Yakuza Kiwami 2 Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"When it comes to remaking a classic game from the PlayStation 2 era few publishers can say that they do a better job than Sega. After releasing Yakuza Kiwami worldwide last year to show off just how great these original games can be when brought to the modern day we now have Yakuza Kiwami 2 to continue to bring the story to new and old fans alike. Taking advantage of the Dragon Engine used in this year’s Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is this second remake just as impressive as the first?"

Very happy this game gets 9 everywhere. The best and the manliest Yakuza.

GrizToof2062d ago

Every yakuza game is great, just buy them all.

Nicknasty2062d ago (Edited 2062d ago )

I don't know, but kiwami didn't look at all as good as yakuza 6. After trying the demo of kiwami 2, I still think 6 is the best looking yakuza. Graphics wise on the ps4 pro.

Also one thing I couldnt stand that really put me off about all the other yakuza games, was all that dang unnecessary text all the time! It wasn't even important, just chit chat with sub stories and people on the street you had to go thru endless amounts of text.

This was a major gripe I had and was pretty much tapered down tremendously in yakuza 6. It was so bad that I got rid of kiwami 1. These games are really cool with an intense great story and fun amounts of gameplay. Ruined by an over abundance of unnecessary text. Even if there was no text and it was in English, it still would be just as bad. I would keep all that for the main story and reduce the rest of the game to a minimum. Yakuza 6 did it perfect! Maybe because these are older games or something, but shenmue didnt do all this and that was a big story driven game. Too much conversation!

What about Premium? Sony is having a laugh.

darthv72616d ago

since the allure of Premium is the older back catalog, they havent announced what is being added to that tier specifically. But since premium also includes extra then you can at least look forward to these.

sparky77616d ago

It's weird, kind of reminds me of how Game Pass PC was at the start with lack of games but normal Game Pass got everything.

They should really make Premium cheaper or in Beta mode until they have content to add.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

It's $1.66 extra a month when you pay annually. Pretty cheap already

Silly gameAr616d ago

@sparky77
You should try premium. If you're a fan of older console games, like most gamepass members are, they would love premium. Plus it's cheaper than gamepass and has a wider selection of games.

porkChop616d ago

These games are already on GP with the exception of Trials of Mana. Good for PS though, it's a good month.

sparky77616d ago

Shhh don't ruin the moment for him :)

Silly gameAr616d ago

If MS wouldn't have finally opened their eyes to how good the Yakuza series is, it wouldn't have been on xbox. It's a good thing they decided to give sega all of that money to make Like a Dragon a timed exclusive, and put most of the games on gamepass.

The biggest thing that happened to them this year was getting the Persona series on xbox finally. It's a great series , like yakuza. When xbox gets games that Playstation has had for years on their console, it always a pretty big deal.

DVAcme616d ago

Yakuza 0, 1 and 2 alone make this a fucking amazing month. Those three are easily over 20 or 30 hours of gameplay each.

Ready4nxtgen616d ago

It's alot more than 20 hours. Around maybe 50 to 70 hrs for some of them

darthv72616d ago

...if you are into that sort of game.

porkChop616d ago

They're great games. I used to have no interest in them but after playing Like a Dragon I started playing Yakuza Kiwami. Even if you're not sure you'd like them you should give them a try, they might surprise you.

TheColbertinator616d ago

Certainly among the best offerings on Game Pass for me

FallenAngel1984616d ago

Trials of Mana is a nice addition

They should also start adding the Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest series to the service at some point

Deathdeliverer616d ago

As someone that has been playing the Yakuza series since PS2 and has played and beat every game except Like a dragon (working on that now) and the one in feudal Japan, this is an amazing month. I won’t benefit from it personally as I own all of them, but man I hope people give these awesome games a try. Yakuza zero alone is amazing. Running the cabaret is more fun than anyone would have guessed. Racing the cars had me glued. I’ve played DBD for a few years now and it’s a great game full of toxic try hard survivors. Feels amazing to get those clutch killer wins on them. Both sides are super fun though. Already have Bugsnax. Ghost recon should be fun. I’ll be giving that a try.
I personally won’t benefit much from this month, but mannnn is it a hell of a month from those that will.

VersusDMC616d ago

The yakuza game in feudal japan is Yakuza Ishin and never got localized for the west. We got the zombie one (dead souls) because i guess westerners like zombies and not samurai...

They should localize it now as a remaster since Ghost of Tsushima showed a samurai game can sell well.

I already own all these digital+physical. So good to see more people will get to enjoy them.

Wonder why Fist of North Star isnt being added

italiangamer630d ago

Because it's not a Yakuza game, simple as that.

CrimsonWing69630d ago

Yep, licensing fees and whatnot.

RpgSama630d ago

So excited about the next Yakuza Like a Dragon I enjoyed that game much more than I thought K would have, went and got the platinum and everything.

IMissJimRyan630d ago

Yeah. I played them on GamePass, but it's good to others play those games.

Mobis-New-Nest630d ago

I'm still wondering why Horizon Forbidden West Delux Edition hasn't been added yet. Still hopeful it might get added in September 2022. Come Sony, do the smart business move and add all your first party games Day 1 on PlayStation Plus Premium.

mkis007630d ago (Edited 630d ago )

How is that smart? you just admitted to want to spend $18 for one month whenever a game comes out rather than $70 per game? Their sales are perfectly fine so low sales isn't a valid reason. Relying on subscription numbers is a losing game. You can't guarantee enough people will sub. 20 million subs doesn't beat 10 million copies sold at $30. (my average of the cost of a game over 3 years) For one game you make 300 million vs for the sub plan at 20 million paying 10 dollars a month (200 million) you have to pay out to all those developers before you can even count your money.

No chance it comes to plus plus this year. It will come when sales die down.

SeTTriP630d ago

This is a dumb idea for a franchise thats almost certain to hit 10mil lifetime.they would lose 10's if not a hundred million dollars.

Two years from now when the horizons, ghost and gow's do come to the service xbox might be in trouble.they have nothing to compete with this line even years down the line.

Its called strategy.

SeTTriP630d ago

I just brought judgement the game is great don't know how I missed it so now I'm planning on buying all the yakuza games so this is great for me.

It's early days but this new service is looking better and better. The full Yakuza series! And with the monthly games this month too. Fantastic month

Muigi630d ago

Never played any of them, good excuse now to try these out.

SegaSaturn669630d ago

That was the only Yakuza game I was missing. Might be the best month of all time for me.
