Features Comparison: New PlayStation Gold Headset vs. Old PlayStation Gold Headset

Game Idealist: Sony currently has two PlayStation Gold Headsets on the market: the newer model that was released earlier in 2018 as well as the older version. So which are these two are better?

I'm shocked that in 2018 an official Sony branded headset needs a damn usb dongle to work.

How would you have them do it? Bluetooth audio is absolute garbage and completely makes $100 headphones useless. Maybe BT 5.0 is good, but PS4 doesn't have that. Also with a dongle it's easy plug and play with PC where I use my Golds as my PS+ ran out and the PS4 collects dust.

I used Bluetooth headsets on Ps3 and they worked fine.

I dunno.. some of those fancy headsets that are wireless still require weird setups on the base model OG PS4's. Since there was no USB port on the back of the machine (WHY?!?!) you had to connect the transmitter box to the front of the PS4 for the USB port and the back of the PS4 for the optical audio out. Much like using the PSVR processing box on the original PS4's as well.

I have the golds and believe me, plugging in a USB dongle is super fast and easy. Sound quality is great, mic quality is not.

You're lying. PS3 only supported BT headsets for online chat. It does not work to output game/movie audio.

The Ps4 doesn't offer any Bluetooth headset capabilities.

I only use it to char online.

Are those new gold headset good ?

They are made of plastic and cheap rubber. At most they will last about a year, and begin to tear and rip by six months. But only if you game for more than 3 hours a lot, which I do. However, sound-wise, they are some of the best compared to other more expensie models. This is my take on owing the original gold though. I haven't tried the new set. Right now I currently use the LS40 for the ps4 pro from Lucidsound. They are far supperior in all areas in my view, but the sound is pretty equal, and they are 100 bucks more.
