Peter Moore, the man with a plan at EA Sports, spoke to ESPN recently. Anyone who's a big fan of the Street series of games, or the millions of gamers that loved the SSX titles, should look away now. Back? Right, gotcha - we're still going to make you read this.
"We'll still do traditional sports, but we're going to do them a different way," Moore said. "Street is a good example. We built a new TheSixthAxis write: Freestyle brand to do different things, and we also need to build our own intellectual properties. We rely on other people's IP for everything we do and we need to develop some new things."
And SSX? "In the old days we had things like SSX that were our own intellectual property, but since then we've kind of moved away from that. We need a mixture of experiences that are not only for the hardcore, 'it's in the game' crowd." Doesn't sound good, but it gets worse: "If Wii Sports has taught us anything, it's that people will sit there and play big head tennis all day long."
People will, yeah, but not us, Peter, we want SSX. "We need to have something for that sports fan who might not necessarily be a sports gamer," he concludes, "but who wants that 15-minute experience without having to struggle on how to use the controller." Oh for fuck's sake.
Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”
Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.
They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.
Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?
Game Rant interviews Plants vs. Zombies composer Peter McConnell about honoring the series’ quirky roots, adapting its themes, and now going vinyl.
The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.
Celebrate Final Fantasy IX's 25th anniversary with the latest merchandise, including figurines of Zidane and Vivi, and a range of t-shirts.
Shame, i enjoyed SSX. Vey fun game.
EA droping the SSX IP has made baby Jesus cry.
Dropping the Street series has made baby Jesus happy.
I loved SSX! Those comments made me worried for the hardcore sports gamer.
Not interested in a brandid snowboarding game like Shaun White.
Looks like the 360 exclusive "Stoked" is the boarding game I'm picking up this year.
By far the best sport series on the PS2 generation. Simply amazing and far ahead of its time, Shaun White's snowboarding dosn't look like it can match up to my SSX level expectations.
Its Tricky Tricky Tricky!
Played and beat the game with every player... TWICE!
Its unfortunate that the just had blur recently...
SSX rules! One of my favorite games ever!
Better than any Tony Hawk game i have everr played. Hell ever downhill domination is better than tony hawk.
Anyways, this is very unfortunate! I well done SSX game would be very welcomed, instead of some of the new crap EA dishes out. SSX at least has a following.
