and escaped and then it just ends... now the DLC pops up to finish that story about the heist.

@the rest of you guys

You crack me up. I of course have a PS4, in fact I have a Pro and a PSVR. I've owned every Sony console. Just because I don't love everyone one of their games and dont support this DLC apparently makes me a troll. I loved Spider-Man, easily my game of the year.

Kribwalker2386d ago

lol, you guys are funny. He doesn’t agree with our hive mind opinion so he has to be lying/making things up/ pretending to own a ps4 (really, who would honestly do that).

I agree with ginger and would look at this like it’s not a great deal. $10 for a 2 hour story? that others have also said before they wished was in the game at launch? Unless the other MTs are better, i’d save my money or wait for a half price sale

rainslacker2386d ago

Thanks for the spoiler alert there jinger.

People like Jinger has never played the game and IF Black cat was included in the game people like him would have said "Black Cat deserve separate story" .. "Such Magnificent character was ignored" .. blah blah!!

Trolls Trolling themselves... NOICE!!

UCForce2386d ago

It’s seem like that.

Jinger2386d ago

I have played the game. Close to 100% in fact. What's your evidence behind this bull crap claim? Or are you just upset because I'm calling out this dumb DLC?

I'm sorry but this 2 hours should have already been there after you track down her heist clues. The base game story just ends, and now in have to pay the money to finish it. I call bull on that. I absolutely love this game, bit I'm not paying $10 just for the 2 hours conclusion of her story that should have been in the base game.

Ceaser98573612386d ago

Jinger.

Its difficult to upset me.. You have a notion of downplaying and lying.. So Troll elsewhere..

Jinger2386d ago

Lol I'm not trying to upset you. You're the one making baseless claims that I haven't played the game. I'm just expressing my opinion and y'all are the ones getting upset about it and making up lies to discredit my opinion.

Expressing a not positive opinion about an iffy DLC = trolling.

Okay.

Would It be nice if there was more than 2-3 hours, sure, and the "ending" to the main story is not meant to be wrapped up in a few short hours, not even the 6-8 that the entire DLC collection will most likely offer. Really, think about the events within in the last hour of the game, and their consequences...you really want all of that to be summed-up and put into a small package that you would need to pay additional for -- versus additional side stories to add depth to what is already a great game? The fall-out from the ending is cooking-up some incredibly complex situations for Peter/Spider-Man; I'll let them give me more of his world, while they storyboard and prep for an excellent squeal.

Jinger2386d ago

Im all for expanding the game if it is worth it or it's adding something COMPLETELY new to the game. For instance if there is a Mysterio DLC I'll absolutely buy that, but this black cat DLC just feels like they cut out the second half of her story and are now selling it.

It's like if they cut out Task Masters fight. You go through all the work of doing his tasks, he keeps teasing this big confrontation. Buuut the actual conclusion is a $10 DLC. Now, I'm sure this 2 hours is much more in depth than the Task Master fight, but that's what it feels like. You track her down, this big heist is teased, but now I have to pay to see the end. I love the game, but this just doesn't sit right with me.

Kribwalker2386d ago

It sounds more like a Micro transaction then a DLC expansion. I haven’t played spider-man yet, but i’m feeling like I might wait for a game of the year version that includes all of the DLC when i’m gonna buy it. Maybe get the whole story for $79.99 and not have to pay extra to get it

Jinger2386d ago

Honestly it's a fantastic game. The side stuff would seem tedious if not for the fantastic traversal. If you love Spider-Man than I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

And as far as these DLC, I'm hoping the others are a bit more worth it, but the base game itself is already a ton of fun.

GaboonViper2386d ago

I think its best to wait for the GOTY edition.
