I think they are just patches as in they couldn't fit all games in 4k on a disc so it's going to download the rest as a patch.

Years ago we had network passes and they failed overall people didn't want them. I can't see them coming back

They were able to put all 3 games for Crash at launch when it was timed for the PS4 but now Spyro is a multiplat day 1 and suddenly only 1 game comes on the disc?? greedy bastards! NO BUY!

Switch can support up to 64GB cards, but devs choose to only release 16GB cards with downloads to save on manufacturing costs.

But yes, it makes no sense at all why they couldn't have fit all the games onto the disc.

see thats the thing. This game wont be in the bargain bin until they mark down new/unsold copies to that price. Crash isnt there yet after over a year. You can't resell this game back to gamestop or your buddy. Once you use the code to get the 2nd and 3rd game, that's it for it. Gamestop isn't going to take this "trilogy" with only one game in it.

@Kidaris lots of gamers trade in their games... I suspect a significant amount of them buy games at release. These are the people willing to pay full retail because they know they can get half their money back towards purchasing the next game at full retail once again. Devs need to stop looking at used games like it's the devil.

I'm a collector. One of the thing about compilation bundles is you get to own several games all in one place. In this case, you don't, and your ability to collect is basically just on the game included on the disc.

There are a lot of people who aren't really that keen on just taking whatever digital stuff the publishers shove onto us nowadays, and while they may not be against digital, they don't support it under circumstances where it isn't beneficial to them. And to most, not having ownership. Of the entire collection is a deal breaker.

It really is a different perspective. You eventually will have a $60 plastic disc with nothing other than an activation code. It almost makes digital purchase more relevant but exactly what Activision and I'm sure any company would like to get to. If they don't have to pay for manufacturing cost suck as disc + disc case then that's more money for them without the middle man. Strange Strange future. Not sure if I like it or not.

a) There's a chance they're doing this to lock Spyro 2+3 to new copies so people who buy pre-owned need to pay extra to play the full Trilogy.
B) A patch is not the same as 66% of the game. The vast majority of games can be played without a patch, albeit with a few bugs.
c) It seems extremely counter-intuitive to not include all 3 games on a blu-Ray disc that can easily contain the data for all 3 games.

They already clarified. Their website says that the 2nd and 3rd game need to be downloaded.

That's not a patch, that's just them.restricting content. It may be a.free download for whoever has the disc, even if second hand, but there is no reason that all three games couldn't fit on a single disc.

having a day one patch is not the same as having one game physically on a disc and then having the other two as digital downloads. If those two downloads require say a PSN code, then this will literally prevent used copies from existing as the codes would be useless for anyone else afterwards. Thus Activision can ensure that they get full price for every copy sold.

A day one patch is just for improvements or fixes made after a game went gold and was already being manufactured.

Sigh, I was already going to get this game digitally, but I'm considering not to. I feel like I would be supporting this kind of practice. There are some games I'd like to have physically (Japanese/atlus titles) and some for digital (overwatch). Buying Spyro, whichever way, might make future practices like these normal.
