Twinfinite writes "Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a different sort of RPG that makes rival feel clunky by comparison, except when it comes to combat."
This is on my radar, for sure. Think it'll be the first one in AC series I actually buy.
The term RPG is thrown around too loosely nowadays, the genre is probably the most diverse one already thanks to the likes of ARPG, JRPG, SRPG/TRPG. Odyssey is an ARPG, though some would debate action-adventure with RPG elements. It also has the benefit of being a lot newer than all those other games, of course it's going to feel more fluid. However navigation of its world feels the way it does thanks to its action-adventure roots. It's a little unfair of a comparison.
It actually does come under RPG genre as this time the choices have consequences and the story has multiple endings based on you choices. Origins was action-adventure with RPG elements but Odyssey has become full fledged RPG like witcher 3.
Imo horizon is still better
Is the action in AC Odyssey really like the Dark Souls series or are his hit boxes a little off and vague?
I don't like there is no block button. Having a shield in Origins gave me more options during combat. It also looked cool when he was getting rid of arrows. I find combat to be a stepdown from Origins. I love Sparta Kick though. Classic.
AC makes the The Witcher and Bloodborne feel clunky? ummm...... Ok?
The witcher made itself feel clunky it had nothing to do with odyssey. I love Witcher 3 hell the whole series and it’s one of the best games ever made but the combat is pretty bad and clunky as is controlling roach and simply walking or running around
I agree. Even after "alternative movement" patch, the game was still clunky. The game had strengths, but gameplay was not one of them.
It makes sense on the Witcher part of the argument (since the game was clunky)...but Bloodborne? hell no
My feelings so far is that the combat isn't as good. I'm not too far into the story at all (mostly because I have a habit in this game where I do everything but the main story until I can't do anything else), but my character is at level 24/25. Admittedly, that could be because stuff simply hasn't unlocked for me since I haven't progressed enough in the story, though.
The combat looks ridiculously clunky.
