Video game soundtracks have always been impressive. While silence has its own virtue, the immersion that comes from groovy backdrop music is unbeatable.
Vice city / San andreas hands down never has a game perfected a soundtrack so much that it has influenced pop culture especially the brief 80s revival that we saw shortly after vice city released.
Um, the VC OST is actual songs from the 80s. They are all licensed. They didn't inspire anyone when they didn't create them.
Halo: CE wins hands down. Anyone who has ever played the game would agree, whenever you hear “video game soundtrack” it’s the first thing that comes to mind.
@ Well I think of TES games, those games would not have been the same without Jeremy Soule. But that’s my opinion and why this article is a list and not multiple choice.
They didn't need to create them it vibes perfectly with the game
@Profchaos It's not really their soundtrack tho is it? Also I think what you're trying g to say is it gave people a way to discover music. Either way it's not an original soundtrack.
The Witcher 3 had an awesome soundtrack.
Agreed but this one is for the classics- the most iconic ones. TW3 is relatively new
Ermm... not to be picky but.... Overwatch is on that list. A game that came out in 2016 AFTER The Witcher 3. So... yeah! Anyway have a listen to some this, it's just Epic https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Then why are Overwatch, Undertale, Uncharted, and Assassin's Creed 2 on there? The songs are neither iconic nor classic. Is this list wasn't just some dude plucking out his favorites and actually using iconic themes in gaming then surely MGS would at least get a shout out!
I more prefer soundtrack from Witcher 1 if you not listen. Try:)
I think the new GoW and Journey should have got some love.
No Streets of Rage ... automatic fail of a list.
Halo soundtrack will always be timeless.
Overwatch is on here but the likes of FF7 and Metal Gear solid isnt? Thats a joke.
I have no idea what Overwatch OST is as I never played it but I sure as shit know any FF OST and def know Metal Gears.
I don't know why Overwatch is there, I've been playing it quite a lot lately and yet I don't know that I would be able to recognize the soundtrack. It's not particularly memorable.
The main theme is definitely memorable but that's all it's got. I'd say we need more than just one track to consider any game to be among the best .
Yeah, surprised that only one Final Fantasy made it, as really between FF VI‐X were all awesome.
Indeed.... FF7 still has the best soundtrack ever made.
Absolutely agree. The soundtrack is simply a masterpiece.
Persona 3, 4, and 5 (only ones I've played, not trying to exclude previous titles). Also, FF7, FFT, and SOTN. Symphony of the Night is literally famous for this.
Xenoblade Chronicles Shenmue
Nice list, I’d add to it FF7’s Red XIII’s theme. Unforgettable.
Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack
Megaman 1,2 &3 Streets of Rage 1 and 2 Sonic 1 & 2 Shadow of the Colosus Castlevania Contra 1 and 2 Uncharted Super Shinobi Thunder Force 3
Square’s games including FF6- FF10 as well as Chrono trigger, Crono Cross, and most recently Nier Automata could easily fill out the top soundtrack list in gaming.
Battlefield 1 had a behemoth of a soundtrack. The Last of Us was chilling. God of War was epic. Quake III Arena. Now that soundtrack was funky as fuq.
Red Dead Redemption had an awesome soundtrack as well as Infamous Second Son. Those are two of the few game soundtracks I have ever bothered to own.
*Reads list* *Sees no Megaman or Castlevania* Excuse me while I squat down and take a massive steaming shit on this article.
you put in Jesper Kyd but not his sensational work on the OG hitman series? Or even his work on lesser known games like MDK 2 and Freedom Fighters?
Tekken 3 all original and probably the best soundtrack ever
Ghost in the Shell on the PS1. Before I discovered techo, there was the Megatech Body. Gateway MT6706 2008
The Best Is Yet To Come ( Rika Muranaka ) from Metal Gear Solid 1 ( PS1 version )
Heaven of hell, let's rock!
