JTGA: The Surge was already a tough excursion, an exercise in patience, repetition, and learning enemy attack patterns. It felt like a good old fashioned slog, where death has consequences and your innate sense of exploration is richly rewarded. So we’ve got to hand it to Deck13 Interactive; this feels like a premium expansion in every respect. At face value, it would be easy to dismiss as a simple ‘challenge mode’ variant, but this has been made with a lot of love.
Paul writes - "After seeing the base game release back in 2017, Deck 13 have released more content for The Surge. Called The Good, the Bad and the Augmented, it is a series of Western themed rooms that are secreted deep in the bowels of the CREO facility and it has a real Spaghetti Western feel. Promising new outfits and weapons to be unlocked and crafted as you progress through the series of rooms, is this DLC too little, too late or the shot in the arm that The Surge needs? Strap on a stetson and let’s find out."
"Having a series of increasingly difficult fights would be great and all, but the main deal with The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented is that it gets really repetitive pretty quickly." - Eduardo Reboucas, Entertainium
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "For those who've been playing The Surge since it launched last year, this latest DLC is worth trying; it provides exciting rewards and new opportunities to dismember murderous enemies. However, due to an anticlimactic story and some recycled stages and bosses, those looking to experience the Souls-like piecemeal should probably invest only in the original and A Walk in the Park."
