“Good job Phil and Xbox Team!”

Say what?

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 82,303,287

PlayStation 4 – Down Year-on-Year 1,749,760 (-16.1%)
PlayStation Vita – Down Year-on-Year 383,779 (-68.0%)

So yeah, "Good job Phil and Xbox Team!”

The point here is that MS is showing improvements. No one expects an XB1 come from behind victory over PS4. These are indicative of improvements in the Xbox brand which give MS the ability to compete better come next gen though, and you should acknowledge that instead of trying to downplay MS' successes all the time.

“The point here is that MS is showing improvements”

Up form their worst year to date. So that’s not saying much

TheCommentator10d ago

It's not saying much for Sony that PS4 sales are down 20% then either...

I’m pretty sure PS4 sales have peaked. They’re nearing 100 million consoles.

Although Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us: Part 2 will move some consoles for sure.

PlayStation 2 = 155 million sold

Xbox + X360 + Xbone = 150 million sold

King_Noctis12d ago

What does the PS2 have anything to do with this article?

CarlDechance12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Last place second year in a row. The competition is doubling and almost tripling Xbox in sales

Great job Phil?

lol Sony still kicking butt... Even though xbox sales are up they are still losing to PS4 each month lol

Despite the slow sales on the PS4, SONY is DECIMATING the XBOX like no tomorrow. With games like TLU2, Ghost of Tsushima and Days Gone the PS4 have a life at THE END OF THE GENERATION. No console had performed this well during the ending period of a generation except the PS2.

Sony is sending XBOX to the coffin and throwing it to the Pacific Sea. By this numbers any investor will bet on SONY PS franchise. For example Disney, Marvel and many other multi million dollar enterprises. Can any of you imagine what would have been a Star Wars Battlefront in the hand of Insomniac and Sony?

The XBOX proved to be a media console instead of a gaming console. These numbers where expected because Microsoft is not interested in delivering a machine. THEY ARE FOCUSED ON GAAS and services. That was and still is their agenda from day one.

Let us look at the numbers directly.

2018
PS4 55.5%
XBOX 14.1%
Switch 30.3%

2017
PS4 46.2.%
XBOX 16.8%
Switch 37.0%

Total numbers
Ps4 82,747,049 58.37%
Xbox 38,884,018 27.4%
Switch 20,405,682 14.4%

The PS4 is on an endless overhead of surplus. Their economical gain is so substantial that they are recuperating from the uncomfortable economy of the PS3. They are loaded with money for the PS5. They built the userbase, the brand exclusive games, the in house developers, the services and the strategy to keep the momentum on the PS5. Off the bat they will start doing backward compatibility.

Any investor will take the risk with Sony not the XBOX. New fresh ideas for gaming will happen on Sony not the XBOX. That's what such numbers says. There is no way to turn the dime, move the goal poles or spin such reality. It is what it is.

Simple.

The entire Xbox management team need to be fired. And those old people at Microsoft headquarters need to be replaced.

Kernel2211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Agree completely.

Nadella needs to review the Microsoft Game division. But here is the problem. It's Microsoft philosophy that needs to change and adapt.

Bill Gates: "Don't sell the product that people wants, make the people buy the product that you sell"

That type of pigheaded mentality is what puts Microsoft in low numbers. Microsoft has access to MIT students, they have access to 'wizard kids' and script kiddies. The problem is how they see business. Sony see business as a trade of goods while Microsoft sees business as Min-Max optimization of investments. Microsoft wants to sell games as a service and services all the time.

A game division runs with satisfaction of your customers and quality. Microsoft is way too stingy with lots of avarice. They do not want to risk and spend on game developers and game engines.

Believe me they will not change. The ones who needs to change is us. We have to get the better bargain and support the companies that makes it better.
