Perfect Score Games Before Way Too Many Games Existed

Way Too Many Games launched in the beginning of 2017, meaning we've only reviewed games from that date onward. To this day, we have never given out a perfect ten in any of our four hundred reviews. But that doesn't mean we haven't played games worthy of a perfect score. On occasion, we've been asked which games we'd score a ten out of ten and it's time for each member of the website to list their top nominees.

Halo 2, Uncharted 2, Mario 64, God of War 2, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock, Bloodborne, Zelda OoT, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Chrono Cross... probably more that I would give 10's but that's all I can think of right now.

LucasRuinedChildhood2519d ago

And Mass Effect Andromeda of course.

PressXtoBacon2519d ago

Who let you out of your cage, monster?

stupidusername2519d ago

Such a great game. It totally destryed both Horizon and Zelda BoTW in terms of story, characters, gameplay... just everything. Andromeda is the true Goty of 2017. Fact

Perfect Dark > Goldeneye

LucasRuinedChildhood2519d ago

Goldeneye is a tough one. It hasn't aged well but it's a ridiculously important game and was incredible at the time of its release.

kevnb2519d ago

After playing games like quake 3 and unreal tournament goldeneye was like a joke, but still couch co op made it worthwhile until better games came out.

Shmeidi2519d ago

You'd give Super Mario Galaxy 2 a perfect 10, but not Mario Odyssey?

Jinger2519d ago

I would, but I was, uh, trying to stay with the theme of the article that states "Before 2017"

Shmeidi2519d ago

Damn you're right. I forgot that came out in 2017. It felt like it took me a lifetime to collect all those moons.

3-4-52519d ago

No such thing as perfect score games...all games have flaws, but the games you mentioned are all awesome.

Jinger2519d ago

All games have flaws, yes, but some are less noticeable if 98% of the rest of the game is still AMAZING.

LiViNgLeGaCY2519d ago

A perfect score does NOT mean the game is perfect. Jesus guys...

3-4-52518d ago

Literally what the word perfect implies. This gen hands them out like participation trophies to make everyone feel good about their favorite game.

I'm surprised no one put Super Mario Land 3.

The first game I really felt like was a masterpiece was Final Fantasy 7 (keep in mind, I didn't play FF6 growing up). FF7 was my first real experience with a JRPG since Dragon Warrior on NES, and man, it consumed me. I had a similar response to FFT as well (probably put 500 hours into that game). I remember the day I got my PS1, I got FF7. I didn't understand memory cards though, so I didn't buy one. I couldn't get someone to take me to the store again, but I really wanted to play it. I put about 12 hours in and then died. But yeah, those 12 hours captivated me, and as devastating as that was, I couldn't wait to get back to where I died.

gutteranthems2519d ago

OG FFVII is still one of my favorites. but the older I get, the less that the game makes sense by disc 3

bluefox7552519d ago

Lol, yeah, it did seem pretty crazy. I just assumed I was too young to really grasp the story. I really have to go back and play it again.

PressXtoBacon2519d ago

it gets weird af.

When we get FFVII remake in 2077, I want the story to be fixed.

paintedgamer19842519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

Id agree with you except shortly before ff7 i played super metroid... and i was like head blown. Think i was like 14... ff7 didnt come until i was 16ish... i was also on the non memory card having ass club at first lol. Totally forgot that... ff7 def consumed me like no rpg before. I remember really liking 7th saga, legend of gaia, and secret of mana prior and then ff7 said totally forget about what ever bad ass rpg youve played before now... forget! Back in the days where my mom would get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and id swear she did that just to yell at me 😂 sooo i put a blanket over my door to shed the light of my tv and turned the volume so low hah

Lot of Bioshock Infinite love...I mean really?

I understand the first Bioshock but Infinite? Hey it was a great game but in comparison to the first and what it featured before being heavily stripped and reworked before launch I couldn't say a perfect 10 in my opinion

gutteranthems2519d ago

We based it off of what was in the game, not what was removed from it. And the end of the day, Infinite is worth its salt, even if it had the potential to have contained more.

-Foxtrot2519d ago

The point is even what we got pales in comparison to the first game.

It was good but not a perfect 10 good, no chance...and that's coming from someone who enjoyed it.

lptmg2519d ago

Beach Boys acapella dude. Beach Boys acapella

paintedgamer19842519d ago (Edited 2519d ago )

Agreed, the 1st bioshock was the best and to me it felt like the magic was lost after every following entry... which happens in almost every game ever except very few. Im hearing a new entry is comming? God i hope its a reboot

Foxtrot: Well said

LoveSpuds2518d ago

Yeah, I have to agree with you here Foxtrot. Bioshock is simply a masterpiece, it still holds up as a playing experience today in my opinion (I replayed it just a few months ago in fact) but I think it is also a historically important game in respect of the gaming landscape.

While Infinite was a tremendous game, and maybe deserving of high scores, I still dont think it can hold a candle to the original game and I certainly dont think it has the same impact on gaming culture and development as the original Bioshock.

I_am_Batman2518d ago

I think people are overcritical on Bioshock: Infinite most of the time. I loved both games personally (I loved Bioshock 2 as well even though it's not on the same level as the other 2). And cut content is absolutely the standard procedure in AAA game development so if you gonna knock Infinite for that you can do that with the vast majority of AAA games in existence.

-Foxtrot2518d ago

Point is the cut content which existed when the game was reworked in another way looked more promising and technical then what we got. The things you could do or the things Elizabeth could do during the old build was more then what they could both do in the final product. Not to mention the levels seemed more open aswell to give off the impression the world was bigger, it was said if you saw something in the distance, another section of the city then you could use the skyhook to get to it...in the final release it was not the case.

http://bioshock.wikia.com/w...

I_am_Batman2517d ago

Yeah I agree that the cut content was more ambitious than what we've got in the final game but again that's not unusual at all. Often times the most ambitious ideas are the once being dialed back or cut from the game because of time or budget constraints.

Obviously these early trailers set expectations really high so I get the criticism that the finished game didn't live up to all the promises. I assume that's why most people don't want games to be announced so early. I for one don't have a problem with that as I'm very aware that a lot of things can and will change throughout the development of a game. I try not to let the early footage impact my judgement of the final game.

Almost all games that aren't conceptually very simple can be improved upon. What's important to me is how much I liked what was there and in the case Bioshock: Infinite I liked it a lot.

The 7 Best Video Game Trailers of All Time

There's been a lot of great video game trailers over the years, but here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best produced so far.

-Foxtrot639d ago

I never even knew this existed, I love him, he was fantastic

Just a shame that he passed away, I always wanted to see if they did one more Bottom live when they were older to send the characters off if he was still alive. I'd have loved to go and see it.

CantThinkOfAUsername638d ago

@LordoftheCritics that's my kind of list! I'd only add Halo Wars 2 and For Honor.

Rocketisleague638d ago

Versus Xiii original trailer, I was literally a kid back then. Shame it was quite disappointing on release

-Foxtrot639d ago

Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Revelation had some great cinematic trailers, the latter using Woodkids Iron. Even Assassin Creed Unity had a trailer when they used another Woodkid song which was decent.

Tomb Raider Underworld had a really good reveal trailer showing Croft Manor in ruins but showed it in reverse.

The Last of Us Part II reveal with Ellie singing Through the Valley and also the TV Sport where she sang a cover of True Faith.

The Witcher 3s A Night to Remember trailer which they basically turned into the games Epilogue set after the Blood and Wine expansion. He told Orianna he'd come back for her and he did.

Halo 3 Starry Night. Short but effective.

The Callisto Protocol launch trailer. The game might not be amazing but the launch trailer was well done and the theme song to the game "Lost Again" by Kings Elliot was beautiful

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, great trailer and really gave off that mystery, conspiracy vibe

Uncharted 4 Man Behind the Treasure

Deathloop Launch trailer with Pitch Black and the official gameplay trailer with Déjà Vu, two great songs made for the game.

isarai639d ago

Never even played the game but AC Revelations CGI trailer I saved in my PS3 and would rewatch on a regular basis, and used it as a reference for calibrating TVs when I bought them

eagle21638d ago

Grand Theft Auto Vice City back in the day, The Uncharted series trailers have been awesome (always get me hyped), Grand Theft Auto 5, Breath Of The Wild reveal trailer, Team ICO trailers have heart and Ghost Of Tsushima reveal made my jaw drop....to name only a small few.

TheEnigma313638d ago

Gears 1 and gears 3 are the top for me. I would throw dante's inferno in there for the song

Hofstaderman638d ago

Mass Effect 3 trailer featuring the battle. Enough said. That and Assassins Creed 3 cinematic trailer was great too.
