New York is no match for Liberty City.
Honestly never cared for LC. San Andreas > Vice City > Liberty City On an micro level, I even preferred Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas. Only time I got a kick out of LC was when you flew there for a story mission in SA. Tapped out again during Ballad of Gay Tony.
This is a stupid subject... really stupid. A watchdogs vs gta map would make sense. Comparing a game where you spend 90% of your time high above ground vs another that has you walking/driving 99.9% of the time! And lets not forget that R* has unlimited budget, time and hundreds of employees to make such detailed worlds.
Which is why it's so amazingly ironic that GTA V's world is so bare-bones and empty. How many building interiors are actually in the game? Five? It seems like every game they make is smaller and less impressive than the last, and yet each release makes exponentially more money than the last.
Because both game are set in a fictional New York city? And no, no devs ever have “unlimited” budget.
Riz - I think companies get too carried away with the idea of having the "biggest" map, and it seems 'none' actually try to make it the most detailed. Allowing every building to be entered.. I'd rather have a smaller map, where I can explore in, out and around rather than just out and around. But, that's just me..
It’s like comparing Dark souls to Devil may cry, they are two different games. This article is pointless, I guess people got tired of b1tching about spider cop so now aiming for the city 🤷🏽♂️
Man I loved Spider Cop. Thought the same thing though. Can't just take a great game for what it is can we. I do agree in some sense. Even though they share an open world environment they are two completely different beasts. GTA you are constantly driving around the city w/ some running. The only time I spent on the ground in Spiderman was when I was fighting. Rather, when I was doing side missions or in mission where stealth wasn't readily available. This game, rather Spiderman in general, is about web swinging across the city traversing between and over buildings. Let's also not forget Liberty City isn't restricted to one borough of New York. Still it's pretty pathetic all the BS noise that comes with games nowadays. Play it, enjoy it and give credit on it's own merits.
Good article, if not entirely fair to Spider-man. Spider-man is fundamentally different, in that you are not primarily walking (or driving) around the city. You are mostly above the city streets literally swinging from the roof-tops, but even here, there are enough landmarks that you can pick out and use to navigate around town. Saying that though, I have to give R* major props for GTA3. It completely blew me away when it released, there was nothing like it, and I remember the hype for that game was even more than for RDR2 (because lawyers were calling for it to be banned, and it was on the news and everything) - and when it released it completely eclipsed anything that came before.
I didn't feel that way when GTA3 released. I couldn't enjoy it. Even back then, I knew that the game simply wasn't good to play, mechanically. The idea of those gameplay mechanics sounded fun, but actually doing them was banal somehow. The shooting was boring with that lock on mechanic, the driving was floaty and stiff, even moving the character around felt strange. Regardless of it being a technical feat, I had played other games before it that used similar ideas or mechanics and delivered on them better, like Midtown Madness on PC (these people actually created the GTA engine), or any number of third person action games that delivered a more satisfying combat experience. The only GTA I could get into was 5 (the re-release), because the actual gameplay was finally to par with the rest of the presentation.
I was blown away when GTA3 released. It was shocking seeing an open world that size, at the time.
You forgot they're two different games, no need for your pointless article to try and belittle Spider-Man
Or "What PC gamer forgot what was in in Spider-Man and forgotten in GTA"?
Was anyone actually attempting to compare Grand Theft Auto to Spider-man? Since the answer is obviously NO, then what exactly is the point of this article?
to keep the wheel of salt running bash exclusive->BC->xplay(not anymore i guess)->then back at bashing exclusive again
Spiderman and GTA are two different games entirely. Tyler Treese, trying to belittle the success of a great game will not change the outstanding performance of Insomniac performance. They took note from Rocksteady's Batman Arkham Knight extending the winning formula to newer heights. That doesn't make Spiderman less relevant. On the contrary, updating a great formula with newer gameplay and delivering a completely new experience out of it is a great feat on itself. Tyler Treese, the comparison doesn't fit because these games have different approaches. Rockstar makes good game, everybody knows this but why compare two different games, what for? Look at the PS4 library. God of War IV, Spider Man, Horizon Zero Down and Frozen Wilds among many other titles like Bloodburne. Why not enjoy the great performance of the game and leave these odd comparisons for later. Rarely we see great games like Spiderman happening. Marvel, Sony and Insomniac proved to be an outstanding winning team.
If this was also on x1 90% of these dumbass articles wouldn't exist
There is nothing special about GTA III's Liberty City. You can't even tell it's New York, and the game world feels dead. GTA IV was like night and day. Why you wouldn't use that as reference is a little strange. That said, really odd comparing a game on rooftops to a game made from the ground up to have a living street-level feel.
You need to understand that GTA3 is a product of it's time. Regardless of the article, when GTA3 released there was nothing like it. It may suck now but back then it was phenomenal.
This was a really dumb comparison
Can you imagine what Spiderman hijacking a car looks like?
Similar to when you take down cars in crime events, I'd imagine
The comparison between gta and Spider-Man is stupid. Personally I’d rather play Spider-Man than any gta game. I don’t see what the fuss is about with gta 5. The multiple protagonist thing just didn’t work for me. Either way comparing Spider-Man to gta is like comparing a platformer to a moba.
I could never get into GTA games. I've played them since GTA2, typically for the story, and while they aren't bad games...although the mechanics can sometimes be wonky....I can never do much more than the main story. A couple of theside games had really good stories though. GTA is extremely popular though, and I won't take away from that popularity, but I never understood how it rose to that popularity, because the fuss about it's violence way back in the day was only part of it.
Cheat codes? Ever spawn 100 tanks with low gravity watching police cars flying every where blowing up?
I know Spider-man was one of the only open world games where I didn’t want to use fast travel. And how the hell do you praise AC for its level of detail and not Spider-man? This article is ridiculous
how could spider-man forget about Liberty City!!! Wtf the game is only like 20 years old
Its not that they forgot, its a different game and they both work very well.
So we are comparing Rockstar that has had decades to perfect their third person formula with the GTA series to Insomniacs first crack at an open world game with Spiderman, yup that sounds pretty fair and legit. LOL
Spiderman shouldn't even care about Liberty City?
Stupid. Spider-Man didn't forget anything. It's also infinitely better than any GTA game.
