Limiting cloud saves on some Switch games means I won't buy them

Andrew Gonzalez from Nintendo Enthusiast talks about his issue with how Nintendo is treating Cloud Savings on Switch, and why he won't support games on the console that don't use the feature.

Not having system wide cloud saves isn’t the only issue. People aren’t able to even back up their saves onto local storage like you can with every other gaming system.

Not only is Nintendo making people pay a premium just to backup saves, it won’t even be a feature supported by every game. That’s really low for Nintendo and can’t be defended.

Not that i disagree with it being dumb, but since when was $20 considered a premium price?
$60 would be a premium price.
This is dirt-cheap by comparison.
Plus you get to save data on more games than not, and it's pretty much a guarantee that most third party games will tick that box before submission so you can use CS's with them; stuff like Dead Cells will be the exception, rather than the rule.

Anything over $0 is a premium price. Yeah it’s not as much as $60, but you’re still asking consumers to pay for utility.

Also if you want to bring up $60, PS+ and XBLG offer way more bang for your buck every year in terms of discounts and the free games with service. That’s more than $1000 of value per year. Nintendo’s service won’t offer Switch games monthly only NES & SNES titles, and we don’t know if it’ll offer additional digital discounts so that value is drastically lower. PS+ & XBLG are better deals in comparison for what they offer, especially when you find them on sale.

When paying for such a service no matter the amount, cloud saves should be active for every game. PS3 and then later 360 offered cloud saves 5 and 6 years after they released respectively, yet every game on them supported the feature. No reason NS, a console that released 6 years after cloud saves became standard, can’t do the same. It’s not a guaranteed feature so no use in trying to act like nearly every game will support it.

Back in the ps1 and ps2 days you used the memory card to save if that went corrupted bad for us ,if they do it ok if they dont ok I just wanna play games im so used to lose save data that I dont even care anymore about saves on the cloud (behind a pay wall).

I want to get a Switch, but sure as hell wont get one until there’s a free back up save option. I’ve already heard about some Switch’s going down and losing their save data too. I’m sure that’s a “feature”. Do you know how infuriating that would be to lose all your Smash Ultimate data after unlocking all the characters? Fuck that.

wonderfulmonkeyman2469d ago

A minority issue; 99.9% of Switch owners won't have to deal with lost data so long as they take care of their systems and don't do anything stupid, like hacking them for whatever reason and screwing something up in the process.

When did you last lose save data. Besides the point back in the day it didn’t even exsist shiiii I’ll happily play the game regardless it has a save feature my consoles not getting stolen anytime soon and I’ve never lost a game yet so my saves are fine.

Don't mind wonderfulmonkeyman. He's probably the worst fanboy on this site and he has some stiff competition.

And in other things nobody cares about, this person's hurt feelings.

KuroKiko2469d ago

I love this decision! If I can pay more for Nintendo services even if it means limited things Id be happy to give my money to them.

The_Sage2468d ago

Lol. The sarcasm is strong with this one.

Castle Cab Is a Crazy Taxi-like Co-op Game That's Coming to Switch and Steam

"Sega's Crazy Taxi is an arcade driving classic. It introduced the concept of picking up fares in a taxi and then delivering them to a destination at a breakneck pace. A few games have been inspired by Crazy Taxi, the most interesting of which has to be the upcoming Castle Cab from new indie Australian developer Royal Reign Studios. Not only does Castle Cab take place in a fun medieval setting, it will also feature 4-player split-screen co-op," says Co-Optimus.

Cat Quest III Is Heading to Apple Devices on August 8

"A big part of being a cat pirate is sailing the seas and traveling from place to place. What better way to do just that than by playing Cat Quest III on the go? Soon, aspiring kitty pirates will be able to enjoy the charming cat-themed action RPG on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. That should be a purrfect option for gamers who don't have the game on Switch or Steam Deck. The iOS version will still support 2-player local co-op, thankfully," says Co-Optimus.
