The emptiness I feel after playing God of War is still a hard pill to swallow

Chris White: "Over the years I've played many wonderful games and had plenty of joyful experiences I'll cherish forever, but God of War sits firmly at the top."

I felt the same after Pac-Man.

GoW truly is a pure masterpiece, it is a future classic. Enjoyed every second of it...and of course i platinumed it, if any game deserves the trouble of getting the platinum trophy, it is GoW.

Bahamut2510d ago

Too easy. Wish they would've added a trophy for beating it on the hardest difficulty imo.

RedDeadLB2510d ago

I wish developers would stop with the stupid collectible items (figurines and ravens). Most annoying and pace breaking moments in any game. If I could I'd cut them out of every single game.

TyrellCorp2510d ago

I disagree, I hate having a tremendous experience with a game on normal or hard and going back for the sake of a trophy only to be met with frustration and have a bad taste left in my mouth. I’m glad ultra hard modes exist for those seeking an additional challenge, but making them obligatory for a platinum is just annoying.

CorndogBurglar2510d ago

I feel like most games should have a trophy for beating it on the hardest difficulty. As long as the hardest difficulty isn't some novelty difficulty that is basically impossible, like Doom for instance.

UNCHARTED2FANATIC2510d ago

What's the point of having a platinum trophy if it's easy? If it's supposed to be about bragging rights is should be a challenge. I wish they had the hard mode tied to the plat.

KwietStorm_BLM2510d ago

I was definitely expecting a hard trophy. It's weird seeing people complain about tough trophies and achievements in general. It's like they want participation awards that kids in little leagues get. A trophy is supposed to be for an accomplishment. Sure sometimes they ask you to do things that are just a little asinine, but if you're not willing to work for the trophy, then why should you have the right to complain about how tough it is to unlock it? You don't HAVE to get all trophies to enjoy the game.

Bahamut2509d ago

Wow, there are a lot of noobs on N4G. The platinum was too easy to get, everyone I know has it.

Ragthorn2509d ago

@RedDeadLB Speaking my mind man. I always accidentally collect those trinkets (e.g., Ubisoft games from recent memory do this a lot) and it drives me nuts. Then it shows up "As 1/899 collectibles collected!" I think just having it as TyrellCorp says, beating the game is enough. Doesn't matter if it's easy, normal, or hard. Just beating it once is enough to grab it. I am not really a huge fan of trophies/achievements, so I am biased in that aspect because of my Achievement Hunter days back on the 360. I realized how much of a time sink it was doing them, so I just used that time to play more games or play the game however I liked!

It's a shame that some companies focus on release dates instead of the complete experience. Most recent game I wish to finish with satisfaction is Far Cry 5. 70% into the game and it falls flat. So disappointing. But games like GOW and HZD remind me to continue to support these devs because without them, I would probably look for a new hobby or revert to old quality games.

bloop2510d ago

GoW released when I was about 50% through FC5. Normally I'd finish a game before starting another but was always going to make an exception for this game. I took my time with it and took me about 2 weeks to 100% the game. In those 2 weeks, I'd completely forgotten I even had FC5!! When I remembered I did, I practically had to force myself to finish it, and it felt like more of a chore than something enjoyable after playing GoW.

madforaday2510d ago

It is crazy, when I played GOW, I didn't really notice how there wasn't traditional load screens. Of course, until I saw the countless articles about them you notice what they did.

You REALLY start to notice when you play other games. I just got Assassin Creed Origins, great game, but one thing that I notice it every time you do a mission, it goes to a black screen to load the cut-scene. Not even close to game breaking but it really does get you out of the immersion.

CorndogBurglar2510d ago (Edited 2510d ago )

I think some of that is because Farcry 5 isn't good at keeping interest. Which is unfortunate. It's a great game.

But something that killed it for me is that they let you buy special versions of all the guns as soon as you have the money. So there is no reward when you finally get an AK, because anyone with a brain already bought the one with the Carbon Fiber skin long before it starts showing up in the game. It kind of killed any sense of discovering a new weapon....which is really the only rewards you get in the game.

riibhu2509d ago (Edited 2509d ago )

70%!!? For me it fell flat as soon as I finished one boss. As soon as I was done with that one boss(the youngest brother I think) I had seen everything far cry 5 had to offer. After that it became redundant and boring. Not to mention those forced boss segment missions, really hated those.

Gamist2dot02509d ago

Lol, the yeah those forced segments and I could have sworn Ubisoft recycled the level designs from Rainbow Six, and those stupid fetch quests.

The reason I proceeded further in the game was because I was fully immersed and I enjoyed the weapons...until I was unbelievably captured while high in the sky with a fully armed helicopter waiting for the attack which never arrived, and all I got was a stupid fade out of screen that I am caught...smdh.

nucky642510d ago

GoW was one of those games i was sorry that it had to end........ of course, i love replaying it.

And not in a good way! GOW 2018 was not what I was expecting either, and it blew me away! However this is like a popcorn fart in church.

Elda2d ago

I wouldn't mind playing that, I'm guessing somewhat in the vein of Prince Of Persia:TLC but hopefully with better graphics.

RaidenBlack2d ago

Which 2.5D tho?
I think its a top down perspective game.

PassNextquestion2d ago

2.5D can be done in many different ways. It could be as simple as a size scrolling game with 3D backgrounds

Nebaku2d ago

Well it says "Metroidvania". I think you can derive which kind of 2.5D from that.

ravens522d ago

🤔 Interesting. Nothing wrong with switching it up to a different genre of game for a side project. Hope they don't try to do that to a main entry.

jznrpg2d ago

This sounds very interesting. I love a good Metroidvania.

Deathdeliverer2d ago

Actually sounds good as hell in my imagination. Definitely interested.

Ex-PlayStation Boss Shuhei Yoshida Pushed for God of War Reboot Delay

Former PlayStation Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida saw God of War as a "problem" when he first played it, and advocated for its delay.

gold_drake58d ago

yea, its also mentioned in the documentary they did about it.

isarai58d ago

Ye, it just wasn't up to their standards, nothing wrong with that imo

Goodguy0158d ago

And it became one of my most favorite games of all time and I still like it more than the sequel.

goken58d ago

Well if a game/movie/project needs fixing, especially something with the legacy that god of war does. Delay and fix it, don’t ruin the legacy by releasing crap.

Babadook757d ago

Way to go.

Like Miyamoto famously said.

“A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
