It only took til the tail end of this gen to come out with something good. Ps4 remote is crap ps3 had all the multimedia angles down perfect hope they go back to that with ps5 because outside of strictly gaming ps4 isn't that good.

Yeah it was excellent, I still use my ps3 for everything else. The remote was great, the media support and file organization was so convenient. Fully custom wallpapers, full audio and video support you can install right into the drive, and the bluetooth remote was perfect, a little bulky but still amazing. Ps4 has undeniably great games and dualshock 4 is a huge improvement over the 3 but my goodness the user interface for the system is terrible.

Yeah, I do find it sad my PS3 can play many media formats my PS4 can't... and what is the point of making an HDR system if the media player doesn't play 4K HDR files?

I really liked the PS3 remote. I was disappointed it didn't work on the PS4. Was a pain using the controller so I still use my PS3 for media features, although I've moved most of that onto the TV for streaming services as its more convenient, and my UHD player for disc movies so its not really an important issue for me anymore.

The PS3 is still one of the best media players on the market IMO. It does more than any one device out there does, and still supports more formats than any other device that I know about.

My Gold Wireless headset had a USB dongle lol.

Pretty cool. I’m already using a Logitech harmony hub system tho that’s integrated with Alexa. It’s actually great cuz it controls not only both consoles and the rest of my electronics but it also controls my lights etc too ... and the hub uses wifi which means you can also control everything from your phone.

I always wanted to buy a remote but every time I turn on my PS4 I end up playing a game because I have so many to go through, so this would get almost none to no use. Good idea though the other remote isn’t good from what I have heard

Why waste money on this remote when the Second Screen app has all the same inputs and is free?

Not to mention that devices supporting CEC or similar functionality already do this. Again, free if you have most newer devices. Doesn’t even have to be that new. LG TV remotes do this.

Sony needs to do a proper remote like they did with PS3. I have the previous version of this pdp & while it gets the job done for apps it leaves a lot to be desired. The button presses are a little spotty & my enter button sometimes doesn't register until I press it like I mean it. I still use it all the time because it's better than using the DS4 to browse netflix, Amazon Prime & the like. I think with some more refining of the navigation & enter buttons (all the buttons really) it could be a solid remote. Maybe they have addressed this in this new version but I doubt it.

The benefit of owning a sony tv with the playstation is total media control with the sony remote !

LG remotes do the same. It’s called CEC. Non-exclusive to Sony.

Samsung, Mitsubishi, Roku, Sharp, Toshiba, Philips, Panasonic, and Vizio among others offer the same features and have.

i see that's cool, so most people don't even need these remotes but are not aware that they can use thei tv remotes

That’s the rather large problem. Plus setup is super easy. But manufacturers don’t like pointing out these features simply so they can push selling another remote with “enhanced features” that aren’t actually enhanced.

In this instance the remote isn’t even being manufactured or produced by Sony. Then, as I see it at least, if you have no home network or constant internet access this remote becomes a paperweight as setup and what would seem use are determined by “the cloud”.

The other problem I see is that this remote has to be programmed for different devices. CEC is as simple as turning on the feature in your TV and supported devices. Most anything connected via HDMI is capable of CEC.

Strange. I was looking at Amazon this morning looking for 500 millionth controller and saw this. Seemed odd that I wasn't aware of it before. Too few buttons to matter.

Yeah, same on Xbox, my god, its even complicated to set bookmarks for Blu Rays ! PS3 remembered different marks for different movies ! How is that not possible on Xbox ?

One of my biggest complaints with this gen was the lack of a replacement for the PS3's awesome remote. I'm glad to see this...better late than never...but holy hell.
