My dream is for Team Ninja to stop concentrating on the women, the ridiculous amount of micro transactions and get down to making and improving the fight engine and the fight genre. I was a VF, SF, MK, DOA,TK, etc fan for decades. But they just aren't moving forward. Same games with the same gameplay. With graphics being the only improvement.

We have faster processing for games to look and play like the movies Fist of Legend, Ip Man, Enter the Dragon, etc. with that atmosphere that goes with it. Like how Ghost of Tsushima is trying with that battle under the tree with all the red leaves. Where's that feel from fighting games? Why all the senseless juggling? DOA has the potential because of the counter system. I just want more from Team Ninja.

They also have the dream of rereleasing the same game over many platforms, or sometimes on the same platform, often with new updates or characters aren't on other systems or releases, so I'm curious how that dream fits in with the cross play dream, since some of those changes would preclude parts of the market from actually playing together.

Otherwise, Im pretty content with the game play itself. It was solid already, and I'd rather they stick to it than try and make it into something different. But I do agree that they are focusing heavily on improved visuals more it seems.

I have to ask at this point:

Is Sony going to make Yohei Shimbori's dreams come true, or is Fortnite going to be the only game that cross console play works on? Rocket League is still dreaming about cross console play...

Its in beta. Why would Sony have a beta, with an announcement for the actual feature, if they didn't plan to open it up.

Also, on April 1st, there was a new compliance standard updated for their system. Within it, the new networking API's had several unspecified features that the devs had to adhere to to release their games after that date. One was the name change thing. Of the other two, one is presumed to be the cross play feature. The third....I have no idea, and won't even fathom a guess. Unspecified compliance standards get added in when they need to have those things implemented by devs, but don't want those features to leak out ahead of time.

When its out of beta, or decided to go ahead, they'll release the acceptance of the feature, with what I can only assume with be the same guidelines that exist for their other cross play implementations.

You may be right, but at this point all I've heard about being tested in beta is Fortnite. We'll just have to see how Sony intends to handle games like Rocket League, Fallout 76, DOA 6, and others that also want to implement the feature once it's out of beta and accessible to everyone.

Well. It's been like two weeks. How many companies state what will happen later before a beta is even finished? At best, they'll have some non-commital reference to them opening it up later at an unspecified date.

Given Sony's usually MO, I'd say that once they are happy with the results of the beta, assuming that's the case and any major issues that are found are fixed, or adjustments made, they will open up the API to other companies that want to use it.

I can't think of a single instance where Sony has given permission for one company to do something, then denied to any other. in perpetuity Generally, when they make a new policy, it is applicable to anyone using their system and meeting their compliance standards. For all of Sony's strict adherence to compliance standards, they are at least equitable in the distribution of those standards. If other games aren't allowed to use this feature, then it's likely they'll pull the feature from Fortnite as well.

Keep in mind, this is a beta for MS as well. They would have had to agree with it also. Sony and MS would have had to come to this implementation working together for a consistent API that was agreeable to both. If MS finds something during this time they aren't happy with, they are probably well within their rights to deny future cross play features as well. Sony isn't steering the ship here, they're working with other console makers to make it happen. Regardless of who may have been a hold out in the past, they are working together now....at least on this feature.

Hopefully these guys can implement it and hopefully Sony will allow it.
