I really looks forward to what Sony’s first party studios pull off with PS5.

I also expect PSVR to be a centric part of the PS5 design. I’m sure it will see a huge boost in visuals and realism.

steven83r2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

Doesn't really matter what power is pushing the PSVR, it won't help visuals much. The lenses are the problem. Just look at Vive/Rift attached to powerful PC's. Still get crap draw distance limited FOV and screen door effect. Give it 10 more years.

DarkVoyager2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

It doesn’t need 10 years. It’s more about the experience than just visuals alone.

The new Astro Bot: Rescue Mission coming to PSVR looks amazing.

sampsonon2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

doesn't matter Firewall Zero Hour is the best shooter in vr.

rainslacker2035d ago

Not really. If you look at higher res videos that get downsampled for PSVR, then you'll see it look almost lifelike. There is some hatching, but that will likely be lessened with new displays as LED technology just keeps getting cheaper. For the most part, outside of adding in wireless or a few more motion controls within the headset, there isn't much that will likely cause ti to get too expensive to just improve the parts that are there, and hopefully make the unit a bit smaller. The better and possibly bigger screens will address the limited FOV and screen door effect.

The draw distances are definitely an application of software, and what can be drawn with the available GPU, and has nothing to do with the displays themselves.

kneon2035d ago

it won't take 10 years. draw distance is a function of the power of the machine driving the vr. the screen door effect is already gone in higher end vr. it won't take long for those display to make it to the consumer level devices. FOV will improve as the cost of the larger displays needed comes down

Dragonscale2034d ago (Edited 2034d ago )

@steven, your talking current psvr which is great btw. No doubt psvr 2 will improve everything and with the power of PS5 will no doubt be awesome. VR is here to stay and will obviously improve in time, it will be a lot less than 10 years fgs lol.

Vizigoth042034d ago

But if you do nothing with the tech now then in 10 years this is where it will still be. Companies have to sell the products that work now to make better in the future.

Kingthrash3602034d ago

It's not only the hardware....its the devs, their talent level and the type of game they intend to make....

Sony Exclusives are close to that already, makes you wonder what there exclusives will look like on ps5.

Nitrowolf22035d ago

Going back in airplane some of the PS3 games like kill zone two and three are the in charted series I just blows my mind even to this day with how good it graphically those games looked

Minute Man 7212035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

Sony exclusives look good but not photorealism good. Pass what you smoking. Disagree if you know I'm telling the truth

Darth Gamer2035d ago

45 yrs old here and still live playing. Own all the consoles. But I still remember playing on my Atari 2600. Loved it back then. I remember saving up all my birthday money etc to buy the original NES. Good times.

sprinterboy2035d ago

I'm 42yrs old and been playing games since the beginning with atari 2100 with games like pong, pacman, missile command etc 1982 ( I was 7yrs old)

Computer wise amstrad cpc 464 was my first ever computer, games like spanner man, dizzy, 3d grand prix (how many hrs) gauntlet, gazza super soccer etc 1984.
I know it's seems soppy but it brings a tear to my eye the evolution of games.

Its amazing how far we have come and we're truly blessed in our medium of story telling, physics, gameplay etc. I'm old school and I still play games with review scores of 5/10 or buy just off the cover art and description of a game.

PS5 is scary awesome with what Sony 1st party have done this gen, hzd, spiderman, detroit, DC, everybody's golf, uncharted, gow, gts, crash, last guardian, until dawn and the order as examples.
Great 3rd party also with games like fc5, sniper elite, sherlock Holmes, metro, wolfeinstein, south park, prey, golf club to name a few.
Let's not forget the proper vr games resident evil, moss, chess vr (chess in hell against the grim reaper is awesome) star trek with 4 players (under rated) Wipeout, fated the silent oath, hatsune miku.
Great vr experiences like YouTube short vr movies (people seriously need to watch the short movie with godzilla vr) porn, arkam, gts, last guardian, job sims, transference, chernobyl, the lost bear (classic) to namea few.
Indie games like resogun, bound, valiants heart, nex Machina, this is the police, lara Croft go, layers of fear, gone home, the bunker, among the sleep, walking dead (season one ending wow) life is strange to name a few.
Nxt gen will be amazing is what I'm trying to say, resident evil in vr has been my number 1 game this gen from a game immersion point of view and playing different to anything I've ever played or experienced b4, yes spider, gow, detroit are awesome too but res wins it for me from a shit I better take this off for a hr and chill for a bit because it's that intense in vr.

windblowsagain2035d ago

I'm 45. lol.

I remember those games, plus the arcade games i love. Bombjack. Supersprint. Those were the days.:)

Heck I even knew when fruit machines were going to pay out. So much has changed!

CPC464 was awesome. I used to have a this.

No google lol. So slow to amazing as well. Dial up and speaking to people in other countries over a bbs.:)

MWH2035d ago

Nice to know there are elder gamers around here.

Pickledpepper2034d ago

I still own all my consoles, atari 2600, up to present day lol. You said you had an amstrad cpc464, I had a spectrum 48k then 128k, you and I would not have been friends at school pmsl

OG_TK_Cole2034d ago

Im 42 as well so I definitely understand where you are coming from. Video games have definitely come a long way since we were kids.

PSVR is dead. No one cares anymore.

KickSpinFilter2035d ago

So wrong with the launch of Firewall Zero Hour and other up coming games it's just starting to come in to it's own.

ps5fanboy2034d ago

Vr , less 8k , least 4 , ultra wide screen ,with feedback gloves , and focus tracking , n wireless of course ,forget it, makes you ill , and underwelmed

Vizigoth042034d ago

Not sure why your getting the downvotes. But I agree with you. Especially in the third and fourth year of PS5 games built from the ground up. I think Sony will have to balance how they do things if they intend to make them PS4 titles too. Maybe have a standard with new games coming 1080p 30fps for PS4, 4K 30fps for PS4 pro and 4K 60fps for PS5. Also VR should integrate well with PS5. PSVR can maybe go wireless via remote play or feature it's own computing functions versus the PS5 doing it. Sony has to be smart to innovate while not leaving out their fans who still Support playing on a TV. I trust them to continue their first party strength too.

crazyCoconuts2035d ago

You can usually predict the gaming bolt articles from the title alone.

frostypants2034d ago (Edited 2034d ago )

Right?! It's painful. How to write a FailingBolt headline:

[Obscure dev of obscure game] [thinks/hopes/says] [flamebait/clickbait/insipid and weak generality].

Why do people even agree to be interviewed by these hacks? They blatantly ask suggestive questions to generate the desired headline. It's bad journalism.

And who DOESN'T "hope" we reach photorealism next gen? And it's all relative...some games two gens ago sure seemed photorealistic compared to previous games, but the needle moves as people acclimate and the shortcomings get more discernible. If we're talking real time graphics that are 100% indistinguishable from real life, we're ages away, and next gen won't be even close.

annoyedgamer2035d ago

much sensationalize, so clickbait, wow

2035d ago
steven83r2035d ago

Stupid. I won't even click on this garbage. The most powerful GPU's today cannot do photo realism. What makes them think PS5/X2 with a GPU on par with say a GTX 1050 can? Now photo realistic CGI cut scene sure.

rainslacker2035d ago

Because people seem to have different levels of acceptance for what is photoreal.

Technically speaking, film grain is nowhere near what is capable with a GPU. But a GPU isn't as good at softening the image like film grain is.

More technically, there really is nothing that determines what is photoreal, because even photos can vary wildly in quality and appearance based on the camera, the film, and the development process(or photoshopping type stuff for the case of digital photos).

frostypants2034d ago (Edited 2034d ago )

You nailed it. This SAME discussion happened before the PS2/Xbox gen, the PS3/Xbox 360 gen, etc. People are blind to ever changing standards. LITERAL, REAL TIME photorealism isn't even on the horizon in general, much less on consumer hardware.

BioNeo2035d ago (Edited 2035d ago )

Ignoring the photo Realism, Xbox one x GPU is better than a gtx 1050. PS5 and next Xbox won't be weaker than any console they have out now. Expect something above gtx 1080 but will always be below the latest flag ship gpus
