Riding on Nintendo's coat-tails might not be the silliest idea.
An annual 900$/€ smartphone, with a single stick that no one will ever use. What does this have to do with the switch ?
It's because Huawei specifically compared this to the Switch during a presentation.
Well, you’ll need a Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong,.....and about 100 years of experience of toy/video game design to grab the Nintendo crown
Not impossible but insanely difficult.
Nobody can compete with Nintendo in the handheld market.
It's about time someone challenged Nintendo Huawei could do it if they market well enough.
I’m sorry but I’d rather have gaming companies such as Sony and MS challenging Nintendo rather than a chinese phone company.
There a ways away from marketing this well. The price alone will turn a lot of people away. Huawei, while having plenty of quality products, doesn't have the name recognition as other companies in their market. The thing with this though is they're not marketing a game console. They're marketing a phone.
If I were Huawei and was dead serious about going against Nintendo(they better be simce they directly compared their phone with the Switch), I'd certainly call Sony or EA or both and have a chat about making a deal for developing some ports or even exclusives for their device to go up against big N...and I'd pay the crap out of them if that's what it took to get me in the game.
Their best bet would be to go all in, and actually make an effort in the console market(portable in this case), and not just try to capture some of that market on a device which is meant for a completely different market. Biggest reason for this is that there is nothing that really defines it as a portable system, nor is there much to it that is much different than any other cell phone, except maybe the controller thingy.
I'd believe Nintendo making a smartphone before a no name company successfully enters the gaming console space.
If they have great developers and get triple A third part support I'm on.
When Arena of Valor is your showcase game, you’ll know what kind of game you are going to play on this “gaming” phone.
What is the point in playing on a cell phone with half a controller?
Only Sony made a dent (small) in Nintendo's handheld market. It's going to be the 30th anniversary of the GameBoy next year and for 30 years Nintendo dominated the handheld market.
As much as I'd like someone, to take on Nintendo, Huwawei don't have a chance. Hardware might be better, but they won't be able to compete with Nintendo controlers and games. For me Nintendo switch is to expensive at £270 I'm defentily not spending that on a phone.. £1000 to play android games no thanks.
