Remedy has finally updated their Alan Wake - Homepage including new screenshots and the brandnew trailer that has just been shown in some movie theatres before the premiere of the Max Payne movie.

I'm a little worried about this game. All the hype that was already built up without any game play whatsoever is making me wonder if it's going to be another Alone in the Dark. That had a VERY VERY similar trailer and I got excited about that game until I actually played it :/

But this game reminded me of Heavy Rain, they look kinda similar. Although I wish the main character didn't look so damn depressed. The actual character looks great! Even if those screens are from a PC build I'm pretty sure the 360 can come at least close to pulling it off.

However the rest of the game looks a little..off? I know someone said blocky but I was thinking blurry or just regular. Its like the character looks amazing but the rest of the environment doesn't match the detail. Just my opinion though.

I'm really hoping this game turns out to be something good. Remedy has been working on this game forever, and it would suck for them to put all that time into something that turns out to be underwhelming.

I think this game is going to compared to Heavy Rain, since they're coming out around the same year, and both seem to be heavily story driven. I wish the best of luck to both microsoft and remedy with this one.

Well the DVD for the PC has compressed data on it and will normally ship with multiple DVD's IF needed then the game WILL INSTALL to the PC (this expands the compressed data) and only needs the main DVD in the cd drive to recognize that you own the game, if you actually used a PC you would know this and since the Xbox doesn't do this you can see where he will get the idea that it will be dumbed down version or that it may have to be of more than 2 DVD's to match the PC version.

game is said to be the first game to truely utilize the multicores in the 360 CPU, most developers have not yet tapped into the capabilities that multicores have due to the complexity and time needed.

The 360 still has a lot of graphical power left to be tapped, anyone who thinks it has been maxed so soon in the life span of the console is just ignorant. I hope this game is the beginning of the next level of next gen game production.

I've been frequenting the Alan Wake/Brightfalls forums for a couple years now, and the guys from Remedy who post there, are very happy with the 360 hardware. According to some posts recently, games published/dev'd under the "Games for Windows" brand, are made for Vista/DX10, then ported to XP and 360. However, they also stated the 360 versions are closer to Vista/DX10, as seen with Bioshock. Expect the 360 version of Alan Wake to be identical to the high-end (not max) PC version, aside from maybe framerate and some DX10-specific post-processing effects, like with the Gears PC release.

the fracture developers said on the interview with Gamespot that they had maxed out the 360 with all the physics calculations, one of the advantages an 7 SPU core has that a normal PC core doesn't.

The Xbox 360 is powerful in that it runs exactly like a PC with a quad core, that's great but it can't hold up against a dedicated 7 SPUs which can process and dedicate farrr more.

You use bioshock as your example, to be honest, it's not a graphical warehouse, its a gameplay warehouse, a graphical warehouse is something like Uncharted drakes fortune or Killzone 2, not Bioshock (as great a game as it is)

like look for yourself. The gears 2 picture, great game, but it uses an image collection as its fire, because the CPU can't calculate and keep a steady frame rate the actual fire particles dispersing etc. With Killzone 2 it's quite different, the uncharted explosions are the same. And look at the ground texture on the gears 2 pic. you see? I hope that helped!

Multi core/threading development on the 360 is barely starting to be taken (full)advantage of, MSFT hired a Multi threading Guru last year to help devs better take advantage of the 360's hardware.

We'll see better use of multi core developemnt in games like Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 and Project Offset(if MSFT convinced Intel to keep it on the 360, I'm sure they know they can make money so expect it)

The game revolves around alan who was/is a novelist (similar to that of stephan king). He became successful after writing a book based on dreams he was having during his marriage to his wife. Soon after he finished the book his wife goes missing, and he slowly becomes an insomniac. He heads to the town of brightfalls to try and fall asleep, hoping that he might have dreams which will help him find his wife but events from his original book start to occur in the town, starting to haunt him.

Heavy Rain looks way better in every aspects when comparing trailers to trailers and in game photos to in game photos or gameplay to gameplay. the 360 is tap out on disc space and hardware compacity. Gears2 could of been a DLC instead of a retailed game.. Gears2 looks tap out. Gears has longer levels. Do you mean "shoot the tank" type of levels and the level is complete.. gears 2 has new modes. All the new modes could have been a DLC. this to me is a hardware or compacity issue but that my opinion only. Alan wake might have a very good storyline but the graphics might be on par with the New silent hill game. I've got to say the trailer makes the game look visually amazing but that's it's purpose, it's a trailer. It did it's job as a trailer.

I know this game is highly anticipated and people are getting hyped up but here you go have a wee read at this and bring yourselves back down to earth.

Q: What platform was used?
A: PC. The shots were taken in 1080p resolution (using 4xMSAA) and scaled down to 720p for web release. We are only releasing a few shots, and we wanted these to be usable for print purposes as well, therefore the higher resolution. The game looks very good on Xbox360 too but only runs in 720p.

Q: There's cool Depth-of-Field in the Cabin shot, is this real time?
A: That shot is from the Cinematic Trailer. We intend to use DOF effects to enhance storytelling in the in-game cinematics, but (at least at the moment ) it is done as an offline post process. Otherwise that image is fully rendered by the game engine.

Good luck having the actual gameplay on the 360 match up to what we've seen in the trailer. I'm sure it'll still look great but it won't be near the quality of this trailer for gameplay.

And lol at the GOTY comments by Omega at the start of this article, utterly amazing when there's not a lot known of what the game is even about and based on a cinematic trailer lol.

Now with all that said I'm about to watch this trailer about 5 more times in a row because it was pretty dramatic and got the excitement levels up, but that's just what trailers do.

Ok mate here it is.

At worst, the gameplay footage from Heavy Rain is on par with this, imo it looks better in terms of detail but I guess that's subjective (for some people) so I'll let that one slide and not even bother arguing over opinions

The game won't look like this on the 360 mainly because of these 2 reasons, which are fact rather than opinon.

It won't be a full 1080p game (which this trailer is along with the screenshots) and won't have 4x Anti-Aliasing. It'll be in 720p on the 360 and while that indeed looks good, it isn't as good as 1080p, or would you like to be the only person on the planet arguing that 720p looks as good as 1080? Let's also not forget that some of what is in this trailer is in fact cinematic footage as mentioned on the game's own website.

It'll look great on the 360 no doubt there but it won't be up to par with what you've seen in the trailer and the gameplay on the 360 version of this game certainly won't be on a level playing field when put beside Heavy Rain whose actual gameplay footage we've already been blown away by. By we I mean gamers and the gaming media in general

When the actual 360 gameplay footage comes out we can go over this again, in fact I'm looking forward to that article already :D

Oh and a final point, it's not only 360 owners that'll be playing this in '09 or whenever it comes out, I'd say the vast majority of PS3 owners will be able to play it too, you know since it's not actually a 360 exclusive, or do you somehow not believe another fact laid down in front of you? lol

Killzone 2 is still the undisputed graphics champ in my book. This barely has anything even happening on-screen most of the time and still the animations need work, has some bad textures in places, and a few other things. I realize this is still a work in progress so I expect it to get even better but from this it does not beat out KZ2, Heavy Rain (most appropriate comparison I think) or even Uncharted.

Here's hoping it's a great game though.

The game is coming out for a platform that I already own, if when there is some info on what the game is about it sounds like something I want to play I'll play it regardless if it's a MS made/published game or not, despite what retarded conclusions you may have come to I'm not some rabid MS hater, I don't mind buying their products when they are worth buying.

If it really is a GOTY contender then awesome,I'll get to enjoy it too but I'll form my own opinion on that when there is more proper gameplay footage and info on what the game is about. To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if this game ends up having more "fun gameplay" than Heavy Rain because Heavy Rain's gameplay seems to be something completely new so not sure how that'll work out and another thing that won't surprise me is HR being on top in terms of graphics and storyline. We'll just have to wait and see how both games turn out because the truth is we don't really know very much at all about either of them.

That is easily, the best *looking* console game to date. Without a doubt.

To wit, watch; The light acrsoss the side of the building; the volumous-based light in the dark places (especially his torch); the textures on Alan himself.

Knowing how terrific Max Payne is, and seeing this trailer, Alan Wake just went up very near my "anticipated games" list.

I downloaded the 1080p version, and I got to say my jaw was dropped for the entire trailer. It looks a lot better than when it was first shown. One thing that really won me over was the music. I had the speakers pretty loud and once the radio DJ was talking about Bright Falls and the camera came out beneath the bridge, the music gave me instant goosebumps.

Yet graphically, Heavy rain, shown at least six months ago, looks better to me; it's just my opinion, so bear with me.I say that because that waitress talking to Alan looks like the demo Quantic Dream put out, but to be fair, the newest Heavy Rain trailer had muppet-like speech, but I believe they'll fix that because Quantic's demo had better mouth movement than the Heavy Rain trailer.

Don't get me wrong, I still will likely get this for PC, but to me it doesn't look better than Heavy Rain.

like i said this game isnt the best looking game. uncharted looks better than this game. imo gears 2, uncharted, killzone 2, and maybe mgs4 are the best looking console games. the environment in this game doesnt look quite as good as the games ive mention. the textures arent that great either. i will admit the characters are top notch.

btw this game looks better than heavy rain. i fail to see why people think heavy rain looks so good. heavy rain's textures arent impressive and the character models are just above average. the games i mentioned above look better than both heavy rain and alan wake so far.

Well the last time they showed there game it was in some PC conference & it was running on a Quad core machine. I am curious what are the system specs. By the way somebody said 360 was the lead platform. They haven't even shown the 360 version, 360 is not the lead platform. I hope it looks good, but don't expect that quality on a 360. I am not bashing 360, I own one, but saying that was running on a 360 is madness.
