LucasArts online head Tom Nichols has told VG247 that upcoming BioWare MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is a PC-only game, ostensibly conflicting a report that the title is in consideration for console release.
As a PC gamer I would like to say Lucasarts can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I am not giving this pathetic company any more of my money.
At least it gives a slight glimmer of hope for quality. Being on consoles is like a death sentence for a game being good these days.
It might bring down the graphics a bit but expanding the audience to 360/PS3 players won't bring the quality down, it'll expand it. I would love to see this on consoles.
Please explain how the quality of a PC game is raised when it is also released for X-Box 360 and PS3. Also, I'd like your explanation to be followed by real examples. I give you two exaples where the quality of a game has suffered, because it was also developped for consoles: - Assassin's Creed - Far Cry 2
Console gamers should feel........shyteed on
Makes sense. I was explaining to a guy how hard I think a good MMO would be to do on console. If they made all consoles Mouse and Keyboard compatable with periferals of your choice. VOIP would be a pain... Vent and Team Speak make it that much easier...
I will get it for PC then along with a copy of Gears of War 2 which should be out at the same time
....too bad I would have picked it up but I guess I will pass.
There really isn't any excuse for the game to be PC only. Any advantage PCs had in the past that made them great for MMOs can now be found on consoles (ie. keyboard/mouse support, hard drive, online connectivity). Xbox Live's server restrictions could get in the way, but MS let S-E bypass that with FFXI. Also, once you have a PC game developed, there's not too much more that needs to be done to get it running on 360 other than some obvious memory/gpu/cpu optimizations. There should be no issues with a PS3 version either other than having to do some separate coding. I think EQOA and FFXI worked just fine on PS2 and True Fantasy Live Online would have been great on Xbox.
Obvoiusly there are some pretty convincing reasons to not put on consoles that you're missing or else Lucasarts would put this on the PS3/360 without question.
Yeah from a business perspective they may feel that it just won't sell as well on consoles, but my main point is that there aren't any real technical limitations to making the game multiplatform.
Well lucasarts isnt making the game bioware is so can you really trust what this guy is saying ? I dont know how much lucasarts are involved with the game
PikkonX there is no technical reason why lots of console exclusive games can't be on the PC but guess what .... that's right the PC never sees them. Personally I lost all respect for Lucasarts when they started spouting crap about how you need a $4,000 PC to run force unleashed. The company no longer has a clue about anything and like I said they can take their franchise and shove it in the same place George Lucas seems to have his head a lot these days. I think you can guess what part of the anatomy I mean.
@ PikkonX: While the technical limits are theoretically broken, you have to ask: how many console gamers own a keyboard/mouse, and how well would a game that REQUIRES them be accepted on the console market? The answers on these questions were probably the reason why it's PC-only. I guess it works the same way with some gamepad-optimized titles that don't get ported to PC.
How on earth is there a single disagree with what I said. Lol @ console fanboys.
BUY A PC FOR THIS GAME I DONT CARE
Quit milking the cow Lucas
have fun getting your *ss handed by the pirates. Have fun losing money.
In case you didn't get the memo, MMOs are nearly invulnerable to piracy.
Hasn't made a good game in a while. I wouldn't expect anything good out of this one anyway. Oh yeah, wheres Battlefront 3 anyway?
But Bioware has, and they're making this game... So, why are you talking about Lucasarts...
http://www.frd.co.uk/game6/... <<< BattleFront 3 is coming. Just give it about 5-6 months then it will be unveiled as well. Probably GDC 2009 or E3 2009. They have kept it under wraps for about 2 years now and the third year is 2009 so it should be released in 2009 with some details coming soon.
We have been hearing company's lie to us. Next we flame these boards and complain. Here is why it will come. While "Force Unleashed" received horrible rating and was hated by millions the crap sold a lot. On consoles might I add. If you have a MMO coming out and you see WOW has been kicking the hell out of everyone else and you see you have console user playing your games you won't pass up on the money. Stockholder will rip there heads off. Secondly is Star Trek and Star Gate MMO coming out. These game will screw up user bases and remember WOW is out and may have another expansion dropping hurting you more. There are more reasons but these are why they have too. If they don't then they will turn into another Age of Conan. And I promise EA/Bioware ain't going to let Lucasarts screw up EA's record of releasing a game for every and any platform they can get there games on.
The PC market for MMORPGs is big enough to justify an exclusive title. Also, a Star Wars MMORPG doesn't directly compete with WoW, because of the different setting and the Star Wars franchise. I can see many WoW-Players also playing a Star Wars MMORPG.
I was thinking the exact same thing, dam it i want my battlefront 3 now!!!!!
It's been how many years now away? They sure are taking their sweet time.
All I ever wanted was KOTOR III and Lucasarts AND Bioware give me this s*it! And why does it look worse then KOTOR 1?
lucas art pc gamers dont want you any more
Lucasarts needs to get Raven Software to make the next Force Unleashed or a new Jedi Knight game. Their previous Jedi Knight games were the best and still are the best. They play better than the Force Unleashed.
But I just don't want to put money into a game every month that I will only have a limited time to play. But I may change my mind though. I could potentially get into this more than I did WoW, and be willing to put the time in.
