GamesRadar: 8-Bit Levels in LittleBigPlanet

From the moment GamesRadar first learned that LittleBigPlanet would enable players to create their own semi-2D levels, something weird and obsessive went to work in the back of their heads. How feasible might it be, the thing thought, to take old-school games and remake them using the level-creation tools? It couldn't be that hard, right? After all, those old games were so simple.

how do you put a picture of Donkey Kong on there? Wouldn't that be infringment or copyright violation?

I hope they don't take it too seriously and just let people do whatever they want in LBP.

That's not Donkey Kong, it could just be any gorrilla throwing barrels.

But like maps/mods everything else, as long as you don't try to SELL the copyright image/likeness, you are in no trouble with the intellectual property.

I'm sure LBP will bring up a few lawsuits, the game is too new and huge.

makes you wonder why no one ever sued Gary's Mod/Epic/hl2(any game with from scratch content)

Will be interesting to see.

"That's not Donkey Kong, it could just be any gorrilla throwing barrels."

Copy right laws prevent that. If you're level looks exactly like Donkey Kong, with extremely similar characters, then it's copy right infringement.

Not that it's a big deal in LBP, but I thought I'd make this clear.

Recreating 8bit games part for part is stupid, using the technology to ENHANCE the levels would have been much cooler.

lol, I was thinking the same thing it's cool to have the 8-bit look, but I would have liked it to be more challenging.

The draw of LBP is emulation stuff from 20+ years ago.

What is more entertaining is reading all your comments in the style of Cartman from Southpark.

Boy those were lame ol' levels. The gameplay in them almost put me to sleep; it was almost as if I was watching the wii being played. Same effect, tiredness.

Armyless4278d ago (Edited 4278d ago )

don't watch first-try levels these kids come up with that scream to their mums, "look what I can do!" Aren't you proud of me?"

No the real levels don't just push the limits in shaping games to mimic other games, great levels invent a NEW WAY of seeing things, admire it, and get your butt in here and play around a little before the cold breeze catches you outside.

That was one of my biggest gripes with the beta, the levels was just dreadful including the ones that came with the beta.
