Xbox head of marketing Aaron Greenberg noted that both games had exceeded Microsoft’s expectations with how well they performed.
Yeah right Aaron.
They just have really low expectations.
Probably! Look at "most played" charts on MS Store. Sea Of Thieves at 32nd place, State Of Decay 2 nowhere to be seen. https://www.microsoft.com/e...
Leave the poor guy alone. He tries so hard for so little.
Dude has been full of --it for years. F that guy.
Show me the money Show me the money Show me the money
I'm watching Pearl Harbor and thinking of the Team America song. Cuba shoulda had a bigger role, man.
Keep the updates coming
Metacritic user scores in the 5's for both these games. Guess they didn't exceed the GAMERS' expectations. You'd think they'd refrain from bragging with scores like that.
You take MC user scores seriously?
Ok, so the critic reviews in the high 60's. I think it's fair to say they weren't exceeding most people's expectations, wouldn't you agree?
Yeah ... I'll stick with Amazon and MS Storefront reviews from actual purchasers. Not saying Metacritic user reviews are skewed or anything. Just that they're cancer.
Well exceeding expectations in this case appears to be user base/count rather than review scores, as for my expectations for these titles I never had that much in the fact I'm not picking either of them up (well maybe SoD2 on sale and on PC).
@MoshM, You talk like I game on a certain console, only one brainless person here following the trend and it's not me as I play on all consoles but mainly on PC.
Right Microsoft, since metacritic is telling you otherwise. Aaron as usual is a classic.
what does metacritic scores have to do with the games getting a large player base? Oh yeah, nothing.
I'm saying that SoT was very dry at launch. SoD 2 was very buggy. Most people on Metacritic agreed on that. I just don't want Microsoft to think it's okay releasing half baked products. Metacritic scores reflected the issues at launch .
Hes never played either
MS is just saying this to get more people to buy in. Metacritic is the truth.
I found SoD fun for about 5 hours but it became repetitive very quickly. SoT while having potential just didn’t have enough variety for me. No reason to hunt for treasure other than cosmetics. I do want to get back into SoT but I need some new gameplay mechanics and skill tree to keep me absorbed.
Well skill trees will never be there. The entire point of the game is that one player is never at an advantage over another other than their own skill and understanding of the mechanics.
Never say never. Plenty of games have skill trees yet the game is still balanced. There are really no mechanics in SoD and FOR ME that pushes me away from the game. You have a basic sword attack and a few different weapons and that’s about it (unless they’ve added something since last time I’ve played) and that’s just not enough. The hunt for treasure is fun until you realize all you can do with that gold is customize your ship and character. That’s cool and all but there needs to be more. More gameplay mechanic and skills IMO would make for a much better game.
What were those expectations? Because clearly it didn't exceeded gamers or commercial expectation. Empty smoke bragging Aaron.
You can't say this every day about every game and be taken seriously. But I'll just chalk this up to Microsoft just trying to flood the press to distract from the real success of Spider-Man. I guess that's all they can do since they can't legitimately compete with Sony and Nintendo.
State of Decay 2 was ok. Sea of Thieves was interesting for a day then it got painfully boring.
SoD charted #1 SoT charted #2 right behind Far Cry 5 I'd say they did pretty well
If they showed us those numbers, we could believe these statements. And, it's gamingbolt.
well they have over 5 million Sea of thieves players and over 3 million state of decay 2 players, as he told us. You can’t just judge by sales numbers with their inclusion to game pass
https://www.microsoft.com/e... This is Microsoft's own website. Sea of Thieves is currently at 32. No State of Decay in sight in the top 50. This is on the best online network in the world. Also take note of Destiny and all the Call of Duty's. You know those games that everyone hates. Thats why I don't take fanboys on this site too seriously.
SOD 2 makes an appearance in the top 49 in Australia. It is a shame they don't show the top 100. It doesn't appear in the UK or US most played list though. As for COD, the next installment actually looks good.
Spencer: "hey Greenberg, guess what! Everyone we got to buy a gamepass downloaded sea of thieves and state of decay!" Greenberg: "Did they. Did they really?! All of them you say..."
Man then them expectations must have been really really really low.
Does ANYONE take this guy seriously? The man can spin.
These 2 games are dead on twitch, this is pure bs and damage control.
Then reveal the sales data
I imagine that may not have been hard to do?
