doing some calculations to figure out the Tflop performance based on "leaked" specs:

(number of cuda cores) * 2 (since each cuda core can do two operations simultaneously per clock) * (base clock speed) / 1 million (to convert unit from megaflops to teraflops)

so here's what we have:

4352 * 2 * 1350 / 1000000 = 11.7504 Tflops which is similar to the current 1080Ti performance, I believe those specs are not for 2080Ti

ProjectVulcan2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

13.45TFLOPS compute and 616GB/s bandwidth plays a GTX1080ti 11.34TFLOPS and 484GB/s. Peak numbers for boost clock which is the speed the core runs at while gaming, whereas you fed in base clock numbers.

This could make the card a fair bit faster than a GTX1080ti, but not a huge amount. A lot faster than a GTX1080 though.

Now whether Nvidia call it a Ti or not really depends on them, it's only a name. Traditionally this would be just a plain old 2080 non Ti model and a bigger, meaner, faster Ti model would come later. 780 first, Ti later, 980 first, Ti later, 1080 first, Ti later etc.

However Nvidia are playing around with naming conventions so who knows. The important thing will be how much will it cost, when is it out, and how much do the cards below cost for their performance.

Hopefully it'll cost less than a GTX1080ti while being faster, and all the cards below take a step up for similar MSRP to their equivalent older models. So 2070 as good as 1080, 2060 as good as 1070 etc that would be nice.

Cobra9512500d ago

Good post. Nvidia's product names cannot be trusted anymore. Products with completely different specs (and performance) have been getting released under the same name over the past year, at least. This is what happens when there is no real competition. So it's important to wait for multiple competent reviews before buying in.

kevnb2499d ago

What are you on about cobra? Some aftermarket cards have better cooling and higher clocks, but not so much so that i would say they have completely different specs...

kevnb2499d ago

Fallout 4 runs perfect for me, just not at max settings. I only have an i5 4460 and ddr3 ram, for max settings you need a fast cpu and fast ram. At my reasonable settings it’s an easy 1440p 70+ FPS and it pretty much looks the same. It’s thing like maxing the shadow distance that tanks FPS.

kevnb2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

@teflon if you are running windows 10 that’s probably from ram compression. There are a few tweaks you can enable to fix it. You can either turn compression off with powershell or you could run a script that clears windows ram cache every ten minutes or so... just look to reddit for instructions. The problem is once ram compression is activated it adds cpu overhead to access the compresssd data.

jmc88882499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

The question then becomes, how far can you overclock it past that on air/liquid/ln2.

If it can hit 1800mhz on air = 16.1 TFlops
If it can hit 2000mhz on liquid = 17.4 TFlops

It will be interesting since it is on 12nm. We really can't rule anything out. It could hit 2000mhz on air. Maybe even a bit more.

Aither2499d ago

Albeit a 16% difference is not nearly as good as the 30% difference consumers are used to seeing, it is still a pretty marginal gap in power if it does turn out to be a general 2080 and not the Ti variant. However, that said it really is a minuscule power increase given it has taken nearly 2 years since Pascals release. Hopefully this isn't an omen of what to expect in future releases.

tagzskie2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

yeah i like that idea, just like they do w/ gtx 970 is equivalent to 1060. I just wish they follow that step

How many Terafloppers are needed to optimize an unoptimized game?

ssmilloy362500d ago

exactly. guarantee fallout still lags

Teflon022499d ago

I use a damn GTX1080 with a i7-8700k and 16gb of 3000mhz ddr4 memory with a 970pro nvme and I still get stutters on Final Fantasy XV. It holds a perfect 60frames it says but always a studded every so often. It's annoying. Mind you I'm playing at 1080p and having this lol. Bad optimized game will never play properly lol

Lon3wolf2500d ago

Maybe, maybe not, but remembering these cards are designed for RayTracing might mean they are focusing on that over Flops (although the RT 2080ti does have a rumoured 800-1000 more shader cores over a 1080ti)?

jukins2499d ago

Heh the consumer models are not for ray tracing. . . The ones that can doTHE BARE MINIMUM of what's needed for ray tracing are for developers in the 2,500-8,000 dollar range. They havent even speculated if the consumer models will touch it hell only a handful of developers areeven working with it. Try harder

Marcus Fenix2499d ago

then they've cornered themselves with either delivering some "Gameworks" RT features that truly show it off otherwise that die area should've gone to more cuda cores, it really sucks if two years + smaller node isn't enough to make a significant performance upgrade.

2499d ago
2499d ago
jukins2499d ago

So again when developer cards cost thousands and barely offer enough power to even attempt real time ray tracing somehow the less capable consumer cards are gonna be able to do it? Even the 30 fps demo took multiple titan v cards. Ray tracing isnt happening with these next cards

Lon3wolf2493d ago

@jukins

Lol, the RTX are consumer Ray Tracing cards hence they cost 1200 heh :) why should I try harder?

You arent accounting for the new design and features and how the card can handle them though.

Sure a comparison between PNY OC 1080TI and leaked 2080TI looks like this.

+754 Cores
-100Mhz clock speed
+GDDR6 not GDDR5 (Could account for slower clocks, not uncommon)
+132 GBPS bandwidth
- (consumes 35W more power)

But it doesnt account for some of its built in functions that they claim to get 25% faster performance than the Pascal Series even with its less CUDA cores than there Volta series.

This is the first architecture built for Ray Tracing and also was designed to do a bunch of machine learning so I am not really sure how well it will stack with gaming,

So I will be I will probably hold off another cycle to see how this pans out. Nvidia can hit me up when the 3080Ti comes out and we will talk.

Marcus Fenix2499d ago

im planning to get a 120hz HDMI 2.1 4K tv at some point, so my gaming target will become 4K@120fps which clearly even a 2080Ti won't be able to pull it off, so I think im gonna skip this series, my GTX 1080 is doing amazing for 1440p/60 and 4k/60 for less demanding titles.

kevnb2499d ago

Tflops arent that’s useful a number, just simple to market.

Marcus Fenix2499d ago

I believe it's very useful when comparing performance of cards from the same vendor, AMD usually got higher theoretical Tflop number than the competing Nvidia card, Vega 64 is rated at 12.6 Tflops yet my GTX 1080 (non Ti) outperforms it in most games, that's y I only take Tflops seriously when comparing performance of two cards from the same vendor.

porkChop2499d ago

TFLOPs doesn't tell the whole story though. This is an all-new architecture. Real world performance will likely be significantly better than a 1080 Ti.

Nvidia GPUs regularly outperform AMD GPUs that are supposedly capable of much higher TFLOPs, because TFLOPs don't translate to actual performance.

Teflon022499d ago

. Aren't ti cards released like a year after the 80 cards. Why'd they actually have the specs out before the 80s anyways lol

Remember in June when i said Jensen was talking BS when he said "A long time.." til new GPUs? And i said 1-2 months could easily be a long time. Yea, i got tons of downvotes.

I feel pretty good right about now. This just proves people will believe whatever rubbish they are told.

Your parents must be so proud.

Segata2499d ago

I've been on this site seven years and this is the first time I recall seeing your name so no.

Teflon022499d ago

I don't comment alot, but I've been here maybe 5 years or more, I haven't seen foxy's name either. I've seen yours, not too often though lol

FinalFantasyFanatic2499d ago

I would be wary of any information at the moment, or at least, until we see a bit more about the cards on Monday, we've had rumors all over the place.

I'm waiting to see what a 2080Ti has to offer but I'm hoping it's significantly faster than a titan V (20% or 30% would be nice, I want at least 30% over the 1080Ti).

ChrisW2499d ago

Hmmm... $1,000? Time to start saving my pennies!

Hungryalpaca2499d ago

I would just wait for the price to drop. I got my 1080 6 months after it launched for $500.

Si-Fly2499d ago

You know the launch price for a 1080 was $549 right?

Even the Meta Quest can be an Xbox — Leaked images show an Xbox-branded Quest 3S

Windows Central writes: "CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, had previously been vocally opposed to the idea of a native Xbox headset, stating in 2019 that 'nobody's asking for VR' on Xbox. However, Microsoft's marketing strategy for the Xbox Series X|S generation has shifted with the rise of Xbox Cloud Gaming and the 'This is an Xbox' marketing."

Ah, a contributing factor to Meta dropping PSVR2 support for Beat sabre! Microsoft’s always stuck with the modus operandi of “if you want an original idea steal someone else’s” and try to destroy markets they cannot win in. They are doing to to console gaming and now trying VR!

OtterX3h ago

It's like a rich kid who pays the smart kid to do his homework for him.

*Yea, such a shame about Beat Saber dropping Playstation support btw. :\

OtterX3h ago

The XBox way. Hardware, even game development companies.... let them do the hard work of building things, throw them some money, then slap an XBox logo on it!

Jin_Sakai3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Good old fragmentation. Just what Xbox needed.

IRetrouk3h ago

Looks nicer than the standard one

PapaBop41m ago

This is probably nothing more than a branding attempt to show Xbox really is on all platforms. The Quest already has the Xbox Cloud app that supposedly works great. Would be cool if Microsoft actually entered the VR space in a larger capacity but if they was doing that, I imagine they'd have showcased it at their summer showcase.

Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 already outsold lifetime sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz19h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand12517h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

Profchaos15h ago

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox

The director of the original Silent Hill: “I look forward to seeing bold interpretations.”

Keiichiro Toyama—the creator and original director of the 1999 Silent Hill—shared his personal thoughts on the recently announced remake by Konami, reflecting on what the project means to him after more than two decades:
“I felt something similar when the game was adapted into a movie. It deeply moved me to see the names of the characters and locations I had created come to life visually, even though I wasn’t directly involved. That wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the fans and the dedication of the developers who’ve kept the series alive.
I’m really looking forward to seeing how the remake evolves this time. With the advanced technology we now have, I’m sure I’ll be surprised by how the game is reimagined. Since the original was built for the first PlayStation, there will naturally be challenges—like the camera and controls—but I’m eager to see bold and creative solutions to those elements.”

Haha Not only is bold and creatively not what the industry wants, it’s not what most people want.

They want to get scammed and pay twice for a thing they already own.

jznrpg18h ago

I’m sure many would want bold and creative done well, but that’s easier said than done. I like variety so give me a little bit of everything, done well of course.

Nightcrawler891d 18h ago

Hope they use his vision in the game

Inverno1d 18h ago

Was the SH2 remake even bold? Or was it more or less just a 1 to 1 over the shoulder remake?

Scissorman1d 2h ago

it was not. it greatly expanded the areas and puzzles to the point where it felt like an entirely new game. the enemies and boss fights were given a MASSIVE upgrade. the abstract daddy fight in particular was incredible. and the team added two new endings.

Pedrof1d 18h ago

I wouldn't hold my breath on "bold".
