Rage 2 is Single-Player Only, But Will Have a Long Tail of Content and Community Updates

Rage 2, the collaboration between id Software and Avalanche Studios, is an open-world shooter that blends the fast-paced and intense shooting of an id title with the exploration and freedom of an open-world action-adventure. id Software studio director Tim Willits responds when asked about the possibility of co-op or multiplayer.

"Meaning that Rage 2 is being developed in the style of a game as a service where support and updates continue for an extended period of time after launch."

I don't like the sound of that. If it has an always-online requirement they can shove it. Being single player focused I'm hoping it won't, but in this day and age it wouldn't surprise me.

Extended support and updates are automatically a bad thing? id are usually pretty great, so I'll at least give them the benefit of the doubt.

I mean look at Rainbow Six: Siege. That game is a GAAS, and yet it's a fantastic game. The support that game has gotten has been incredible. GAAS doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, even if it often is.

winter_hill2504d ago (Edited 2504d ago )

Support and updates are good, but if it turns out to be gaas then years from now when they shut the server down it can no longer be played. If that's the case, I won't support them. I like to play my fav games for years to come, and this is a game I will enjoy. I won't care when they shut down mmo/MP focused titles, but any SP focused game should have an offline option.

@ Winter Hill

It's a single player game so why would it be always online? The only need to be online would be to download content since there's no multiplayer component. Seems like you're getting mad over nothing at this point...

Smokehouse2504d ago

There is no need to have a knee jerk reaction every time you hear “service”. That’s what happens when simplistic buzzwords shape the narrative.

ZeekQuattro2505d ago

I'll wait and see how this game turns out. The first one was fun but the frequent sound cutting out bugs and the occasional crash kinda ruined the experience in the end.

Not having co-op at launch seems like a missed opportunity.

Avalanche stock is high in my book. Cant wait.

What a shitty f***** list! Most of the games on it were great fun. Bullshit list.

chantii_mmohaven902d ago

yep this is truly a b*tthurt list :/

MadLad902d ago

I think the only one I agreed on was Anthem, and even that isn't horrendous.

Knushwood Butt903d ago

Anthem; I'd forgotten that game existed. I remember thinking the trailer was BS though; turns out I was right.

Cueil901d ago

the game wasn't bad though

RavenWolfx902d ago

"Worst big budget games" and immediately lists Genshin Impact, a game that has $4 billion in revenue.

blackblades902d ago

$3 billion and counting along with alot of users. I disagree with that being on the list. This list is just a person opinion without merit

monkey602902d ago

I havent played Genshin Impact and Mafia 3 was alright. The rest though I kind of agree with.
I loved the 1st Kane and Lynch and I could not understand how the 2nd game was as bad as it was.

Free Games..the only good thing about EGS

gamefreaks3651594d ago

I have a pretty large EGS collection now thanks to all of the freebies.

kneon1594d ago

Me too, and yet I haven't played a single one

Profchaos1594d ago (Edited 1594d ago )

They frequently provide large discount vouchers of %15 to which is nice.

I'm more likely to buy a game on epic than steam these days steam prices are often higher

Terry_B1594d ago

15% lol..I get 20% already for being a humble choice subscriber.

Kados1594d ago

Even with the discount, i wouldn't buy anything from EGS. Rather pay the extra 15% to get it on Steam or GOG.

that drift racing looks simultaneously edge of the seat while also relaxing,

very strange , very cool.

Father__Merrin1594d ago
