Beyond Two Souls sales numbers have reached 2.8 million copies across PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms.
Quantic Dreams makes the best selling adventure games outside of Telltale Games
They should announce players and count everyone who has PS+ be like Microsoft and multi-count so they can claim ridiculous numbers.
Congrats Quantic Dream
Although massively different than Heavy Rain, I really enjoyed the somewhat experimental gameplay of this game, especially when sent on missions.
That’s wonderful. Regardless of Heavy Rain not being as well praised as Heavy Rain, very much loved Beyond. Ellen & Willem were remarkable as Jodie & Nathan. The whole cast did a fantastic job!
Read your first sentence. It made me laugh.
Lol. Thanks for pointing that out. I assume people understand I meant “Regardless of Beyond not being as well praised as Heavy Rain” haha, as I was typing this to you, I accidentally put Heavy Tain. Ugh. Thanks for the laugh tho. I needed it. Hope your having a good evening!
Cool. I am probably in the minority of this, but I preferred beyond two souls over heavy rain. Both were awesome games/stories in their own way.
I wonder if people prefer the one they played first out of the two. I prefer beyond also.
I preferred Heavy Rain, but Beyond was more refined. My only real regret was that Beyond really set up to have an great sequel which obviously isn't coming. A more horror themed Beyond 2 would have been awesome.
Hell, they could build an entire game based off of the native american lore they threw into the story. That was excellent!
This was a fantastic game I rented it on ps3 and finished it in one night I couldn't stop playing then I picked it up again on ps4
Nice @ 60$ && 30$ /pop that's very lucrative.
Um wasn't this game recently free? 😂
Yes, “free” in May from PlayStation Plus. https://blog.eu.playstation... https://blog.us.playstation... The game has been available for nearly five years now. It’s also available on PlayStation Now.
And game *sales* have nothing to do with free PS+ games so....
That is mightily impressive
Thats awful considering the massive install base of the two.
160 million PlayStation consoles between the two. 2.8 million copies sold between both player bases, was “free” via PlayStation Plus, and is available on PlayStation Now. One in every fifty seven that own a PlayStation 3 or 4 got a copy, assuming no double dipping. Though there’s individuals here stating they bought or got both so one in fifty seven is being generous. The game has also had close to five years on the market.
Do that kind of comparison with any game not gta... same story. All players dont play all games.
How about Call of Duty which moves 10 million+ every year? Assassin’s Creed yearly moves more. A good chunk within the first week. 1.5 million copies of Assassin’s Creed Origins were sold during the launch week. Gears of War 4 moved 3.36 million since it launched. Minecraft moves over 144 million copies across all platforms. Roughly 94 million have been moved since Microsoft purchased Minecraft. Sea of Thieves managed to move over 2 million units in its initial launch. Sales are still moving and the numbers don’t include Game Pass numbers. https://www.pcgamesn.com/se... To put everything into perspective that’d show that less than two percent of PlayStation owners who could play Beyond Two Souls bought in. Again, being generous as individuals even right here have admitted to purchasing copies on both platforms. And as the original poster mentioned, factually, Beyond Two Souls was given away as a PS+ item roughly two months ago. Further the title is available to play on PlayStation Now. Rather people like it or not taking nearly five years to not even cover two percent of the player base isn’t impressive. Particularly when items such as PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus are lumped in.
I'm not sure where you got the impression that most successful games sell like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty. Just ridiculous. You must think Gears of War 4 sales are horrible then between ~30 million or so Xbox One and a lot more Windows 10 gamers out there. " Particularly when items such as PlayStation Now and PlayStation Plus are lumped in. " How the hell are PS Now and Plus relevant at all? Those downloads are not sales. If anything, they take away from potential sales. "Sea of Thieves managed to move over 2 million units in its initial launch. " Did you read the article you linked at all? " though it was never quite clear how the two million players the company cited broke down between Game Pass subscribers and proper sales." Players, not sales. Greenberg clarified that their previous statement that SoT was their "fastest selling new IP" did not include Game Pass. He did not say that about the 2 million players. https://twitter.com/aarongr...
Had you read your own link, pcgames state that they don’t know what the actual sales were. Nobody “moved 2 million units”. Same article links to superdata saying more than half the users were ganepass rentals. I have three PS3’s and one PS4. Only bought Beyond Two Souls once. I guess I single handedly destroyed the attach rate as I didn’t buy the game four times? Fortunately attach rate means nothing in this business as far as developers keeping their lights on. If it did, exclusives wouldn’t exist, and games like Nier Automata https://www.eurogamer.net/a... and Hellblade https://www.eurogamer.net/a... wouldn’t have been able to save their respective studios at milestones even lower than the number you’re unimpressed with.
Why do people keep repeating this nonsense ratio argument when a game reports great sales? No.....it isn't awful. It is pretty damn good.
Because it shows a statistic that less than two percent of the PS3 and PS4 player base combined purchased Beyond Two Souls in almost five years? It effectively shows that on average since launch Beyond Two Souls moved 622,222 units per year. That’s also being generous as that’s rounding to a 4.5 year period on the market when in actuality it’s closer to 4.75. 51,852 units per month. In what realm is that “pretty damn good”? The budget for the game was also $27 million. These numbers are also from AFTER Beyond Two Souls became a free download in May from PlayStation Plus and being added to PlayStation Now in November 2016.
Especially because Beyond Two Souls is a niche game. Comparing it to Call of Duty's sales (like the guy upthread did) is pointless.
Most games don't even reach a million sold and most users don't buy every game available, that is actually true of the vast majority of people who buy consoles. They are extremely picky especially when you have a console like PS4 that has a hell of a lot more games to choose from that its competition. If a game sells over a million copies.....it did pretty damn good. @ameliabaz "Especially because Beyond Two Souls is a niche game. Comparing it to Call of Duty's sales (like the guy upthread did) is pointless. " Agreed. Just idiotic comparisons.
Loved this game
Never understood the hate this game got. I actually thought it was one of the better games I played last gen... but that's only one man's opinion.
Nice. Never played any of their games, but will give heavy rain a go and then move on to this.
Don't forget Detroit Become Human. It's my favourite out of all the Quantic Dream games:
Definitely will. My aim is to buy the collection and play those 2 first then move on to Detroit. I have a few exclusives to catch up on so will be pretty busy.
Great job QD! Can't wait for your next releases <3
