Are you sure it’s going to other platforms? I’m reviewing the game and supposedly Sony has helped them a lot with getting the game out of China. I’ll ask the devs later when I link my review to them.

Well, Lost Soul Aside is being funded by Sony but the devs have confirmed that the game will most likely be a timed exclusive at the moment. So even if Sony helped them to localized it, that still doesn't mean that the game is a permanent exclusive. We'll just have to wait and see.

Also, since you got to play the game, is the game any good, or is it another "style over substance" chinese game?

it's 30 mins past the embargo now, so I can finally talk about it - not played enough for a full review though.

Graphically, the game is a lot better than I was expecting if I'm being honest. The texture quality and the assets are really sharp and clean. The gameplay is very Gears of War. Even the run to cover, throwing animations, cover mechanics, shooting animations etc... all look just like early Gears of War - which isn't a bad thing.

I have an issue with the controls as I've had to remap them due to their choice of buttons. Different countries use the gamepads differently though - I've asked them for an in-game remap option though.

The voice acting is both hilarious and one of it's biggest issues though. Don't wanna get into it too much as I'll be talking a bit about it in the review, but lets just say the actors who don't know much English tend to talk in very broken English as they literally read a miss-translated script and the ones who do speak English well have taken it upon themselves to actually read the lines in the correct way, regardless of what the subtitles say. I've also heard a few Chinese words get spoken a few times as well :) I keep playing just to see what is said next!

The game itself though it alright - it's hard, even putting it on Easy doesn't help as I believe the difficulty slider isn't working (or I'm just really bad it it). But, just like GoW, you have three guns and grenades, all of which have numerous upgrades you can perform on them as well as about six other guns to buy and a skill tree to unlock. You also play as four characters who all play similarly but I guess they have their own personalities.

Not sure how far I am into it, but I'm going to try and finish it tonight so I can get up a fair review of it tomorrow. It's even getting a PSVR patch in a few months - not sure if it's free or not, but the devs are from a VR background I think, so that could be good. At least it will look good :)

I see. And from what I have read from the description, this is what it said:"There are more than 12 types of enemies. Sensations, data, and behavior have been implemented into the game’s AI to give it human-like characteristics. Each enemy has unique attributes and detailed behaviour." Is the AI just as good as it says, or was it all BS?

Just a small snippet from one of the first fights in the game. The compression has screwed up a bit of the quality and the AI is on Easy at this point - but it shows a bit of the game - I'll have more footage in the review.

Also, here's some voice acting if you want : https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Like I said though - it's not that bad once you get into it, it just has it's 'moments'

Rangerman12082524d ago

Looks interesting. So the AI isn't as good as they say? Or the AI still has its moments? So far, the AI doesn't look very...well, dynamic.

Not far enough yet to fully answer that - I got distracted by Train Sim World and Adventure Time!

The enemies do hide around corners and behind cover, they follow you if you run and back off if you get too close, they tent to stay in groups or separate if you throw the grenades (even though they fly like crazy if they are caught in the explosion) and they do all see to have their own 'style'.

The massive machines just move around and bombard you with rockets, the big guys with heavy weapons and lots of armour don't bother hiding as they just come towards you, unless low on health. The small fast ones run at you to try and melee you whilst you're in cover, the spiders come at you in packs so it's harder to take them out, the flying ones do the same thing - only they explode on impact and others.

It's not the worst game I've played and it feels higher quality than a mobile port moved over to console, which is what some of them usually are. It's just the written dialogue, controls and difficulty that annoyed me a little about it. But, I'm only about 3 hours into the game I think :)

Nice. Sounds promising it seems. Hopefully it isn't as bad as those othermediocre/terrible chinese games on the PS4 which tend to suffer the "style over substance" problem, with Icey, Shio and Light Tracer being exceptions. Hoping that this game will be as good as the aforementioned three or atleast just "okay" enough like Ancient Amulator or Salary Man VR (since those two were developed by chinese teams as well). Thanks for the information!

RainOfTerror2524d ago

Yes, VERY sure, their own website says so :)

Coming to PS4, Xbox One, Steam and WeGame (Tencent's new portal).

If the narration of that trailer is any indication of the quality of this game then I would wait for this to come to PS Plus. Whoever did that reading for the trailer was horrible. Seemed like someone who wasn't a naitive English speaker reading an English script but being prompted to stress words in a very unnatural way.

Rangerman12082524d ago

I feel like this is very much common with chinese games on the PS4. Dying Reborn, Hidden Dragon Legend and Unearthing Mars all had laughably bad voice acting. Really makes me just want to play the game with chinese voice acting.
